I couldn't take the pressure (USAIR related)

I went ahead and booked on Spirit. If USAIR doesn't shut down during my trip-- I'll lose some money, but I'll have peace of mind. I couldn't stand the suspense, especially since their critical time-frame and loan expiration are exactly during the days I'll be flying.
Now, since I've booked on USAIR and will not be flying with them (IF they are even flying by the 15th), do I need to notify them or anything? Or do I just not show up and that's it?

I would notify them. That way if they do pull out of this or are taken over by another airline, you maybe able to get some value of out the tickets for a future flight.

I am a nut case about this. Flying out on the 22nd and feel like an idiot for booking USAir. Bought the tickets from Hotwire, and am now just waiting. Hotwire assured me that USAir would honor the tickets.

Safetymom, you stated in another post that there should be a clear idea by the 6th. Is that still the current info?

Yes it is the forum under miles and points. I know it doesn't calm fears but at least the information is there for all of us to use. It will help everyone to decide whether they should US or not.

I understand your panic. We've had troubles all 3 times we've gone to Disney with our flights...it's not fun. The first year, TWA went under. I thought I'd go nuts. Then NWA cut back their flights out of our cities the next time (not to mention POFQ closed) and last summer ATA pulled out of our city 10 days before we flew. It causes too much stress that's for sure.

You're not alone. We panicked too and bought a second set of tickets for our Jan. 20th trip. I couldn't risk having to pay the less-than-7-day fares if UsAirways liquidated on the 16th. It killed me to pony up the extra money this month especially because 2 of our 4 tickets were Dividend Miles tickets. Now we're stuck mooing in the cattle call (a fate we're all likely to suffer as all of the other carriers fall from the sky) but at least the tickets are still cheap while there is still some semblance of competition.
I will say that the SW 'return' policy is fabulous. If the tickets were purchased online and you don't show-up (no notification is required per their customer service center), the value of the tickets is put into a credit account to be used within 1 year towards the purchase of another ticket.
In the end, we might score a second trip - 'cause we'd just have to use up the credit...

We are flying out of Milwaukee on US AIR this Friday morning and returning on the 16th. Do you all think we will be ok??? This is freaking me out!

No way to know at this point. There is a meeting in the bankruptcy proceedings tomorrow. If and when they would decide to close it probably would be with no notice.
