on a TV show today the subject was whirlpools( as in ocean, not tub) and a notorious one is off the coast of Norway...another name for whirlpool is malestrom so i thought hmm so the Malestrom is a boat ride and you get caught in a whirlpool when you go in the backwards thing? or am i reading to much into this ( although knowing disney research......)
anyone know if this is correct or the story behind Malestrom?

Concept and design
The Maelstrom attraction was always conceived to be a boat ride, with a section that went backwards. The ride's plotline was originally going to be entirely centered around trolls, but the Norwegian sponsors wanted a ride that included other aspects of Norway. [1]
