I broke down and got a dvd player!

I must be one of the last persons on the face of the earth to get one. Now I have a ton of Disney movies to replace! I am so confused about the format issue. I have a 27" TV. What format do I get If it doesn't list a format on the box, does that mean it's for a regular sized TV? Am I correct in staying away from dvds that are in widescreen format?

Congratulations. I broke down last Christmas and got one. No doubt, you get better results with DVD's.

As for which format? Who knows. I just buy the movie and don't pay attention. It always works, so I guess it doesn't much matter.

I much prefer widescreen, which is the way the movies were filmed. Fullscreen cuts of about 1/3 the picture to conform to the more square aspect of the older tv's. I do think some DVD's now only come in widescreen, though most have both on them.

Don't worry TC. You weren't the last one to get a DVD player. If I remember another thread, PatrickIL got one from his son for Christmas.

I personally only purchase the widescreen versions of films (if they are available). I truly despise the Pan&Scan cropped versions. If you don't mind the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, I would suggest sticking with the widescreen DVDs.

yep Santa brought us one too! So it is kind of funny we have a TV that is almost 15 years old or older...watching these fancy movies!

I would recommend buying widescreen versions as all tv manufacturers are in the process of converting to widescreen format. Odds are the next tv you buy will be widescreen.

A word of caution though, DVD buying can get addictive! Especially considering how cheap they are when on sale, Target has at least ten on sale for five bucks each (last week anyway).

We love our dvd players. Okay confessing we have six. One in family room, plus PS2 in family room, one in MB, 2 in lap tops, & DD has portable one.

We are watching POC right now in widescreen. We like widescreen. Good luck.
