Hi all,
I'm still a newbie here, and today was my first legitimate day to start eating right and exercising. I read the post about running, would love to do it, but not yet. Running from the parking lot in the pouring rain into my work leaves me a bit winded, so running will have to wait.
So my fear...... being in public wearing a bathing suit.
My daughter swims all the time and wants me to swim with her and I was always nervous of staring people. I mean really, if you don't look like a swimsuit model , which most people don't, then it should still be ok to wear what you want. I live by the ocean and haven't been to the beach in years. My daughter goes with her aunt or I go, but wear clothes.
Not today. I went swimming at the ymca and loved it. And my daughter was so happy to be swimming with me. True , I kept my shorts on with my suit and I had to use a kickboard and flippers to get moving but I swam for almost an hour.
So if you're holding back like I was because I was afraid of what people would think of me, then don't. It's an incredibly freeing and fullfilling feeling.
Good luck to you all!

Way to go twotoohappy! The first time you do something like that is always the hardest and you conquered your fear!! You should be so proud of yourself!! And by the way welcome to WISH!! :bounce:

Way to go, twotoohappy! That's awesome! I know I'm the same way in a bathing suit, but sometimes I just say to myself "I want to have fun, who cares if people look at me!" and go for it. Good for you! :)

Welcome to WISH!

I went through this a few years ago when I was running. The first year I trained for the marathon, I wore shorts when it was warm and big, baggy, hot running pants when it was cold. I was afraid to wear those spandex running pants that cling to every line of your body. I didn't want anyone to see me running in those revealing things.

The second year I trained for the marathon, I finally broke down and bought some spandex running pants because I came to the revelation that everyone ELSE had to look at me in them, not me! I'd be running through neighborhoods in anonimity. No one really knew who I was. No one would stop me in the middle of my 15 mile run to say, "Hey, those tight pants look stupid on you!". Who would do that? It was so liberating! And those pants? They were so comfortable and lightweight and great to run in. The smartest thing I ever did that season!

You can do it! Who's gonna really say anything to you in a swim suit? And who cares what they think anyway! Get in that pool and get some exercise. And better yet, get in that quality time with your DD. I have very fond memories of swimming with my Dad when I was just a peewee.

I'm so proud of you! Overcoming a fear like this is a sign of tremendous determination. I hope you are feeling proud of yourself!

I think this is wonderful. You should be very proud of yourself. I know I am very proud of you. :D

Congratulations! Way to go on overcoming that major obstacle. You are definately on your way to changing your life so that you will always feel confident to do the things you want to do!

Congratulations on overcoming that obstacle. I feel exactly how you felt. I won't go swimming. I would really like to go with my DH and my 2 DD's but I just can't bring myself to go out in public wearing a bathing suit. However the first 2 weeks of Dec. we will be at WDW so I am going to take a bathing suit with me and my goal is to go swimming there. That is if the weather is warm enough, and seeing as I am from the UK it won't have to be really warm in Florida, to be warmer than here!! :D

Thanks for all the great support around here! I'll be in WDW the 5th thru the 13th if anyone wants to meet up.
Have a magical day and heck ya I'm proud of myself and of everyone here trying to make their lives healthier too! Have a happy one!!!
