I can't believe how mad i am!

First off, the only difference in adding days is a technicality. If these were regular tickets and i was delayed, there would be no issues. These tickets were discounted THROUGH DISNEY, not some shady broker out of the back of a Dodge. So anyone else that is one of "many people get delayed in leaving WDW due to transportation issues" would not be dealing with this. I am not asking for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! As you can see through a previous poster, this has been done for some and not for others. So as far as being unreasonable, I have to STRONGLY disagree.

I've highlighted the relevant part. The tickets were discounted with restrictions. I'm sorry you can't get your extra days as cheap as those people who paid full price, but that's what happens when you buy at a discount - even through the "official" channel. Again, see my airline ticket example. Same thing. People with nonrefundable tickets purchased throgh the airline do NOT have the same flexibility as those who purchased their tickets as full price. Your request to be treated as someone who paid full price is what is unreasonable.

ETA: And yes, anyone else who purchased their tickets the same way you did and has transportation delays would also not be able to add on to their tickets.

Not in her case. She bought a special ticket that was a certain price for a fixed number of days and is not upgradeable. There most likely was not a ticket for 2 more days. She could have bought a ticket that was not a discount and they would have done the upgrade. Disney is not being mean to her they are following the policy for the tickets. She paid way less than the ticket would have cost if it was upgradeable.

Yes, there were more days. I could've gotten for 14 if I wanted. I was here for 7, I got 7.

Secondly, thanks to all of you who have been so kind to offer suggestions! I think that we will definitely go check out the Fort today. Hubby and I have often wondered what camping here would be like, so today will be the day to check it out! Now that I have had a few hours sleep, I am not so angry. More suggestions would be great, and thanks so much!

Now you're talking! I'm excited for you, sitting here in my office! You'll have to report back and tell us what you found to do. Have fun!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Don't forget to check out the Fort at night! They have a free outdoor movie, I think it's one or two nights a week? Best to check with the front desk. They also have a fire pit where you can make smores. I think there is a small fee for that $5 or so? It's been awhile since I've checked. I thought I read somewhere that they roast marshmallows around the fire pit and tell stories too.

They do rent bikes and I think golf carts. Some of the resorts have special free programs. Like the Poly has a lady bug release in the a.m. on certain days of the week. I don't think you have to stay there to participate, but you might want to check.

There was a thread about all the fun free things to do at Disney that was really long. Try to do a search and find it. If I find it, I will pass it along.

Have fun! :goodvibes

You know what, I would have never posted if I realized that people were going to reply like this. You're right, I had a choice to leave early. I could've tried to get on Thursday's train, if there was room. Secondly I did not ask for free food or accommodations, just the $3 extension on the ticket.

GEEZ! You would think this was a political thread!

Please don't let it bother you. Just ignore the posts that make you frustrated or angry and go have fun!

Here is a neat and free one: while at Fort Wilderness, be sure to look for the lawnmower tree!

I sure hope that your post was more out of frustration, and not a true feeling that somehow you were entitled to something from Disney because of the inclement weather.

Turn off the computer already, and have fun. :)

OP definitely report back about FW! My kids have wanted to get over there at night for the marshmallow roasting for so long but we haven't made it over there. Sounds fun!

I also like the idea of Kona for dinner and watching MK fireworks from the Poly beach.

We haven't done it either. The kids are usually too pooped to even think about it after a day at the parks!

Please do let us know, it's on our to-do list!

Nick Hotel!!!
thats what I would do!..I would book a night there....I see rates from $90...
:yay:

You could spend some time at Animal Kingdom Lodge and watch the animals!

There is a pretty major band of snow across most of the central part of the US. I'm sure you're not the only one affected. Why should Disney or any other hotel comp you free stuff? Buy travel insurance next time. They would have covered your meals and let you stay put at your first resort. I guess the way you tell your children that you are not going to the parks is to say, "Today we are going to the pool. Let's race to see who can get their swim suit on first." Seriously, they are little kids. Fairly easy to entertain with fun pools, riding the monorail or boat to another destination to explore, going to DTD.

I don't think she's really asking Disney to give her anything FREE, but rather the same discount she would have gotten had she bought the extra days from the beginning. Obviously, Disney doesn't make a rule of doing that if you bought the discounted tickets, but really, it would cost them nothing and would have them live up to their reputation of great customer service. I don't know that they are doing anything WRONG to not do it, but it is certainly not something I wold expect from Disney.

If you are really stuck on going to the parks, I would try Guest relations at a park, maybe one adult make the trip so the kids don't think they are going in before you know what's up. I know the computers at the parks allow for things that the resort computers don't. They are different systems from what I have been told. Good luck.
Donna

Having been in a similar predicament, I would go to a park and speak to one fo the Guest Relations people there. Perhaps you all could go to Ft.Wilderness and your DH could take stay with the kids while you hop the boat to the MK and explain your situation. While Guest Relations folks at the hotels are great, it seems to me that the ones at the parks have a little more "juice" when it comes to working the system. And if you can't upgrade, they may sprinkle you with some kind of other pixie dust...you never know...

If the ticket thing doesn't work out:
~Ft.Wilderness and all the associated suggestions that have already been made
~Boardwalk...performers, ice cream, shops, arcades (ESPN, the Boardwalk resort, the Y&B Club resort), rent a bike and ride around the Boardwalk
~Poly, GF, CR, WL or Ft.Wilderness at night to see the Electric Water Pageant
~WL to watch the geyser erupt
~Swim
~Mini golf
~Play on the beach at one of the resorts with a beach
~Water parks. Slightly less expensive ticket price than a park I think
~DTD and go up in the balloon-I think there is a charge for this
~Go to a pool at a different resort. You're DVC members, so you can pool hop, right?
~AKL to look at the animals
~See if anything is going on at Wide World of Sports. Once we were there and there was a paintball tournament going on and they had some of the sessions set up on the grassy areas throughout the parking lot so you could watch withou having to pay any entrance fee.
~Consider a rental car for a day and go off site. You could pick up the car at the Swan/Dolphin or the onsite National rental place near the MK.

i think you've gotten some great suggestions. i can think of tons of things to do that don't involve the parks! i always leave feeling like i wish i would've taken a day to explore the resorts--so much to see. i love the boardwalk area.

and there is so much to explore at fort wilderness too (glad to see you're heading there).

plus downtown disney, golfing, swimming--and those are only the things on-property!

it could be worse--you could be snowed in at home and unable to go anywhere. :)

OP, folks on the DIS tend to pile on at times but I don't think they are trying to beat you down like it sounds, there's just a lot of people with the same opinion on this thread.
I hope you guys find lots of fun, wonderful things to do for the next two days. Things like this can be so stressful when you're on vacation, sometimes it's hard to take it all in stride.

Pre-Magic Your Way tickets weren't set up to be cheap after you bought a certain number of days. They were automatically non-expiring and park hopper., Averaged out, the price per day went down when you bought more days, but there was a significant leap in price from each day to the next. Back then, we would buy the largest number of days per the ticket and split them between two trips. For each trip pre-2002, we wound up doing an equal number of park days and days spent hanging around the resorts.

Based on some things we did, I can recommend taking the resort bus to the Magic Kingdom. Across from the entrance to the MK and next to the MK monorail station, take the boat to Fort Wilderness. At FW, visit the petting zoo and take the kids on a pony ride. The pony ride there is very cute and inexpensive. They set it up so that the parent walks the pony with their child in the saddle through various paths running in and around a barn with other animals. It's not set up where some guy walks the pony around in a circle. Mom or Dad chooses the pony walking path and can make the ride as short or long as they'd like. :)

After that, you can eat dinner at the buffet in Fort Wilderness. Or take the boat to the Wilderness Lodge and explore those grounds. They have a great playground on the beach. The kids won't be able to swim there, but it's generally cool and relaxing next to the water.

I think you have a happy problem. :) There is so much to see and do in the resorts. Many of them offer horse and buggy rides that kids love. The Wilderness Lodge and Port Orleans are two resorts that do.

You could take a boat from Downtown Disney to Port Orleans--either French Quarter or Riverside. I love the boat ride by itself! :cloud9: You can tour the grounds, eat at their food court, and take a horse and buggy ride. When you're done, take the boat back to Downtown and the bus back to your resort from there. :)

Have fun! The Walt Disney World Resort is one of the best places in the world to be "stuck" without a car and "nothing to do." :sunny:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they cut down the tree. No idea why. :sad1:

But Fort Wilderness is one of our favorite places - there are places to play on the beach, and a playground near the restaurant, as well as the horses and the other animals. And we just love the food at the buffet. We rent a surrey and ride it from there to Wilderness Lodge and back. Saw a deer once. Tons of fun.

Ok, I know, I know, there are rules. But I have been in retail and restaurant management for over 15 years, and I know there are times when the rules need to be bent or broken for guest satisfaction.

We are snowed in, at Disney. Our train that was supposed to leave Friday night is cancelled and we can't leave until Sunday night. You might all be thinking that if you have to be snowed in, there is no place better than Disney! Yeah, I thought that too, for a few minutes.

We had to check out of Old Key West and move to a value, because OKW is just too expensive at cash rate. The concierge at OKW said that the concierge at the Value could extend my park tickets by two days for $3.20 per day! SWEET! We can't get the dining plan because it's not 48 hours in advance. Uh, what? Well whatever, no big deal. I think that's silly, but whatever.

The concierge at the value can't extend my tickets because they were purchased through the Youth in Education Series. So they are discounted tickets. Mind you, purchased through Disney, through a Disney agent, not a travel agent or another vendor. So now it's 7pm and I have been working on this at 2 different resorts for about 3 hours. The concierge at the value says I have to go to Guest Relations at a park to get it done. I check into our new room and my kids are STARVING! So I call Guest Relations instead.

They tell me they can't do it. WHAT!?!?!! What do you mean you can't do it? You're Disney! Then they say that they will be happy to issue me 2 day tickets for my entire party, at full price. I ask to speak to a manager who had to be the most condescending person I have spoken to in YEARS! He tells me no as well.

So now we are stuck at this resort with no dining plan, no car, no way to get home, and no park tickets. Try explaining to three kids under 10 that you are at Disney and can't go to the parks.

I am debating on what to do next. I'm not sure there is anything I CAN do?

The bolded part is what would make me angry. She was told that it could be done by someone who was supposed to have known the facts. Can you try to find this CM and have them help you since they told you it could be done?

I don't think Disney is responsible for anything other than upholding what the OP was told. If she had been told right off that she would not be able to extend the tickets, then she has no cause to be angry. But the CM not only said it could be done, but quoted a PRICE. IMO that should be upheld.

Only if the OP told him that she had discounted YES tickets. His answer was true for most tickets - if the OP just said she had 7 day hopper tickets, his answer was true. If she didn't give him all the pertinent details, he (and WDW) cannot be held accountable for an incorrect answer.

And, the OP was told right off the bat that she couldn't upgrade the tickets - when she bought the discounted tickets.
