I can not figure this out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It asks to find the pattern then fill in the blanks.

13,14,16,17,18,20,__,__,__,__,__.27

I am feeling VERY STUPID right now! Mind you this is 2nd grade. If I can't explain this to my DS what am I supposed to do when he's in 5th or 6th? Can anyone figure this out? :confused3

Are you sure there's five blanks between the 20 and the 27?

I was thinking it might have to do with Odds and evens. One odd then two evens, One odd then two evens. But that doesn't work with the five spots and the 27.

Hmm, that is really tough for 2nd grade!

21,22,23,25,26

2 numbers, hidden number, 3 numbers, hidden number, 4 numbers, hidden number, ...

Here's my guess, 21,21,23,25,26. I think the pattern is add 1 once, add 2, then add 1 twice, then add 2, add 1 three times, add 2, etc. I could be wrong, but I it fits.

On shoot!! I figured it out...got the same numbers as you...got really excited &..then scrolled down & saw you got it!!

P.S. This is called a "growing pattern" in 1st grade language.

my guess would be 21, 22, 23, 25, 26

it seems to go two in a row then skip one, then 3 in a row then skip one then 4 in a row then skip one. 13, 14, skip one (15), 16, 17, 18, skip one (19) that's are three in a row, then it goes 20, 21, 22, 23 which is four in a row and then skip one (24), then 25, 26, 27.... Not sure if I'm explaining it right!

My first thought is two in a row (13, 14), skip a number, three in a row(16,17,18), skip a number, four in a row (20, 21, 22, 23), skip a number, five in a row (25,26,27...)

This would fit with the pattern you showed. You just have to play around until you find some sort of a pattern.

This is what I figured too.

13 14 (skip 15), 16 17 18 (skip 19), 20 21 22 23 (skip 24), 25 26 27.

So the openings would be 21, 22, 23, 25, 26

two numbers, skip one, three numbers, skip one, four numbers, skip one, five numbers... etc etc

Oops - guess I shouldn't get distracted during a post! I see a bunch of us all said the same thing.

Can I say that I feel very stupid now. Within 5 minutes you had the answer.I think I need to go back to grade school!!!!!! Thank you so much for the answer. Boy,I feel like a corndog!!!

don't feel bad my ds is in 4th grade and brings home work that makes me scratch my head atleast once a week. I say "hmmm let's see what Daddy thinks when he gets home" since I don't want to admit I am puzzled by 4th grade science lol

Wow.... I came up with the same answer.... Yeah!!! I can do 2nd grade math

Now, my son's freshman algebra is another story :confused3

:goodvibes

Just recently I posted here for help on my dd's math problem because I was stumped because I figured it out several times with different answers.

At least we're learning along with them ... :thumbsup2

I think you are right . Here is what I don't get. Why would they stop at 27? They should have put 28 and 29 on the paper. It makes it seem like it's back to a pattern of 3. Oh well whatever.... I think I have over analyzed this stupid problem for way too long.

lol all I can say is I'm glad I'm not in 2nd grade! I'm terrible with math and this question just reafirmed that!

I would like to request the Administrators create a "sticky" with all the first and second grade math stumpers so I can reference it later when I will need it. :teeth:

Although, I did get that one. :cool1:
