I have been calling for weeks for a reservation at Le Cellier for 2 adults for anytime (lunch or dinner) for Jan. 15, 16, or 17. No availability!!! I decided to ask the CM on the phone just now about a reservation on those same days for either 3 or 4 people. He said "which day would you prefer and do you want lunch or dinner"???? WHAT!!!! They will seat either 3 or 4 people but 2 is not good enough. I can't believe that they would rather have an empty table sitting there that to have 2 adults sitting at it!!!

I've run into the same thing. We were at the lobby concierge at the Beach Club trying to make dinner reservations within the resort because it was pouring outside. Nothing was available for two, but the CM fortunately knew to try for a reservation for three at the Captain's Grill. When we got there, the place was EMPTY. The only thing we can figure is that the tables in that restaurant all seat four and the system won't seat two at a table for four.

Yes, this is quite normal and can be quite a hot topic on these boards.

I know. It's absolutely ridiculous. Based on other posts I have read it sounds like Le Cellier has like 1 table for two or something. We always make our ADR's for two and I'd say we are actually seated at a table for four at least half the time. (Across all Disney restaurants.) Definitely should be a better way.

I think I've actually heard on a few podcasts that for ADR's to restaurants that can be hard to get for 2 people, to just try 3 and it'll make it easier. then when you're there you tell the host/hostess that you'd like to change it to 2.

Fortunately there's 3 in my family, so I'm not in that boat.

Sorry to hear about your frustrations.

this is a serious falw in their system. They book to the size of the table, literally.

I always try for 2 then ask what is available for a party of 3. Tried making breakfast ressies at kona in septe, mber (while we were at bc) and for 2 nothing until 9:30. For 3? pick a time any time - literally :sad2:

I can work with this. Sorry you got stuck in it :(

I had the same problem when I tried to book the castle. It became like the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm while I kept saying "you have a table for 4, but not a table for 2? But wouldn't 2 people fit at the table for 4?"

The same thing has happened to me! We have been
trying for a table for 2 (either lunch or dinner) for Jan.
21, 22, or 23. Hmmm......I think I'm mad too!

So is it 'acceptable' to make an ADR for 3 when you really know that there will only be 2 of you? :confused3

I did it for a few of my ADRs for my trip next month. Actually the CM I talked to at WDW-DINE suggested it to me-- she told me to tell the hostess at the restaurant that one of the people in my party was ill! :confused3

I would if I was unable to get an ADR for a restaurnat that I have been unable to get an ADR at. Its just silly.

I have one for you, I tried to make reservations for Sci Fi for 5 and they told me they didn't have a 5 top for dinner and only had 2:45pm and two 3:00pm hour reservations available for only five. This was 60 days out, and it did appear they had tables for 6 (most of the cars hold six), just would only give us one for the bad times.

I'm thinking they don't like it when you do that. We had ADRs last year at Le Ceiller as party of 6. Somehow they had us down as a party of 8, and when we said we were only 6, the hostess gave us a really nasty look. My ADRs were made thru Dreams Unlimited, so I'm not sure how they ended up with us down as a family of 8.:confused3

I could understand them not letting you book a larger table if the restaurant was near capacity. But it also seems silly to leave a table empty, instead of using it, even if it is for a smaller group.

For the poster who had the problem with CRT, it is easy understand why they wouldn't let you book. CRT rarely has any empty tables, and they would much rather charge 3 or 4 people those high prices to eat there than just 2.

I hope you made reservations for 4. I hope you get a nice meal, seems like they make you work for it!

I couldn't get an ADR for 4 on short notice, but the awesome dining CM I spoke to last month booked us 2 tables of 2, with ADRs 5 minutes apart at 50s Prime Time. This was for New Year's Eve and I didn't call until the 2nd week of December when we decided to stay that day!

Of course, when we got to the restaurant, it was no problem -- not only did they put us at a 4-top, but we were seated in less than 10 minutes after arrival -- probably at exactly our ADR time.

They can often do things at the podium that the dining CMs on the phone can't.

Yeah I have a Le Cellier res for 3 for our trip. I made it just after I booked the trip in NOV, thinking we'd take our 5 y.o. DS. Turns out he'd rather spend some time at a Kids Club. From reading here I know to not try to bother downgrading our ressie from 3 people to 2. I'll just let them know when we check in. :confused3

This policy also causes problems for me since i travel solo. The breaker for me is when i walked up to LeCellar 2 yrs ago to see if they any openings. At ealry lunch time I was told they were sold out for the entire day. While getting on the phone to reservation a group of 3 did the walk up thing & got seated. I also tried to get a walk in table at flying fish. I was offered a seat at the shoulder to shoulder counter but they would not give me a 2 person table even though the place wasnt full. Ive since changed to mostly table service to avoid the hassel and always eat in Germany since many tables always end up with odd #s of people. It takes away from my vacation & from what disney sells. Its been 2 yrs since my last trip & will probably wait another yr. This is after going 5 yrs straight.

I always travel in a party of 2 (DD and myself) and we are often seated at tables for 4. I've never had trouble making ADRs, as we don't tend to eat at the popular places, but I've noticed the table situation many times.

when I worked at CRT, making ressies, our trainers/managers told us to just type in for 3 when it was a 2 on a 4-top....

I would just say you have 3 people. You have just as much right to eat there as a party of 3 or 4. If there are multiple available times for that party size, I see nothing wrong in doing it.
