Behold the power of the human spirit...This afternoon I began the first of what I hope will be a regular regimen of *GASP* JOGGING! Now let me just say this; I hate running...I hate jogging...I even hate brisk walks ;) , but as I sat in front of the tv after lunch at around 12:30 this afternoon I finally felt it. You know...soft, flabby, and well...Disgusted with myself. I just turned 30 and I'm tired of being out of shape. I'm tired of scrounging for clothes that fit and then having to settle for less than stylish ensembles because it's all they carry in a size 14. I'm not fat. I'm 5'8" and about 185lbs, which is WAY over my ideal weight. I would like to get to 155 (ok, 160!). I'd like to be a size 10 (12 when I have my period!), instead of a 14/16. I want to KNOW that I can go for a quick jog and not feel dead afterwards.

I was SOO incredibly invigorated after my run today. I was shocked at just how well I did (for my first time out). I jogged for about 25 minutes (maybe a mile and half) but half of that was uphill, and I mean UPHILL. Of course I stretched first and cooled down afterwards, but I amazed myself when I reached the spot I promised myself I would force myself to jog to and found I was ready for MORE! I had the ipod cranked up and was really into it. I bet I'll be sore tomorrow but it'll be worth it.

My goal (and the ultimate reason I started this jogging program) was so I can wear a two-piece during our upcoming trip to WDW this November and have pictures I can look back at and feel PROUD of.

I don't plan to alter my diet much. I eat 3 normal meals a day and don't snack. I HATE dieting more than excercise! I really am amazed at what I can do when I am motivated. So anyone else here wanna join in my jogging program and we can track our success together? I'm hoping to add maybe 1/2 mile to my runs each week.

Any joggers out there with any pointers for me?

Congratulations!

GOOD for YOU!!!!

You will get that cool feeling every time you exercise. After a little while, you feel better all day, every day!

Exercise beats dieting in my book, because I like yummy food. :) Plus, you just feel so dang good when you exercise...and so crappy when you diet.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step...and you took it! Congrats!!

Good luck!! I love my kids, but I really miss the days when I could go to the gym whenever I wanted. You're right - it feels great. Maybe someday! I'm almost the same size as you (5'9") and I'd be happy with 170.

DH looked at me like I was crazt when he came home from work yesterday and I told him all about it. Then he almost fainted when I asked if he'd like me to wait until the evenings and he could jog with me. Then when I revived him *wink* I said we could take the dogs for a long walk together in the evening when it's cooler...he seemed ok with that. I work from home (on the horse farm) so I can fit in a mile or two a day. That is when i'm not riding/training horses, teaching riding lessons, or cleaning the barn!

Great Job! :thumbsup2

I started running about 2 weeks ago. I go every other day. I was already in decent shape from going to the gym, but running gets you in shape in different ways and it is great! Congratulations and have a great time! :goodvibes

Congratulations!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Keep it up!! It does get easier!! I've been getting up early every morning and going to the gym and it's amazing the sense of accomplishment that comes from doing something you really didn't want to do in the first place. And it does give you so much more energy for the rest of the day! :cheer2:

You go girl! :woohoo: ENJOY!

Jogging/running is not my thing, although I LOVE to walk, but I'm planning on joining our local gym soon and taking aerobics and yoga. :cheer2:

I can't jog for any distance (bum foot), but love to walk. Regular exercise does make you feel great, huh? Be careful out there running on the country roads of Davie County.
