Please bare with me I am still new to DVC. But if I rented points before joining, now that I am a member, how can I get them transfed to me? Before we bought in we rented points and I don't want to go back on the deal and leave the fellow owner looking to rent out the points again. So I thought that maybe we could just transfer the points. That way I wouldn't have to bug him for any changes. However the reservation are for BWV, and we own at SSR. So would we lose those reservation if we transfered the points to me? Or would they stay the same? I am so confused. I wanted to get some more information before I approched him with the idea. Thanks for any help.

There's a good chance you wouldn't be able to transfer the points. But it is possibly depending on specifics. The points used for the reservation would need to be current use year, not banked or borrowed, and the owner would have to be willing to transfer to you. They would also need to have no transfers in or planned for the use year in question. You should simply ask them if you cancelled, would the points be able to be transferred. My guess would be there is a slim chance of this working out for you but you never know.

You would probably lose the reservation - the other member cannot transfer control of the existing reservation to you. All he/she could do is cancel the reservation and then transfer the points to you. If there is still availability for the dates and unit size/ category yu want, you could make a new reservation with the transferred points.

However, depending on what dates we are talking about, there may be waitlists for some or all of the dates.

FWIW, I'd just keep things the way they are.

Best wishes -

p.s. If you back out, you'll probably just lose your $$, depending on the agreement you have with the owner. Most consider renting to be a non-refundable transaction.

I was worried about losing the reservations. He said he had no problem with a transfer, and if I really wanted to we could cancel the whole deal, but really didn't think that would be the right thing to do after all the work he went through to get me the reservations. It wasn't his fault I fell in love with the DVC! Thanks for the help.

It's an automatic that you will lose the existing reservation. You may be able to get it back though on your side. Check availability for BWV for when you want. If it's available, make the reservation then have the points transferred to you. Just make sure with the other member that the points are indeed eligible for transfer.
