It is killing me to not have a trip planned. I have been looking at rates, packages, air, but can't bring myself to book anything because I am trying to pay off our credit card bills. (We went a little crazy at Christmas  ) As well, there are home upgrades I want (not necessities, I would not sacrifice comfort or safety for a vacation) but new flooring, nicer windows, new master suite....

As well, my husband starts a new job Monday and he is not really clear on when he will be able to use vacation days. (Why oh why don't men ask the important questions in an interview? ;) )

Now it has only been 10 months since DD and I went solo, and I don't really feel fair thinking of booking a trip again when DH can't go, but I am this close to booking a trip for DD April break.

Realistically, I want to book a trip for no later than April '06. Do you think I should make a ressie for room only now and use the next 12 months to get the air/car/food worked out? I would only have to pay the one night deposit and can back out if things are too tight financially at a later point. I am pretty sure DH would have vacation time accumulated by then and would be past the 1 year mark to be able to use it (IF the new employer has such restrictions, I assume this would be worst case restriction)

Tickets? We have 2 days remaining on a child PH and adult PH, I am thinking of updating child PH to adult (she was 9 when bought, will be 11 in April) and having DD use the remaining days on the adult PH as well. MYW 10 day no expiry for DH and I. 4 days in the parks is about all we usually do anyway, worst case if we need additional days for DD, we would buy a MYW no expiry mid trip.

Wanted this next trip to be a bit of a splurge - would you book moderate, hope for a great code to update to deluxe if the money works out, and know you can downgrade if need be? My goal is to secure accommodations at a reasonable price before reservations start becoming scarce. Past trips have been
1) offsite with parents, no say in planning, no care about cost
2) honeymoon, booked through TA, never again....OK trip, just never with a TA again
3) Last minute trip, Fall Fantasy I think, at the CR, great great rate (like $140 garden view, breakfasts included, even character meals, can you say Chef Mickey's Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday. OK you get the point)
4) Offsite DD and I, budget trip 4 days, great bonding

I have never started planning so far out before, I thought it would be easier. I am the resident Disney expert at home and work, so it is really hard to fess up that I have no idea where to start on this one!

I would book the room now (they may not be able to give you a 2006 room rate but they will still take a 1-night deposit based on this year's rate). In a perfect world, I would book the deluxe and hope for a code but you don't want to be stuck with no room if codes don't come out or if they don't reduce the room enough, so book the moderate and hope for the best.

Keep in mind that Easter will be April 16th in 2006. That means that there will be huge crowds from 4/9/2006 thru 4/23/2006. Chances are good that peak season rates will run thru those dates (unlike this year when peak season ends on 4/16). So, expect outrageous rack rates for that room.

If you decide to buy your DD that MYW no-expiry ticket mid-trip, you're going to pay the gate prices. It goes against my bargain-hunting mentality to pay face-value for anything. I would recommend another plan. Let your DD use the remaining days on the child's ticket (upgrade it to an adult ticket for free) and you use the remaining days on the adult ticket. You both will need 2 additional days for the April '06 trip. Buy 7-day MYW Hoppers (non-expiry) from a ticketbroker for yourself and DD. Buy a 10-day MYW Hopper (non-expiry) for your DH. At the end of the trip, your DH will have 6 remaining days, you and your DD will have 5 each. This way, each of you would have tickets for that next trip. If you feel that there might be another mother-daughter trip in the future, buy each of you 10-day MYM Hoppers (non-expiry) and have 8 days remaining for you and DD to use on the next two trips.
