I recently got a new computer (lots of power... woo hoo! :teeth: ) but now I want to transfer over all my old e-mails. On my old computer I was running Outlook Express 5, and now Outlook Express 6 on the new one. The problem is that I have no idea where my e-mails are stored so that I can grab the files and transfer them over to the new computer. (And even after I find them I'm not exactly sure what to do with them, but I guess then I find the file where the e-mails are stored on the new computer and just transfer them in there?) I tried doing searches for outlook express folders, but it just couldn't find where any of the e-mails are stored.

So how do I go about finding my (invisible) e-mails and getting them over to my new computer???? Anyone have any clue where they are hiding? Thanks!!! :)

If I'm not mistaken (and I may be), they'll be stored in a .pst file. I *think* what you need to do is copy that .pst file from your old machine to your new one. Then I *think* you want to do file/import and "import" your .pst

I haven't actually done this, but that's a guess pieced together from what information I *do* know.

Good luck! :)

YOu will also find the files in an Outlook Express folder, with dbx as the extension. You could just search for dbx files.

From OE HELP......
To compact and back up e-mail folders

Select an e-mail folder.
On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Compact.
To back up the folder, find the folder file, and then copy it to a backup folder, floppy disk, or network drive. Outlook Express e-mail folders have a .dbx extension (for example, "Sent Items.dbx").
Notes

Some message files might be too large to back up onto a floppy disk.
If you are using a program other than Outlook Express to send e-mail messages to newsgroups, check your e-mail program's documentation for information about compacting and deleting e-mail folders.

dan's got it, .pst files are for regular outlook, outlook express does it different

Thanks! Dan, that sounds great... I'll have to hook the two computers back together again and try that out. Thanks again! :)

Not yet Beanie. ;) LOL! :p (I'd have to stop chatting with you to try it right now, so that doesn't seem like a very good plan ;) )
