I woke up this morning with my right eye swollen shut and all crusted with nasty yellow/green gunk. Called the Dr.'s office and got the answering machine - the office is closed today. Since I had to go to work and staying home was not an option, I used some antibiotic eye ointment I had. I thought it was left over from when one of the kids had conjunctivitis (sp). Well my eye cleared right up. Fast forward a couple of hours and I remember that the ointment that I used was presribed by the vet for my CAT when he had a eye infection! I ran home at lunch (luckily I only live a mile from work) to read the label and call the nurse hotline. When I told her what I did there was dead silence on the other other end of the line and then she said "just when you think you've heard it all"! Luckily, the ointment is prescribed for both humans and pets. Moral to this story - don't keep your pet meds in the medicine cabinet!

Well...it is kind of hard to read the label when one eye is swollen shut.

But, still...:rotfl: :rotfl2:

OMG, LOL!

I've got one too! Our power went out right when I got out of the shower one night. Complete darkness. Well DH calls the Entergy line and gets one of those automated messages that says Your power will be up by 3 a.m. or something like that. Well since Entergy had said it would be a few hours I went ahead and finished my nightly routine.

I got my toothbrush, put toothpaste on it.....put it in my mouth and it was BENGAY!!!!! I also called the E.R. and they laughed and said as long as I had spit it out when I tasted it and washed my mouth out it wasn't enough to hurt me.

Same thing happened when I was a cheerleading camp as a Junior in high school. We had a blackout in the dorm & one of the girls put Ben-Gay on her toothbrush!

Thanks for the laughs!!!! :lmao:

All I can say is Bwaahhhhh. :rotfl:

You reminded me of why I keep on coming back.

All's well that ends well...:thumbsup2

:rotfl: Oh wow, too funny! Fortunately it seems a lot of the meds pets get are the same as human meds (like antibiotics and the like... at least my vet said this to me). I am just glad your eye cleared up so quickly too :teeth:

I had a stye and I went to the eye dr for a prescription, it was the EXACT same medicine as what my dog had used, I still had some left over and used it. Animal meds have to have FDA testing also

:lmao: That is to funny.
Well I have a funny one about my DM,she was at my Dsis house and had stayed the night with her and we had to have Rage at the Outpatient clinic to have his surgery done on his eye really early the next morning. My DM is not a morning person at all so she goes into the bathroom to brush her teeth i suppose with her eyes still half shut and puts Desitin ointment on her brush and started to brush her teeth.LOL:lmao:My Ds said she heard her in there gagging and freaking out screaming and she did not know what was going on and she went to check on her and said you would not believe the look on her face.

One of my cats and my dad were on the same asthma medication at one point.

I'm glad you weren't made any worse by using your pet's medication. I've read that many pet meds are exactly like the ones used by their humans. I, too, have a story about mistaken health/beauty products. When I wore contacts I tried be very careful while using hairspray. One morning I reached under the cabinet for my hairspray and must have closed my eyes right away and sprayed all over my head. I would wait a second for it to settle before opening my eyes. In that second I could hear my freshly washed and styled hair "foaming". Yep, I had just sealed my new "do" with Dow Scrubbing Bubbles! I was late that morning for work, but I arrived with sparkling clean hair!
