I Cut My Hair! I'm getting [Dread] Locs! UPDATED - Pg 39!

Hey DISers! Today I thought I'd show you my hair since I did it yesterday. I have a lot of time on my hands, so I thought I'd go ahead and curl (or some say "rod") my hair.

I washed and conditioned it (Since I have colored my hair, I use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to help sustain the color). Then I used Lotta Body setting lotion, and red perm rods...

I sat under the dryer for a little over an hour. It was probably longer because I was playing the Wii :3dglasses
And here are the results....

I really like it, and it'll look even better tomorrow when it falls a bit.

I know you're wondering how long it's gonna last...I don't know. I'm hoping a week, and then maybe some crinkles for a few more days. We'll see... Hopefully I'll keep track, and let you know.

Thanks DISers for requesting updates, even on other threads. Now that I've done MY part, please let me know you were here.....Smooches!

Next: Go to Page 39!

Thanks for popping in! If something really interesting happens during my trip, I WILL do at least a mini-report!

Oh Glenda that is sooooo cute!:thumbsup2

How are you feeling?

Today, I was a bit tired, because I had Physical Therapy today.... OH!!! THE RECEPTIONIST AT THE OFFICE IS A DISER, AND RECOGNIZED ME!
.....but I digress....I can walk up the steps a bit better, but not going down. I REALLY need to practice that! Thank you for asking!

Nope, I had absolutely NOTHING to do, so I did my hair to pass the time. I MIGHT drive myself to the movies tomorrow. We'll see....

Cute! Love the hair all curled up! :goodvibes

Thank you! I'm so grateful for Youtube, for all of the hair tip videos!

Hi, Glenda :wave2: See, I do lurk on this thread! It was good to "see" you on the ABD boards, and your curls look fantastic!

Hey Lurker! Thanks for posting...Glad you like my new "do"!

Good Morning DISers! Just wanted to let you know that my hair now, is just a bit crinkly. However, I do like to rinse my hair through everyday, so that's made it fall faster. So looks like this will be a style for "special" events, since it doesn't lasts long.

Happy Friday!

Glenda,

Just stumbled across this thread, and when I finished flipping through it I realized I have a big smile on my face. Your smile is completely contagious! :goodvibes

Love the journey you're taking -- you're a brave and beautiful woman! Good stuff.

Someday when I get tired of this hairstyle, I'll probably cut it really short again!

Hello.. I just read every page of this thread and WOW!! It looks amazing (I especially like it curled and when you had it spike-y) Thank you for documenting this, as it's not always easy for those who aren't familiar with textured hair to come out and ask questions. I went to cosmetology school, and as sad as it is, black students were given black clients, and white students were given white clients. Although I know the school/instructors thought they were doing the right thing by giving students what they thought they'd be familiar with, I wanted to learn natural hair styling so darn bad!! And of course I didn't have the confidence to go ask my questions. So thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You look simply gorgeous by the way. You're one of those women that can pull off any hairstyle and still look great! :flower3:

Thank you! So glad you read through my thread.

It's interesting that they didnt cross-train students in your cosmetology school. Seems like they would want the students to graduate with a full knowledge of styling different kinds of hair. I think "going natural" for Black women is going to increase. So if you have a chance, you should find a class. There are ALOT of videos on youtube of women cutting their permed hair down to their natural hair -The Big Chop. Check it out....

Thanks again for reading and responding. If you have any questions (or even some hair tips), please let me know! :cutie:

I just found this thread and what an awesome journey you have been on. As a hairstylist, I understand the ups and downs of going through the grow out, but you have come out on the other side with a smile. I would love to see more update pics as the time passes by!

Thank you for checking out my thread! It's been 2years and 4months. Now my hair can ALMOST go into a ponytail. Hopefully I'll be able to do so by summer.

I'll try soon to take some update pics!

Thanks again! :cutie:

Hey everybody! I've popped on The DIS looking for car rental and flight codes for September, so I thought I'd drop by my thread!

My hair is almost to my shoulders, and it's still a reddish-brown. I still love it, and people still ask me who does my hair, and are shocked to know I do it myself. This weekend I'm doing my hair, so I'll post some update photos!

I am glad to report that before my Mother (Gmax Mom) died in February, that she did indeed like my hair! Thanks again to all of the DISers who met her, and made her a DISconvert!

Thanks for reading along!

-Gmax

I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I hope that you are finding comfort in your fond memories of her (and the fact that she finally liked your hair style.)

I can't wait to see your new pictures!
