I can't believe this!!!!

sorry to hear of the trouble, like you said they do seem genuine but it is not your fault the money has been taken back. they may have not got the money back as whoevers card they used it would of been refunded to.
usually what happens is the money is refunded to a persons paypal accout and they dont even know, sometimes it takes ages for paypal to refund as they like to get the interest.
it'll be interesting to see how paypal deals with this because when someone makes a complaint paypal stop the money, they paid being withdrawn- how can this happen if you dont have it?!
the best way to deal with it is through paypal, dont have any other communication. keep things simple and documented.
in your ebay account the item should show now show as not being paid.
i would go ahead and start the unpaid item process.
i do feel sorry for them as like you said they do seem genuine, but in the end you are the one who has lost out and its best to get these thing dealt with asap.

This all makes me wonder whether I should go back to accepting cheques and postal orders again. It is a hassle but at least once a cheque has cleared in your account you know the money is really there. I have just been reading stories from the sites Wayne gave about people having chargebacks months after the transaction took place, very scary.

Emma - I had the very same thing happen to me a few years ago, I shipped a brand new moile phone to someone who recalled the £200 from Paypal, they told me that they needed the phone for a birthday gift so I sent it, thinking that once the money was in my Paypal ac that it was theer and that was that. They took the money back and the buyer got my phone - since than I only use cheques and postal orders and never send anything until I have got cleared funds in my account. It sucks that people do these things as I am also very honest and will help anyone if I can - hence them sayingi t was a gift so I sent if straight away. I suppose I learnt the hard way.
 
Sorry you've had all this hassle and the worse thing is with e-bays new feedback rules no matter what the buyer does you can't leave a negative or neutral feedback for them but they can leave one for you. So I buyer can happily scam as many people as he / she likes and no one will be any the wiser as they'll have perfect feedback :confused3

Well obviously EBay couldn't care less as they still collect their charges even if the transaction is a scam, so I suppose it suits them not to have any neg feedback for buyers. :mad:
