I am wondering about overseas adoptions.....

I have been wondering for a long time and while I don't read all the threads about them I have read some but have not seen the answer to this. Please don't flame me...I am only wondering.

Why do so many people adopt from overseas(China and other places) instead of here in the USA? Is it just an easier procedure and less red tape? Is it because you can get them younger? Is it more expensive to adopt here? I really do not have a clue and I am not degrading anyone that chooses this route but I was just wondering why over there and not here?????

I know lots on this board have adopted or are going through the process so I was hoping to get an answer. Again...I am just really curious. I have no plans to adopt from any place but was only curious.

I think there was just a HUGE thread on this recently.

We are adopting from Kazakhstan and for one of several reasons (which I may or may not get flamed for ):

1) we prefer an infant
2) I can't take the heartbreak of a failed adoption once we get invested with a birthmom
3) Don't like the idea of open adoption
4) Although I know legally the adoption would be final, there is nothing stopping the bmom from showing up at my door and disrupting my childs life... I will be completely honest with my daughter about where she came from and I would be willing to take her back over to Kaz myself to research her heritage and family but it will be on her terms... when she's ready
5) As much as the foster system stinks, kids born in the US will still have an advantage. Kids internationally don't really have a shot at any sort of decent life.
