LOS ANGELES -- Police suspect a father set a vehicle ablaze in Los Angeles with his two children inside.

Firefighters discovered the bodies of the children after extinguishing the burning sport utility vehicle in a downtown alley Sunday.

The 54-year-old man was found nearby with severe burns on his face, hands and legs. He is hospitalized in critical condition and police are questioning him.

"There were two individuals that were placed in a car -- two kids -- and the car was set on fire," police Sgt. Lee Sands said. "We believe the person responsible for this crime is the children's father."

I am not one to curse, but just what the HELL is wrong with so-called
parents that keep killing their children??
I have read report after report after report since only the beginning
of this year, of mothers killing their children, fathers killing their children,
and oh yeah, then THEY chicken out of killing themselves!
There's no place in the real Hell hot enough for them, IMO.

I really have nothing more to say, I just can't take it anymore - really.

JUST IN SHOCK after reading this.

HORRIBLE. SAD. DEVASTATING. And yes, OP, what the HELL is going on! :sad2:

The family that has lost those precious   here is
:grouphug:

To the FATHER: :furious: well I would rather not say :furious:

OMG...I really don't know what to say :sad2:

So sad, depressing, and cruel

Absolutely disgusting. The man must not have a soul at all. They should withold his pain medication for his own burns so he can feel just a little of the horrible pain his children must have felt.

This is one of those horrible news stories that shock. There just can't be any excuse for taking the lives of children, your own or anyone else's (have you followed the heartbreaking kidnapping and murder of 17-month-old Tommaso Onofri in Italy)?
Even so, the first news shows that there is more to the story. Why was the father burned so badly? Was he burned because the car exploded when he set fire to it? Or did he first set fire to the car, and then try to get his children out? What in fact happened?
No matter what happened, my prayers are with the mother and others who are grieving as a result of from this senseless act.

Update: L.A. Police will be charging the father soon,
apparently his condition in the hospital has something
to do with the timing of the arrest.
They said he was sitting in the front passenger seat
after he torched the van, but got out.
His children were so badly burned they are having
trouble identifying them 'officially.'
Oh, and he was under some "stress" from a recent
separation from his wife & a gambling debt.
Sorry, no excuse is good enough, and no punishment is harsh enough, IMO.

Statistically I believe children are more likely to be murdered at the hands of a parent than anyone else.

That doesn't make it any less sad. It is a sad world sometimes. More than sometimes, in fact. I've stopped watching the news lately. Just been burying myself in American Idol, Lost, my Ben Franklin biography, and my family. Oh, and the Dis. My "la la land" - it's a happier place.

Yep, I believe you are correct.
I just can't get over the number & frequency that these horrible
crimes against children have been occurring.

I agree with you about the DIS...

That is absolutely true and it also applies to sexual and/or physical abuse. AND abduction. The same applies to being murdered as an adult, statistically, it is most likely at the hands of a spouse or SO. The stats are overwhelmingly stacked highly towards a family member or loved one being the perpetrator. That is why the police always first focus on those who live in the home.

People are always afraid of stranger danger...but the real monsters who hurt children, spouses etc...are usually people we invite into our lives, unfortunately. No one wants to believe that is possible until it is too late and the monster reveals him/herself.

So, when you see kids killed by their loved ones, the reason it happens that way is because the odds of kids being murdered is slim to begin with. But the odds are even more slim that anyone else would have the opportunity or even the motivation to hurt them.

It is horrific and sad. :sad2:

Its true, kids are more likely to be harmed at the hands of their parents than someone else. And the number of kids is alarming. I didn't realize it was so bad until I started working at the children's hospital. I was amazed at the number of kids that come through the doors because of abuse or neglect at the hands of their parents. Thats why at the end of the day I come to the DIS to get away from it.
