Yesterday I went to the store to buy a Cannon S3 IS because I have heard so many good things about that camera here on the boards. When I got to the store the salesman was telling me that the Panasonic DMC was a better camera. I ended up getting the Cannon only because it was on sale, did I make the right choice? By the way I got it for $303.99 which I thought was a good deal.

The S3 is a great camera. You will not be disappointed. Yes, I believe you made the right choice (...you picked a Canon :thumbsup2 )

Excellent choice. Now read the manual and start filling up those memory cards with lots of practice shots while you learn the camera. You'll love it. :woohoo:

A couple of years ago, Panasonic was on the verge of outdoing Canon in the superzoom category, but they never were able to take advantage of it and ended up making newer models that are supposed to have higher than average noise levels. I believe that the S3 is a better choice.

I think there's about 0% chance that you'll be unhappy with your S3! :thumbsup2

The Panasonics are decent cameras (more compact than an S3) but they've got brutal noise-suppression that I really don't like.

Personally, I love mine, and I believe the image quality of the Canon S3 to be about the best in it's class (superzoom P&S).
