I'm not really a dress person - I don't have the body type. So I don't know what to wear! DH will be in the tux - since we have to rent one for formal night he may as well get 2 nights out of it - so I can't go to casual. Any suggestions?

We were just at Dillard's yesterday and they have lots of pretty skirts and blouses that looked dressier...
you may try Casual corner as well, they have skirts and jackets (like a suit)
that were very pretty. They also had a very nice black and white flower dress at Petite Sophisticate Annex (if there is one near you?) that would be perfect with a tux.

If there are not these stores near you, try a black short skirt with a black jacket that stops at the waist, put a silk white blouse under it and it will look very nice and you can mix/match it with black slacks and other things as well.

I am looking for a dress or outfit for a wedding and my husband will be in a tux, so I understand your dilema.

good luck.

I love Chico's (if there's not a store near you try the web at chicos.com. They have lots of great clothes that I love for cruises. Their Traveler's line is a slinky (but substantial) knit, (mostly in black with elastic waist) that has many coordinating pieces that can be dressed up or down. I pack a couple of bottoms, along with several tops for dinners. Packs well, and their jewelry line adds a lot of punch. It can be a little pricey (there's an outlet store near me), but the styles are pretty timeless, and I've never had a piece fade, tear, or wear out. Good luck!

For DS's wedding a few years ago, I wore a very feminine blue "tuxedo suit". It had a long jacket, a vest with a satin "shirt front" in it, and blue pants. It was spectacular (and comfortable!). I bought it on the clearance rack at one of the big department stores (Lord & Taylor or Saks?). Don't think that formal necessarily means a dress!

Thanks! The clothes look awesome but are a little out of my price range. :)

Ah bless you! I was thinking I might do pants......

Check JC Pennys, Sears and a Dress Barn if you have one near you.

They all have great dressy pants options. Defintely dressy enough..like something you would wear on new years eve. Also..don't forget your local consignment shops for this type clothing.

Also...the clearance racks of the finer department stores in your area...a great place to pick up cruise formal wear.

I agree about checking out JC Penney. I was just there browsing the other day and they have some nice stuff. If you do go with a dress, you can't go wrong with a simple black dress, and they had tons of those there.
Also, they had a lot of nice pant suits if you want to lean more toward that direction.
Good luck, I know how hard it can be!

I know that Chadwicks (www.chadwicks.com) (look in the bridal section under special occassion) has both pants suits and dresses and their prices are reasonable, you can even check the clearance section!

They had this in there for $130.00

This one is $50.00

Hope you find something

Hi Guys and Gals! Well after much internet browsing today I think I found the outfit I'm going to wear for semi-formal night. Check it out:

CHADWICKS

Thanks for all your help - plus I'm saving 25% on the price. And I've got shoes that will go perfect with the dress that I was planning on packing anyway!

My semi-formal is going to be about the same except a longer skirt and smaller print pink flower. Good choice!

very pretty- chadwicks has some nice things at reasonable prices :flower:

I like that alot....very cute. I'm sure you will look great in it! Thanks for giving us the update!

Great choice but for anyone else checking out the thread, I wore black jersey slacks and a glittery sweater set with dressy sandals for both formal and semiformal nights. I do mean glittery on the sweater...I had to pack it in a plastic bag to keep from getting gold glitter all over everything! :rotfl: But it was comfortable and looked great. I am also one of those body types (or is that lazy types) that doesn't do dresses very often.

I am a short "apple shaped" person. Someone on this board suggested I wear "whatever makes me feel beautiful" on formal night.

I found a long, loose, flowing sleeveless dress with a sheer matching blouse over the top. It was in shades of blue and aqua. Since it was not form-fitting I did feel beautiful, not like the overstuffed sausage I tend to feel like in the skin tight formal dresses that are currently popular.

I had a magical evening and hope you have the same. :wizard:
