While my family and I where at a birthday party today we overheard a couple telling the family next to us that Disney was "too much for children that age." The children looked to be around 6 years old and two years old. WHAT???

Moved this over to themeparks community..

Too much .. what exactly?

The "right age" for bringing children to Disney is really a matter of personal opinion. Disney is overwhelming for kids that age, so I can understand that they don't think it's for them. Every family's different.

IMO perhaps they are just jealous or bitter they cannot go so to make themselves feel better they downplay disney. I once told my friend who is only going to MK for the day that I was so excited because I got the ADR I wanted at ohana's breakfast(we are going for a week) and her reply was " We are not going to waste our money when we can see the characters in the park and save ourselves from having to eat crappy food" OUCH ... it hurt

I agree with you; when our 5 year old found out that we where going to Disney in June she told her friends at daycare and they said "well my parents told us that Disney is stupid and all just pretend". They are a tad older than our daughter but needless to say she was very upset....and they told her that characters are not real...that was hard for us to explain because she is still at the age where everything is oh so magical at Disney and we would like to keep it that was......you have to do what is right for you and your family.

Maybe the thought of them going with 2 children is too much for them and blaming it on their kids is away of getting around going.

Disney is the ideal vacation for me because I could never go to the beach for the week and just sit there. I would go NUTS!!!! I need to keep moving at all times. I like getting up at 7:30 a.m. and going until 9:00 p.m. sleeping and then doing it all over again the next day.

You sound a little like me. We have gone to an all inclusive a couple of years in a row for 1 week. By the end I cannot wait to get home...too bored (don't drink either). Now it's a different story with Disney, would love 3 weeks but my family would be too tired....LOL

That is so sad....

I kind of get the "too much" for kids that age. Sometimes it is to much for a kid my age! I really did feel that way at one point getting dumped into a gift shop everytime you turn around and I think it must be super stimulating for some but the trade off .... Oh my .. it really is a happy place for this family!
So much joy!

Funny we are real easy to please and get our fun out of taking a family walk at the beach or on a path so we are real low key/low budget 95% of the time and then there is Disney!

I met this on person who goes to disney a lot and he had a picture of him on indy speedway in tommoroland and he had to present it to a class and he said here I am in a random go cart somewhere and i knew where he was and i did not even come. His parents liked it more than he did and i was so surprized. Someone said to him your so lucky you get to go to disney world and he said so, its not that great and I was like WHAT! He was about ten years old:confused: :confused3

Im kind of overeacting but i LOVE disney world:worship:who doesent (besides him)

My DSIL is waiting until 2010 to take my niece and nephew (we're going too, of course) because they will be 4 and 6. My mom (whom I blame for my Disney addiction) took me to DL when I was 2 (and several more times after) and she said I behaved and had fun. Don't remember that trip though! :rotfl:
Kids nowadays just don't appreciate anything. Several of our friends and neighbors are also Disney nuts and we all take flak from the "non-believers":confused3 For some of the non-believers, I think it's the cost of going to Disney that deters them so they make out to be haters when really they are envious of those who can and do.

I think it depends on the parents and how they handles themselves in the parks and how they plan out their day. We are about to go with my nephews and their family to Disneyland and their parents want them to take two naps a day and be in bed by 7pm (this means no fireworks!! I don't know if I can stand for that!). And they only wanted to do two days because they also think this is "too much." I think it will be worse for us to try and see everything in this little amount of time on their first trip than if we had more days and could go slower and see more. I think sometimes the parents are the ones who are overwhelmed
