I am soooooo mad!!!!

:thanks: for not being afraid to speak up! While many people think this crosses the line into interferring, I feel that these kidsa are the ones we need to look out for...for the sake of that baby's life.

Our children aren't allowed in the front seat of any vehicle - running or not. We don't want that freak accident to happen that you read about...car hits parked car, kids in front or airbag deploys no reason/cause found. I know the chances are slim to none but my 2 toddlers aren't worth the risk. Back seat only and in booster seats!

Guess what I found out? Not all of the school buses that our public school uses for class trips are equipped with seat belts!!!! So, I wrote a note stating that if my son's bus for a 5/23 class trip does not have belts, he is to be left in the school office and I will pick him up!

Sadly, it won't have seatbelts and your son will miss the school trip :guilty:

Maybe you can drive him and follow the bus so he doesn't have to sit in the office all day.

UGH! Those who dont put babies in car seats are STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID people!

.

All of the school buses in our district have seat belts..the kids never use them but htey have them on there. The only time they get used is when they are on a field trip and the parent chaperons make them all buckle up but otherwise there is no one there to make them do it so no one does it.

I don't think there's anyone here who will say not having your child in a carseat is okay. I think you've got that confused with someone losing hold of a leaning toddler. Big difference.
Actually I thought that story was stupid, as my little acrobat tries to do a back flip out of my arms. There have been people who have said that they didn't have carseats when they were young and didn't get why the carseats laws were so strict...after all they didn't die. Just remember when you assume...well you know the rest...

i used to work with a women that held her son on her lap also.

for a very well- educated women, it's a shame :sad2:

I want to move to your school district. I think that is awesome. Not one bus in our district has a seatbelt. Sad, isn't it :guilty:

School busses are actually designed so that seat belts are not required. I know that is not the best choice of words but that is all I can come up with on a Sunday morning.

The seating area is higher than the typical impact zone in the majority of accidents. This allows for protection without the use of seatbelts.

Unfortunatley, that doesn't helop when the bus rolls or tips as has happened in school bus accidents. :guilty:

My son was in a bus accident. It was in a chartered bus the band used for a trip to Chicago. A few kids were hurt. One had stiches, one had a broken arm, a few bruises. My son ended up with a pretty bad concusion. He was returning from the on-board rest room when the second bus from this trip failed to stop at the stop light. So he was thrown back, etc. These had seat belts. Yet most of the kids were sleeping, and had taken them off. (They were the ones that weren't hurt at all, as they just rolled forward). It is a scarey thing to have the police call you and tell you to pick up your child at a hospital an hour away. We even to this day joke that we are very uncomfortable for him to go on any bus trips. Needless to say, that charter bus company went out of business from this incident. It's very difficult being a parent when your child is in public schools. You just have to get used to it and pick your battles. We were just very glad the injuries were not severe for anyone.
