We purchased our airline tickets back in June for our October trip, today I checked and the price has gone down by $110 per ticket for all flights except for my return flight. Thats $440!! I called the airline and they will be happy to change the flight to get the cheaper rate but will charge me $100 per ticket to do this-GRRRRRR- What happend to buy early and expect to pay more the closer your date got, I could leave next week and get a better rate. Sorry for venting but this has me steaming!!

airline prices are affected by the need to fill seats, the way they have been since the attack on America. - it could have just as easily gone the other way.

I understand your frustration. I am an earlier planner and booker! I booked my April 2001 trip in October 2000 ~ I bought everything 6 months before. I know I paid more than I needed to but I was assured everything that I wanted and we had a wonderful time! I will still plan and book early this year too and I know deals will come out, but not to fret, Disney is worth it!

I'm not sure what airlines you are dealing with but I'd call back and ask to talk to a supervisor. In August, my sister purchased tickets to Orlando from Pittsburgh and within a week the price had gone down about 40 dollars per tickt. She called and they didn't give her a refund but they did issue her vouchers for a future flight. This was US Airways.

That said, I also had a similar transaction recently. My husband and I had booked trips to Las Vegas for October. Because of the travails of the airlines, they cancelled and "rescheduled" our return flight for over 12 hours earlier. When I first called to complain, the women on the line told me that there was nothing she could do except fly me through Houston Texas to get back on a later flight. I told her that I did not wish to go through Texas to get back to PA. She then told me again that there was nothing she could do except if I wanted to change, I would have to pay the $100 change fee. By the way I forgot to mention I booked these in May. I asked to speak to her manager. I was very polite and explained to him that this was not an acceptable situation. He agreed to cancel my ressies and let me rebook at a later date without any change fee. He also said that I could use the "credit" of the purchased ticket against a similar fare flight to even a different destination. He then said that if the new fare was lower, I would get a refund of the difference. This was Continental Airlines.

I know this is a long reply but I just want to point out one thing. NEVER TAKE A "NO" ANSWER FROM SOMEONE WHO DIDN'T HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO TELL YOU "YES" TO BEGIN WITH. Call back and ask to talk to a supervisor.

Hi adams66!!! Thanks for sharing your experiences. I hope that everyone can have the success that you did dealing with the airlines!
Also wanted to give a special "Hi" to someone from Cochranton! I grew up in Meadville! :) So glad to see you posting on the DIS! :)

I too would call and ask to talk to a supervisor. I did this a week ago, with UA and a very nice agent told me that his supervisor said that they would refund my tickets and I could purchase what I wanted. These were non-refundable tickets with a $100.00 change fee, and they still refunded me!! I did not expect that, I thought they might give me a credit for a future trip so I was thrilled!!!

Good Luck!!!

:)
