I am so offended

Our G.G leaves 3 weeks from today.. we are traveling with my mil, who had hip replacement last year. she still can't walk for long periods of time. she is bringing her rollator, so she has a seat when there is not one available. we have already told her if the walking is too much we will get her something motorized. i am very sure that she will get looks and comments, because she can get up and walk in to stores and get on rides. but, she is thick skinned and will probably comment back..
don't let some people put a damper on your vacation.. it's your trip and you deserve it, so enjoy it... negativity breeds more negativity.."think happy thoughts" hope you have a great time...

I work a full time job and am my feet most of eah day but the last 2 trips to Disney I found I still couldn't last as long as my younger counterparts did. This year I decided to get an ecv for energy conservation so that I can do all I want and last long enough to make it to things like illuminations without being miserable as I've been in the past.yes I'm overweight but I walk a lot in the day... But an average day in the parks can be 12 miles and I "run out of gas" at about 8 miles . It's an expensive trip not to enjoy it to the fullest and I plan to!!! To heck with stupid people who don't understand.to have a pain Free vacation without exhaustion is more important to me than their stupidity in judgement.!!!!!!!

Hi,
My family had a rude experience as well! We were leaving MK one night. My DD is 16 and uses a wheelchair fulltime. She can not walk or stand, completely dependent of her Dad for lifting.
My family DH,ME,DD 20,DD 16 and DS10. We waited in the lane marked for wheelchairs. When we did a lady in a loud voice gave her comments about people not waiting in line and their families! We had no problem waiting BUT the driver flagged us to board. My DH went with her Me and DS waited to board he asked us to board as a family! This made the lady go off BIG time. The entire ride to CBR she bad mouthed wheelchair people! I remained the bigger person and ignored her. It was hard it really upset me because my DD heard her comments. When the lady got off at her stop she said "BYE WHEELCHAIR!!" in a very LOUD voice!:confused3: I so wanted to tell her my DD has a beautiful name its Shavonne!A beautiful name for beautiful person! She does not pass judgement and always remains polite! She is also kind and caring! I could go on and on!!! My DD 2o is now a special Ed. teacher as well!I believe Shavonne has made us a different family! Thanks for reading!

of people let this go on. I wouldn't start a battle or a war, but I sure would say something to this person.

I'm glad you were able to deal with such a person and that you took the high road. Kudos for you.

Thank you!!!! I was leading by example for the sake of my "kids"! I did want to give her my 2 cents!!!!:)

I realise that OP is (hopefully) gone enjoying a wonderful trip, but I have to say something about this subject.

There are many times when I read something here which irks me, annoys me, or bothers me for days. It happened again to me recently, and I must remind myself sometimes that the words of most of the readers here really mean nothing in the greater scheme of things.

Honestly, I don't know the vast majority of posters in real life, I don't know the majority by their online persona, and I really value the opinion of only a select few people here. The people who mean something to me here have a connection to me outside of just this website and I value their opinions, even when we don't agree. The vast majority of our discussions are offline, via PM, via email, or in person, not on a public message board.

I will admit that sometimes I let things bother me here too, but I really don't care anymore when someone makes an ignorant remark about me, my culture, my choice of fashion, or anything else which identifies me as an individual. Those comments say more about those people than they say about me. The people who do know me here, elsewhere, and in real life I believe choose my company because they value my individuality, just as I choose their company for similar reasons.

So difficult as it is for any of us to hear such rot about ourselves, or our loved ones, or our people, sometimes it doesn't make sense to take those comments to heart. I will try and educate people when I can, to a certain extent, but I have more important things in real life which need my energy.

That is my opinion on things, and I may need to be reminded of that every so often, and I don't expect everyone else to agree. But I have wasted far too much time and energy defending things in cyberspace which shouldn't need defending, and should be concentrating that energy on real things in the real world.

I'm hurt by the people who say children with autism are just spoiled. Sad.

We get this comment all of the time but choose to ignore it. So many people just don't understand. I am sure that it is because autism isn't a "visible" disability and that these kids look just like the "neuro-typical" kids. I am sure that this is why we get looks from other guests when we use the alternate entrance on rides. One lady even went so far as to start yelling at us from her spot in line saying things like "What, you think you are going in before us, we have been waiting here for an hour. You think you are special. Etc..." We just ignored her and the CM working made sure we went in before this lady. I am sure that she heard the rude comments being made and wanted to make sure my son didn't hear them. Thank goodness he doesn't really pay attention to strangers and what they are saying!

To the OP, don't let what other say bother you, just enjoy yourself. You can't change the mind of someone who is ignorant.
