I am so torn...How can I decide?!

I have a PIN code for this fall and it works for our dates (yay!). We just so happened to mention to good friends of our that we were planning a trip. Guess what?! They will be down the same time frame. They are driving(us flying) and we stay an extra 3 days at the end. They are 5(2Ad and 3 kids) and we are 2 & 2.

So, now that you know the basic background, we are trying to book a resort. I say trying because our trip begins Nov 5th so the deals for our dates, assuming there will be some, are not out yet. Because they are 5, they always stay at POR. I have stayed there before and really like it! But, of course, my PIN code shows no available rooms, and without the PIN there are only standard rooms(not preferred) and the cost is $2352 for 11 nights.

The PIN is good for CSR a standard room and the cost there is $1759 same length. Our other option is a family suite at ASM and the total is $2079. The room there is preferred, as are all of the suites.

DH really wants to split our stay and spend 5 nights at POR with our friends, then hop to Music. I don't mind resort hopping, but I feel like we have this PIN code and can get a decent deal we should use it. Of course if WDW has a great sale for our dates and it includes POR, then my theory of using said PIN will be thrown out the window ;)

My other hesitation using a non-preferred room is the amount of walking outside the parks. I had a severe case of lyme last fall and was crippled for months. It was so severe it would take me 30 minutes and an extreme amount of agony to get out of the bed in the morning. I could barely walk etc. They tapped 100 ml of fluid from my knee. It was awful. We were actually planning on WDW last January and I cancelled and took a cruise instead. Anyway, I am much better, but this will be the first time since then I've done any amount of walking and I am slightly nervous how my body may react. I should start walking now to build up my stamina :)

I spoke at length with our friends and tried to talk them into a suite and they said absolutely not. They love POR and to them that is home. I don't have any strong feelings one way or another except what I've mentioned. Their response was to "Do what's best for your family".

I am not against a split stay, but to me, it would make much more sense if we stayed at Music first when we went to the parks hard, then slowed down once we moved to POR and could enjoy the resort more. But maybe not, thoughts on that?! My other thought was to try and book at POFQ, to take advantage of the smaller resort(less walking) and be right next door to our friends, then either stay put or split our stay. I will take any advice, criticism, or anything that might help me decide. Also, if our families stay at 2 different resorts, how likely is it that we would spend time together?! We could meet up in the parks. See, this is why I am having such troubles Argh! LOL.

I love POR but I'd take pin code for CSR. What is discount %. Is POFQ listed in Pin code? At POR they have great room assignors, we never book preferred. I fax them 4-5 days before arrival. Our last stay I told them I was recovering from knee surgery and was assigned a great room close to elevator and close to foot bridge over to lobby.

But at Wdw, I really wouldn't worry about if you're at the same resort. Apparently your friends aren't. With cell phones and planning, it's very easy to meet up. My daughter & I go, & meet up with 2 friends. one friend of mine stays at same same resort, the other usually stays at Pop, but we plan our trips together, we are connected on MDE as family & friends so make FPs together, and it's super easy to meet up. The night before we arrange what time to meet at front of park and with cell phones, it's easy to find one another.

I would go with CSR one because you've already stayed at POR and I'm all about trying out different resorts and two you can't beat that price. If you go with the split stay, I'd definitely go with the value first, bumping down instead of up is a little disappointing. The only thing you would be missing out doing with your friends by not staying at the same resort is pool time since you can't pool hop (unless you are at POFQ they share pools with POR). I don't know how close you are with these friends but I would think you both would want some family alone time instead of being together all the time any way. I would go ahead and plan my trip for my family but add in a few moments, maybe a morning or afternoon here and there that ya'll can get together since it sounds like it was a coincidence that you are both going at the same time not planned.

That is great to know! No PIN for FQ and I'm not sure what the discount is, but it's an average of 156/night.

That was I was saying to my DH. I would be afraid of "too much" together time. Thanks for the input! It is also a savings of $591, which is a good amount!

I'd check out FQ! If the pin gets you a decent discount on that, then go with that! I LOVE FQ, based off price, bus service, room size, food, size of the resort, and bonus amenities, it get's my #1 resort stamp. Lol.

I also have to say: vacation is a time where you are SURROUNDED by the people you go with 24/7, esp if you're at the same resort. I have friends that I LOVE dearly at home, or even had lived with, that on vacation, I'm about ready to slap them out of sheer annoyance, sleep deprivation, or being hangry lol. If you're seeing them in the parks all/most of the day already, it might be nice to be able to say "goodnight" at the end of the night. Or to be at Port Orleans and hang out for a drink or a swim and then head back to your separate resorts. If you're at the same resorts, I could see you spending less time in the parks together.

Also with CSR, be aware that it's HUGE, if you might have trouble/pain walking long distances after being in the parks it could be a problem! The busses do go around the whole resort, but to get from your standard room to the front desk/food court/main bus stop/gift shop can be a long walk, followed potentially by a long walk back!

I would book the CSR room and then start calling every day to see if POR is available. I have always had luck after about the 3rd or 4th call. (Maybe they get tired of me calling.) I have also had up to 3 reservations while we decide which one works best for us. Go ahead and book something with your pin.

It is your vacation and and sounds like you should celebrate being better. Have fun planning!!!

We're there at the same time. Fall discounts have been out for a while, but that time period falls in a blackout period for both free dining and the general RO discount.

I agree with some of the PPs. Use the pin offer. Request a cabanas room at CSR (even though it's only a request). Staying at a different resort might actually save your friendship.

Use your PIN! I agree with Minnie Mum that you may not remain friends after the trip with TOO much together time. A little separation is a good thing. Plenty of time and places to spend time with them.

We had POFQ booked without a discount but then I was able to get a discount at CSR and we switched. I was really hesitant about it because of the size but my friend said that I was never an issue. We saved $350 by switching which almost covers the cost of MNSSHP.

I would stay at CSR with the discount. We have visited WDW twice the same time as friends, and it works very well for us to be at separate resorts.

I agree with everyone...use your PIN. You could make some dining reservations with your friends.

It's fun to meet up with other families, but better to not plan ALL your time together. Imagine if you are a rope drop family and they are stragglers?!

If POFQ is cheaper than CSR, I'd stay there. You'd still have some distance from friends. CSR seems way too spread out

This is all very helpful! All of the discounts that I have seen(other than free dining) end on November 5th which is the day we arrive. So, I am checking daily, and multiple times a day to see if anything on my PIN opens or if a new sale has been added.
