I am pi**ed

One trick worth trying is to clear your cookies and look at the price again. I heard (?I think it was on the news) that the travel site computers "watch" how many times you log on and look at specific flights etc and then if you keep checking the same ones they raise the price. It has saved me a lot of money on some flights and hasn't worked on others, but something so simple might be worth a try

At least they tell you when their sale is going to end! Damn qantas, I'm sour on them now, they will need to have an absolutely awesome sale if I'm ever to fly with them again.

The specials do sell out really fast in my experience, they don't special all remaining seats on a plane, the special may have applied to 8 or 10 seats each flight only and can sell out in a matter of hours. They will usually email the frequent flyers prior to making the special public, sometimes there are just FF specials only.

My advice is if you ever see a good special book it straight away, don't delay or you will miss out. I am with you on getting the best deals direct, the best specials for any given flight is ususally six months out, there is usually another round of specials in March which can be better than the New Year sales so depending on when you travel you may still get a good rate. I believe with this economic downtown and falling fuel prices the fares will get lower.
