I can not stop thinking about yesterday's Oprah show!

The one on was about the family who's little girl was killed in a limo accident. A man was driving drunk down the wrong side of the road and hit the limo head on. The mom got out of the destroyed limo and carried her 7 year old dughter's severed head and sat holding it on the curb for over an hour. I just can't believe that! It is soooo sad and kind of creepy. It happened 2 years ago and the family barely lives. They said they just go through the motions of living. I feel bad for their other kids. Why does it seem that most of the time the drunk driver lives and the innocent people die?
Anyone else see it?

Are you talking about the accident in LI, NY? OMG I never heard that darling child was decapitated!!!!I don't think I could ever ever recover from that.

Yea, it was in Long Island. They were coming home from a family wedding. The bride and groom provided limo's and hotel rooms for the guests so they wouldn't have to worry about drinking and driving.

This happened here and it was just so sad, always in the paper and lots of news etc. all the time, up until the trial etc. I feel the driver got what he deserved. I know the family has another cute little dd and it does seem like she is ignored only because the family is just too consumed in their grief yet. My heart goes out to the family. They showed a drawing that Katie made right before the accident in school. The limo driver had a nice family too. Its so sad 2 familys were totally destroyed because of alcohol. Its all my ds see and they know why alcohol is not allowed in our family etc.

I saw it too and cannot shake that show.

I sobbed...broke my heart and I can absolutely understand that anguish and despair. Their pain seems unsurmountable..and my heart aches for them and with them. If it were one of mine..I am sure I could not go on.

God love them...

The Grandmother as well that backed over her grandson. Absolute devastation.

I just went to Oprah.com and read the story because I missed the show. What a complete nightmare! Sad doesn't even begin to describe this story! Tragic!

The father of little Katie Flynn is a friend of a a friend of ours. I saw the show yesterday-it was heartbreaking. That poor family is just destroyed. I really pray that they can move past their horrible grief and reclaim their lives. The poor father just about broke my heart-he seems so hopeless. I cannot even begin to imagine the horror

I cannot imagine their grief. Honestly, I would end up in the looney bin if something like this happened to me. Having a DD8 and DD6 it hits too close to home. I pray that they can somehow move to the point of giving their other DD as normal a life as possible.

I saw it and just sat in disbelief. I couldn't begin to know what they are going through. When they interviewed the uncle who came up on the scene, it was so heart breaking. He said, when he got to the limo that his niece came out of the car holding her daughter's head. That they got her in the ambulance, but wouldn't let go of her head. She said she wasn't leaving Katie. The uncle finally got in with her and asked her if she would let him take care of her. I don't think I breathed during that interview.

I saw this thread earlier, so I had to go to Oprah.com to read it, then my DH calls me and is like "what's up?" So I explained what I was reading and he just said to stop there. I remember hearing about the accident too, but NEVER about the decapitation!!! Just awful!! I also read the impact statements, in full, and I couldn't imagine the he!! that they're going through. I don't know how I could survive either. Like the father said, if it wasn't for his 3 other kids, he'd have killed himself a long time ago...
