Having a conscience crisis here.

I just posted in the DEC Adr cancel thread that the family travelling with us has just cancelled (5 weeks out) so I was going to change our ADRs from 8 people to 4, hopefully open a table for another family.

It is suggested I may not be able to do that. Instead I will have to cancel all together and rebook, which I will certainly not get decent if any ADRs now.

If this is the case, it may seem horrible to some but I am tempted to keep my orignial ADRs. I booked these months back and had no idea the family would up and cancel on us. For our two kids the character meals are the highlight of the trip so they would be heartbroken..... :sad2:

Looking for a general consensus here on what will happen if I call the WDWdine. Also WWYD ?????

I would call and ask first. Maybe you can get some of your ADRs set to a party of 4. If the rest are not available, I would keep what you already have. I don't consider it cheating the system. It is not your fault that half your party cancelled. I definitely would not want my kids disappointed because of it. Disney has made it necessary to have ADRs at least 3 months in advance so I think they should be understanding when party sizes decrease. Just my opinion.... :flower3:

I am trying to get through on the phone.

I am also online trying to get ADRs for 4 people and there is next to nothing that were hoping for.

Why not try to book what you want online and see what you get then call and cancel the ones you were able to get?

I'm playing aroudn with my reservations for the same time. One evening I can't find anything I want.

As a party of 1 - some places I had no choice of times or available. Put in a party of 2 - suddenly a lot more become available.

On one evening - playing with the online system makes me go up to a party of 9 before I could find availability. I didn't take it and instead going to attempt to eat at the bar solo that evening.

That is what I am trying to do.. Seriously though, I cannot even get CP the entire week... no availability. I am trying all variations of times for a number of character meals. Grrrr...:headache:

I have a similar story just the opposite though. We were 3 and added 1 to make 4. I called to add the additional person to our adrs and the CM had to see if there was available tables. No luck! I kept my original ressies. They said they just couldnt add a person they had to re-run it in the system? It seemed very strange to me. Maybe with dropping people it will work for you though. :confused3

We must have been typing at the same time when I first posted lol I wish you luck. What days are you going to be there?

Why not just call and ask so you don't go crazy looking for other reservations?

I have been able to lower the amount of people dining, but have had difficulty adding people. In many cases, a table for 8 will be 2 fours together.

If you can change the amount, great. If you can't, keep what you have and tell them when you check in (you will have created magic for a walk up group that is able to get in). They will not sit you at a table for 8 with 4 people.

That is UNLESS one of your restaurants requires a credit card hold/cancellation fee. If that is the case, you must change the number in your party or you will be charged for all 8.

The problem is probably that the OP is going from a large table down to a table for four - and the tables for four may all be booked up by now.

I would consider a couple of options. First, as a previous poster suggested, keep trying online to get the reservation for four, and then if you do, cancel the reservation for 8.

Second, if it doesn't matter to you and you end up keeping your reservations as is, see if there's another DIS family who would like to meet up with you to fill the seats. I'm sure there are other families trying to get the ressies you have and would be thrilled at the opportunity to join you (paying their own way, of course).

The important thing would be to be sure you won't be charged for any meals that required a credit card guarantee - so those should be modified one way or the other.

Yes, that is true and you have good advice. I would still call first, then check online, but if nothing else was available I would keep my existing reservations (as long as a credit card is not involved).

The group may have to wait longer for a table for four, but probably would not be shut out. Just my $.02 - YMMV.

I would call and ask. I made changes for my sister's trip when the family who was traveling with them canceled a few weeks out. The CM told me they are generally able to decrease the number on an ADR, it is much harder to increase. She told me she appreciated that I made the call so the spot could be opened for another.

Just got off the phone with a great CM (seriously doesn't that make so much difference!!!)

Anywho, changed all of my ADRs from 8 peeps to 4 with no problems!!!

Was able to keep all of my original times.

Thanks for all the advice :)

Awesome!:cool1: It is all in who you speak with isn't it

That is great! We're going in May but I'm not sure what days my husband will be with us. We could be a party of three, or a party of four. Hopefully we'll be able to make changes just as easy later on.

And yes it is who you speak with. Yesterday I called to make Thanksgiving reservations for our "Year of Disney" and the guy was completely unhelpful. This morning the nice lady was fantastic and got exactly what we needed and even offered suggestions.

We won't be back after 2010 for four years, so I'm excited to try everything.
