So I am new to this wedding planning thing and have been looking around online at different sites and thought I would check out The Knot. Well I happened upon the message boards and some of those girls are vicious. I mean they were down right rude, mean and inconsiderate. I guess I am spoiled, but I am used to the DIS where everyone respects everyone (for the most part :cutie:) and there is not a gang mentalitly. Am I the only one that feels this way? I am sure there are some great posters over there, but I have to say I doubt I will find myself back in that neighborhood. Sorry so long, I was just shocked by the responses I read.

i'm not a fan either :( i had to travel over ther the other day for possible venues for our "at home" reception. i like things over here better :cutie:

Many wedding vendors are of the opinion that WeddingWire.com has surpassed the Knot in terms of, well, just about everything... so you are not alone! :)

I wasn't a big fan, I also found their wedding website difficult to navigate since there was always video streaming and it would take forever to load the forums.

I really liked Project Wedding for ideas. There are tons of pictures and the girls over there are all pretty nice too. That was my main non-Disney planning website.

The Knot scares me too! I have gotten a couple ideas off there, but otherwise it is the same people attacking everyone else on (mostly) etiquette. There is NO way I would post on those boards even if I wanted to. I tend to go to the destination wedding forum site for ideas (since I am having a DW) but otherwise prefer my DIS boards- everyone here is so wonderful and supportive!

I once read a Knot article about wedding-themed songs to listen to the morning of the wedding, and someone had left a comment saying she was going to "throw up" if she had to listen to any of those "girly, wedding songs". I just thought, really? Throw up? A little too much snark over there for me :hippie:

I don't really use the Knot either. I do enjoy Wedding Bee although I have just recently started posting there, but I lurked there for a long time.

I just went over there because of this thead as i've always forgotten about it (its not a big thing over here in the UK), but the VERY FIRST post I went into was some girl *****ing about people posting on old posts and it mess's HER way of viewing things ..... very selfish and childish people over there .... let them stay there and be nasty together imo!!!

I would rather pull my teeth and hair out then go over there and mess with that site. I found it really hard to get around, plus its a bunch of bridezillas. No thanks, I will stick my with Disboards family!:thumbsup2

oh gawd, stay away from the knot. mean mean mean girls over there. the only other wedding board i frequent aside from this one is wedding bee.

So funny, on here for a possible VR, but when I planned my weddding for 11/02 The Knot was amazing. There were a few rude people, but in general, it was really helpful and the girls were great. We even had local knottie meetups to meet each other, share ideas, pictures, etc.

Funny how things change.

I don't go to the knot but I have heard that. The only non Disney wedding board I frequent is wedding bee.

There are some really nasty people on the internet, and for some reason weddings bring out the crazy in people. I hadn't thought to check other forums though, I've found everything I need (and more!) right here. You ladies have all been so helpful :)

I really can't stand those boards. I have always found some way to get offended over there. Just stay away!

When I was first getting excited about planning before we had decided on a DFTW wedding, I downloaded an app for my iphone that was wedding911 for the Knot. I go on there sometimes, and was at first trying to talk to some people because I actually found some getting married at Disney. Ever since I started, I look now and they have 'troll nights' or are just completely rude to other brides and make them feel worse than they already do. I would not recommend it to ANYONE. I feel much more welcome on here! :)

DIS boards is the best, of course, but if your style is at all "offbeat", I really suggest joining the Offbeatbride.com Tribe. It is a private site so no trolls, and everyone is SUPER supportive and awesome.

When I planned my own wedding, I found theknot.com boards to be extremely helpful. While WeddingWire, etc, are good, they don't separate by area, so it is hard to find specific info on vendors.

I have many, many brides from theknot.com and they are all very sweet! :) So don't discount all the Florida ladies. The Central Florida and South Florida boards seem to be very helpful to my clients.

The "national" non-area-specific boards take a thick skin to post there!

I am currently planning my December wedding (not a DFTW but we are going to WDW for our honeymoon) and have used the Knot for resources - some of their articles and pictures are good, and as a starting place for vendors. I looked at the boards a bit, but the posters tend to be snarky to say the least.

I belong to the Knot but I only go on my state board. The girls are really nice on that board and I've gotten some ideas. I've lurked on other Knot boards, and you're right, the girls are just down right nasty. Guess it depends on what board you look at, but I like it here better, too!
