I just e-filed my taxes and will have them back in 10 days!! :cheer2:

Now for the serious question. I am an A-1 chicken when it comes to the great outdoors. Will I absolutely hate camping for 3 days if we choose a tent?

On the bright side, it is $300 cheaper than in a hotel, but if I am going to be miserable is saving the money worth giving up the nice, warm and might I add covered and bug free hotel?

I will be paying for my vacation as soon as Uncle Sam gives me back my money, so all help is appreciated.

Thanks

It depends on a lot of things: what time of year are you going? Have you ever camped at all? How much time will you be spending in the tent vs. time in the parks, etc? It also depends a lot on your tolerance level and your expectations from this trip.

what time of year are you going? we are going in Late August

Have you ever camped at all? Spent 3 days at Webelos Camp last year and I survived that

How much time will you be spending in the tent vs. time in the parks, etc? I figure to spend a lot of time at the parks, not so much time at the campsite

I could tolerate most anything, so long as I can zip the tent shut, as opposed to the open ended tents they have at Scout camp.

I don't want to discourage you. We love camping, but camp in a fifth-wheel trailer. As a Florida resident, I feel I must tell you that there are bugs, lots and lots of bugs - mosquitoes, in late August. Other creepy-crawlers are out in late summer too.

Do you have someone you can borrow a tent and go somewhere close for an overnight? This may help decide. With a tent, you also need mattresses of some sort, linen or sleeping bags, pillows, ice chest, chairs, lantern, etc.

I personally would not tent camp in August in Florida. Have been to Disney many times in August. The humidity...can be overwhelming...if you aren't used to it...and the thought of not getting a break from it..by either hotel..or Travel Trailer/Motor Home...not for me. There are also the afternoon downpours to consider. We always welcomed them, as they cooled things off, but know don't how much I'd appreciate them if I were tent camping..and things got a bit flooded.

I wouldn't tent camp in August in Florida :sad2: We went this year in August and besides Hurricane Charlie comming thru, it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hot and no air conditioning in a tent, talk about bad hair day! Never mind the being a chicken thing (which I totally am too) Besides do you really want to treck to go to the potty in the middle of the night! I say splurge on yourself and get the hotel room for the extra 3 big ones!!! Anyway whatever you decide have a blast ;)

I couldn't help but the recall the first time we took the kids to WDW ... they were 3 & 4. It was SOOOOOOO hot and humid that I recall we had sweat running down our faces at the least exertion.

I would say try for one of the hotel rooms at the Value Resorts. I may be wrong, but I think late in August is a down-time for the parks so you should be able to get a code to bring the cost down somewhat.

Good luck ... but I agree with others, that you will want the A/C for the evenings!!!
