I could use some advise, please.

I am so new to this, I do not even have a member account yet. We jsut passed ROFR Friday on our first contract. I could use some advise as to how to book our first DVC stay.

We bought a small contract, but our first stay will not be typical. We need a VWL 2-br. I plan to purchase transfer points @ $10/point to avoid borrowing all our future points.

Our stay will include 3 wk-end nights. Borrowing points @ $10/point is less than rack rate, but more than the 25% discount. I intend to book the week nights right at the 11 month window. But I am confused as to what we should do about the wk-end nights.

Should I book them with points at 11 months and then switch them to a discount if they become available? Can you even cancel DVC ressies? I could go ahead and purchase the total points needed to cover the wk-end nights and then save our points if I get the discount.

I don't know what I don't know. Please provide me with some guidance as to what would be the best way to do this.

I wouldn't use so many of my points if I were you on three weekend nights.

Cut out one of the weekend nights and stay someplace else on the day you arrive. It sounds like that would be a Saturday so you could then go and check in for your week on Sunday morning. Then I would borrow points to cover the next seven nights if necessary. Borrowing points is not like borrowing money. Disney is allowing you to use next year's points at no cost. It's a great deal. Even if you end up borrowing every year, what's the difference? ANSWER: Instead of running out of points in 2042, you run out in 2041.

Then if you do decide to take another trip and you are out of points, rent them then, but don't do it while you have points that can be borrowed.

BTW, you can cancel DVC reservations but if you do it inside 30 days, your points go into a holding account which makes using them that much more difficult.
