I have a PIN code for this fall and it works for our dates (yay!). We just so happened to mention to good friends of our that we were planning a trip. Guess what?! They will be down the same time frame. They are driving(us flying) and we stay an extra 3 days at the end. They are 5(2Ad and 3 kids) and we are 2 & 2.
So, now that you know the basic background, we are trying to book a resort. I say trying because our trip begins Nov 5th so the deals for our dates, assuming there will be some, are not out yet. Because they are 5, they always stay at POR. I have stayed there before and really like it! But, of course, my PIN code shows no available rooms, and without the PIN there are only standard rooms(not preferred) and the cost is $2352 for 11 nights.
The PIN is good for CSR a standard room and the cost there is $1759 same length. Our other option is a family suite at ASM and the total is $2079. The room there is preferred, as are all of the suites.
DH really wants to split our stay and spend 5 nights at POR with our friends, then hop to Music. I don't mind resort hopping, but I feel like we have this PIN code and can get a decent deal we should use it. Of course if WDW has a great sale for our dates and it includes POR, then my theory of using said PIN will be thrown out the window
My other hesitation using a non-preferred room is the amount of walking outside the parks. I had a severe case of lyme last fall and was crippled for months. It was so severe it would take me 30 minutes and an extreme amount of agony to get out of the bed in the morning. I could barely walk etc. They tapped 100 ml of fluid from my knee. It was awful. We were actually planning on WDW last January and I cancelled and took a cruise instead. Anyway, I am much better, but this will be the first time since then I've done any amount of walking and I am slightly nervous how my body may react. I should start walking now to build up my stamina
I spoke at length with our friends and tried to talk them into a suite and they said absolutely not. They love POR and to them that is home. I don't have any strong feelings one way or another except what I've mentioned. Their response was to "Do what's best for your family".
I am not against a split stay, but to me, it would make much more sense if we stayed at Music first when we went to the parks hard, then slowed down once we moved to POR and could enjoy the resort more. But maybe not, thoughts on that?! My other thought was to try and book at POFQ, to take advantage of the smaller resort(less walking) and be right next door to our friends, then either stay put or split our stay. I will take any advice, criticism, or anything that might help me decide. Also, if our families stay at 2 different resorts, how likely is it that we would spend time together?! We could meet up in the parks. See, this is why I am having such troubles Argh! LOL.
