I can't believe I just booked DLH!

Awesome wdwstar! What airline did you get a good fare on?

I booked our airfare to DL for april (good friday) with AA out of chicago to las angels to las vegas to chicago round trip tax and fees... :rockband: $210 per ticket :thewave: we pay at easter/christmas $180 to fly to wdw.

in order to get this price and the time i wanted, i had to book at 3:30 am, :rotfl: I heard to get the best prices on flights , to book around 3am.
i think i did very good for flying on AA for flying 3 legs, ok its airplane talk :rotfl: i just checked and our flights are $100 more per ticket.

Sorry guys! Actually, DH has tried to talk me into going to Hong Kong. :rotfl:
Wow, I would have to be put into an induced coma to get on that flight!

When we flew to Paris for our honeymoon I had my doctor give me something. I can't recall what it was... I just remember DH waking me up every once in awhile to drink some water and remind me to go to the bathroom. You could say I was a little knocked out.

I'm confused wdwstar. You mean you booked it at 3 in the morn or your flight leaves at 3 in the morn???
I've been watching prices a little. Looks like right now roundtrip / nonstop is around $375 from ATL to LAX. I gotta have nonstop for my sanity and for the kids.

Hubby is taking me to Disneyland in March for my 50th Birthday! :earseek:

We are staying on points at DLH....it was such a good deal that we are staying on the Consierge Level!

I grew up in southern CA and have not been to Disneyland since 1974....I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

I hope all my fellow DVC'ers going to Disneyland for MY 50th Birthday Party have a wonderful time..... :wave2: :bday:

We're leaving in two weeks for 2 1/2 days at DL before a conference I have in San Diego. Don't have enough points to use so we're staying at Tropicana Suites. DLH looks awesome, but what the heck. At least we get to see DL. Couldn't resist going there for the 50th knowing how close it is to San Diego. I went to DL a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago, before CA, even before WDW existed! Yeah, dinosaurs still roamed the earth back then too.

I booked my airfare at 3 am not flying 3 am, oh my goodness, i would not be able to fly at 3am. Im lucky i could stay up until midnight in vegas to fly home, a red eye, never again. :rotfl: my flight are non stop, i agree i need to take off once and land once. we are flying april 14 from ord to lax and then on april 19 we fly from lax to las. then april 22 we fly las to ord.
maybe that is a little more clear for you. what were your dates again, i  a challenge, i have a few sites that i check out for prices. :flower:

you can only book up to june 14, 2006 , right now.. if your dates are before that date i would keep checking and in a few weeks or when gas prices drop
then you will be able to get a good deal.

wdwstar, we're going June 12th, coming back the 16th. Delta has it for $372 right now... What sites do you use or look on?

Thanks!

Oh, and I hope all of us going have fun! I want to hear reports! :teeth:

Calypso, I agree. I love DL and went for the second time for the 50th. The attractions have subtle differences -- I actually prefer the California versions of Pirates and the Haunted Mansion. The Indiana Jones ride is great -- unique to CA -- and there are kebabs that I dream about. Don't miss the movie and display on the creation of DL on Main Street -- it was great. :flower:

Safari Queen: Just wanted to say I love your Basenji (sorry -- don't know if that's spelled correctly :o ). Is it true that they don't shed?

Excuse the interruption...back to Disneyland!

From someone that's been to Disneyland too many times to count...it definitely does *not* stink!

Agreed.

We were there at the DLH last Christmas (Dec 21 - Dec 26) and had a wonderful time. My wife has a fondness for the DLH. It was the first *nice* hotel we ever stayed at (perhaps 15 years ago), and she likes the memories. The pool staff are great with our daughters, and they love the Neverland pool.

Here is a link to the pool vew from our balcony. 1/2 the rooms face the pool, sine the hotel is 3 towers in a U shape. Ignore DD3
in the middle if you can.

(well I was gonna post the url to this picture byt DIS won't let newbies do this. Perhaps after I've earned my ears)

It's right next to the Disney District, and a very short walk to the Monorail -- the *best* way to enter the park in the morning! Drops you off at the back of the park, while all the crowds are coming in the front. Even on Christmas day (a VERY busy day -- 70,000 people we were told) we were able to hit 8 of the Fantasyland rides in the first hour, before the crowds from the front gate flooded the back of the park.

Our modus operandi on our DL trips is to take the monorail in first thing. Hit the attractions for an 90 minutes or a few hours (depending on the crowds) Then visit other Disney sites that aren't crowded (art galleries and such). Then take the monorail back to the hotel (usually around noon), eat lunch, enjoy the pool, rest, and go back to the park in the evening when it's cooler and we are rested.

As much as my wife likes the DLH, I talked her into giving the GC a try this year. We will be visiting Dec 4 - 10th this year, and it's our first stat at the GC.

I CANNOT WAIT!

Welcome to everyone coming to my park. :) Head to head DL is better than the MK. We go about every third week to the DLR. Our last trip was a week ago this past Sunday, only spending time at DCA. Hoping to go this Friday to try out Space. DLR is perfect for 3-5 days of vacation. For 5 days I'd do the trip as follows:

Day 1: DL
Day 2: DCA
Day 3: Relax, DTD, swim, etc.
Day 4: DL
Day 5: DCA/DL combo

Its also fairly easy to go into the park for just a couple hours, ride a couple things, grab FP's, etc., then come back later.

The FP system is a bit different as well. First, the parks are so close to each other you can have a runner(the husband of course) cruise into one park, pick up FP, then cruise back to the other park. Secondly, not all the machines are connected, thus you can own multiple FP.

At DL Roger Rabbit isn't connected, thus you can FP this, as well as another big E ticket.

At DCA, Grizzly Rapids isn't connected, so grab one here, along with another E ticket. Thus you could carry 4 FP at once(5 FP if you grab a new one before using a FP in the park that your in).

The best place to eat at DL is the Blue Bayou, which gives you a view of Pirates, and has great prime rib. They take AR's.

DCA has a Winery that you can eat at, and some great burgers at Test Pilot. Then of course you have DTD with all of its eateries.

If anyone has any questions just PM me and I'll be happy to answer.

That's our exact plan! Can't wait....we'll be there July 26th -Aug. 1st. Didn't book with points this time but I'm hoping that DH says to upgrade our passes to the annual pass and then we'll definite be back.

Thanks for all the tips everyone! I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions as it gets closer. ;)

Shan,

That's exciting about the getting into DLH. I forgot they were giving a discount. We're planning a DL/Las Vegas combo trip next summer. Probably in July. I need to start my research. I think we might want to use our points to stay at the DLH.

SoCalKDG,
I liked the your plan. We've just started discussing how many nights to stay. I was thinking 4 nights. I've only been to DL once in 1993 and we stayed at the DLH. So it's changed a lot. I looking forward to going again. Once I got over the shock of the castle and where the monorail drops you off, I really enjoyed the park.

ksoehrlein I  your flashing magic kingdom signature...I want one ! :goodvibes
Check out the Virtual Magic Kingdom thread. MagicKimdom is my user name there, and the "siggie fairy" was kind enough to make my name glittery!

Anyway, back to my original question, since I never did get around to calling MS and once again, they're closed: Does anyone have the new and improved point chart for DLH?

Shan,

Good for you on booking this trip and facing your flying fears. As you can see from our countdown, we’re going to DLR (Disneyland Resort) this October for our anniversary. We also took advantage of the reduced points and are staying at the DLH.

Struggling with planning which parks which days, plus they just added a Halloween event at CA that mixes things up even more, but we’ll be there 3 full days so we should be okay.

Can’t wait to go, kids have never been, and me and DW were only there (DL) for one afternoon/evening on a business trip in 2002.

Peace,
G4L

That is great news! Congrats! I hope you enjoy DL, because when I go to WDW, I meet A LOT of people from Calif. I ask them why do you come here when DL is in your backyard? They say "it stinks", nothing like this place, it is small, etc.

I hope you do enjoy it, but if the natives says "it stinks", what does that tell the other part of the country??

Still, I (and family), would like to go out there once, anyway...

Have fun!!
DeerH

I've been to DL many times and it doesn't "stink". As my best friend (a native So Cali girl btw) tells me all the time, it may not be the biggest, but it is the original. Dhe's right. DL is special.
