I have a meeting that will be at the Wyndham in DD. I cant decide between The Wyndham or SSR or other DVC resort.

Do the Wyndham guest get the free parking that WDW resort guest have?

Do you get a Key to The World with charging on it at the Wyndham?

What I can't decide is the convenience of being at the meeting site or the convenience of being onsite for the park reasons.

Not to mention that I have not stayed in a regular hotel room in quite sometime.

If you want the free parking and charging priviledges on your room key, you'll need to stay on Disney property and at a Disney resort. While the Wyndham in DD is technically on Disney property, it is not a Disney resort, so none of the on-site benefits. It is nevertheless, a very nice hotel.

In your shoes I'd be tempted to use a few points to check out SSR, if only for the pool after the conference, and to use the amenities we are all used to staying on-site. Yeah, there might be some construction going on (which the little boy inside me thinks is really cool), but the staff are apparently under-utilized at the moment, so service should be great.

If you conference acommodations are being paid for by your job, they might insist that you stay at that hotel. If you are on your own for costs, then I would definately stay DVC! Either SSR or OKW would be fairly convenient for you, and you would then have the advantage of on-site parking and key charging. I would probably be reluctant to use points if I was giving up having an employer pay for acommodations. I wouldn't want to waste points on the job!:p

THanks for the replys. I think I will stay on site. I was under the impression that DD guest recieved on site perks. I guess I would feel like I am always next door to the magic and not in it, if I were to stay at the Wyndham.

I do get reimb. for up to the price that the Wyndham is charging this event. I think it might be worth some extra money to stay maybe at GF or Poly concierge.:smooth:

I won't use any points since I am going to get some money.

I do this all the time. It is a great way to experience many of the great WDW resorts. My employer will also pay up to whatever the sponsor resort's room rate is. Most times I am able to get a even cheaper rate staying at one of the WDW resorts with an AP discount, then the cost of a room at the hotel where the seminar is being held! My employer does not care where I stay as long as I'm at the seminar when I am supposed to be and I pass the examination upon the seminar's completion! So of course, I ALWAYS choose to stay at a WDW resort! LOL!
I never use pts when I am attending the seminar, I always book at many different WDW resorts and let my employer foot the bill. When the seminar is over, if I am staying for additional r&r days, I then move to a DVC resort and use pts.
I always have a car (also thanks to my employer) so the drive to the seminar is a breeze, no matter which area of WDW you are staying in. Conferences/seminars, etc held at DTD are really a snap, but I have had seminars near Universal/Seaworld, in Orlando, etc and they are also very easy to reach from WDW resorts. WDW is very conveniently located to many areas of Central FL and all major access roads. Walt's momma didn't raise no fool! LOL!!
Good luck!

The Wyndham Palace Resort & Spa looks real nice. I have their brochure right here in front of me. All guests have concierge service, all rooms have mini-bars,nearly all have patios or balconies.. They have their own transportation service to parks. They have a pool bar and a piano bar. They have a lap pool with a current to swim against. This is a real class place. 24 hour room service. They are right across the street from DD, just as close as the Hilton. They have suites if you wanted to upgrade.

Pa,
I agree that the Wyndham Palace Resort is a beautiful resort with top shelf amenities, but if someone (as the OP indicated) also wants to combine the WDW experience with a business trip--it is very often that a WDW resort room rate will be the same if not lower than that at the hotel in which the conference/seminar/convention is held.
I have found that the 'special/discounted rate" that the hotels offer to convention/seminar attendees is really a joke. Since most employers pay up to the rate of the sponsor hotel's rate-- it is very often possible to find a WDW resort room w/discount that is less or equal to the sponsor hotel rate. This includes all moderate WDW resorts and most times all WDW deluxe resorts.
