Hi all!

I am new to this DVC points renting world, and could use some help. In your opinion, can a studio or 1 bedroom size villa comfortably fit 4 adults and a 3 year old? Will there be enough privacy for all of us? We do not all want to sleep in the same room. Thanks!

Based on what you just posted I would say no. You are better off getting a 2 bedroom or 2 studios.

Are you sure? When I look at the room layouts of the 1 bedrooms, they are in separate rooms. Is that not true?

If you are uncomfortable all sleeping in the same room, then do not get a studio. Studios are very much like a standard hotel room. Most have a queen bed and a full size sleeper sofa. OKW has 2 queen beds.

A one bedroom will give you a king bed in the master suite, and a queen sofa sleeper in the living room, some one bedrooms will also have a single size sleep chair (OKW, BLT and AKV, except value AKV units). If you really want some privacy, go with 2 studios or a two bedroom unit. Otherwise a one bedroom will probably do fine.

Yeah, I can't decide if we should just get two separate value rooms, or if I could get a good deal on a 1 bedroom. It would just be my parents with us, but I want us to have a separate bedroom which is sounds like there is. I am thinking we should just do a value :-/

For most, but not all resorts, the studios cost exactly half of a one bedroom point wise. So two studios would be about the same as a one bedroom in cost. The one bedrooms have the full kitchen and a washer dryer in the room, so that could be an advantage, especially with a young child.

Actually, a studio isn't an option because the child is age 3. The occupancy limit for a studio is 4, plus one child under age 3 who can fit in a pack n play.

I think you'd be ok in a 1 BR, but I would book one with the sleeper chair in the living room: OKW, BLT, or AKV.

If you are going with a studio OKW offers 2 bed, unless someone wants to sleep on a sofa sleeper.
Your little one would love AKL!

Studio: No.
1BR: Not for me---I actively resent sharing a room with my kids--- but others might not mind.

Even in a 2BR, it's a little awkward, because either the 3yo gets the pull-out (taking out your "living space" for naps/early bedtime), or some pair of adults gets stuck with it. The other possible alternative for a 2BR is the grandparents in the master, and Mom, Dad, and the kiddo in the 2nd BR, but then you don't get the king (and the privacy.)

I do not resent sleeping in the same room as our daughter, I want her in our room...I just don't want to resent my parents, ha!

I would not go with the one bedroom. Could you really put your parents on a pull out couch in the living room? I know I could not do that. If you are willing to give them the master and sleep on the pull out yourself, I guess it could work.

It would be nice to have the full kitchen and washer and drier in the villa, but 2 studios would at least give you all some privacy. Each couple would have their own bathroom.

If you can swing a two bedroom that would be ideal. That is what we are doing for the four of us this fall.

Good luck and have a great vacation.

The one bedroom's I am looking at say it is a queen bed, are they not comfortable? My parents trip is being paid for by us as they do not have the money, and they are used to doing anything to save money while traveling, so a pull out bed would be a luxury compared to some places they have stayed. We will look into two studios, though...I find learning about renting DVC points a little confusing, however.

A 1 BR at OKW is quite large and will have the queen sofa bed in the living room area with a sleeper chair that is about the size of a twin bed also. The is only one bathroom. At AKV Kidani and BLT you would have the same type of sleeping facilities but would have two bathrooms. I imagine that depending on what time of year you are looking at you can rent points for a reservation for a studio for about the same as a value room - maybe less and may even find you could do a two bedroom at OKW for about the same as two value rooms when you figure in the room taxes you pay for the value that you don't have to pay for DVC if you rent from a member.

The sofa bed are to me as an adult not an option for sleeping. However if you are going to put an adult on one, I would recommend getting a one bedroom with a sleeper chair.

Two adults trying to sleep on a sleeper sofa are going to be really uncomfortable. Also you will only have one bathroom at some locations.

If you are not going to get a two bedroom villa I would get two studios.

Please know that renting can save money but it is not like booking a hotel room with Disney. You will not have daily housekeeping. Also the DVC member you book with, most likely will require all payment in advance and also no cancellation. Just make sure you understand the conditions.

The master bedroom has a king sized bed. The living room has a queen sized sleeper sofa. And they aren't that comfortable. Used to be, but not any more.

A studio will have either two queen beds (OKW only) or one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa (everything else at WDW). But you would need two studios because you are a party of five, not four.

This is probably the way I would go too. You can't be sure the studios will be near one another, but in this case, that's probably not the end of the world, as both rooms would have adults in them.

Given the information you provided, I'd say a 1 bedroom at AKV-Kidani would be a good fit for you. That way you could have a master with a king bed, Jacuzzi, in room laundry, full kitchen AND a sleep chair and pull out queen sized sofa in the living room. The good thing about Kidani is that there will be an extra bathroom for those staying in the living room.

As an adult, whether or not I'm used to luxury, I would not want to sleep on one of those sleeper sofas. I also agree that I'd either get a 2 bedroom or 2 studios.

comfortably - privacy
When I vacation these are the 2 most important factors in the size of accomodations I request, everyone is entitled to both of these, no matter child, adult, friend, relative, Parent, In-Law, Cousin etc.

I would book a 2 bedroom, but if you feel your in-laws/parents would not mind sleeping on the pull out couch, then a 1 bedroom would be fine. Even better, those at OKW have the sleeper chair which could accomodate the 3 year old as well. 3rd option, 2 studios!

For me, the days of all cramming into a room ended after I graduated college and stopped going to Spring Break!

I noticed some OP mentions of "Value" room category. There are only a few value category rooms. They are in Jambo only (converted smaller hotel rooms). They are 3 feet shorter in the living room/area. The value 1BR's do not have room for the sleeper chair so they have a strict occupancy limit of 4. The view from a Value can be parking lot, pool or savannah. No view requests can be entered in the system for value rooms.
