I was told that I no longer have to let my mom or DH know when I get to work or when I will be late getting home. How do they know I will not get kidnapped? That is my biggest fear ending up on the missing person list.

I go to work and drive myself home every day and have done so for decades. I haven't been kidnapped yet.

Get yourself a cell phone and call before you get into work and since I am sure you will know when you will work late, go to the ladies room and call home. Sounds childish to me, but I am assuming you are using your employers phone after work hours have started.

Also, you may want to talk to someone about your fears of being kidnapped. It is more likely you would break down in the car than be abducted.

Well, you have every right to feel that way. Just look at the statistics!

Every 40 seconds in the United States, a child is reported missing or abducted. That translates to over 2000 children per day (under 18 years of age) or 800000 per year.

I think since you are an adult, your chances aren't quite this high.

People that you see all the time (ie daily) know about when to expect you. If you don't show up, they will come looking for you. Don't worry.

You are an adult, you don't need to call that often. I would say a call to let your husband know that you are working over is acceptable though.

I hate to burst every ones bubble it is not a joke but I am glad all I have to worry about is getting on the missing person list or getting killed on the way to work

OP, I've worked in NYC for over 20 years now. I've survived 2 attacks on the WTC (working in the buildings during both attacks). I've used public transit every day to get to the office. Not kidnapped yet.
Seriously, I would see someone about your fears. This seems a tad irrational. I'm not trying to be mean even though it might seem that way.

My DH does like to know when I'm coming home so that he can plan dinner though.
