I am part of the problem with high resort rates

I keep saying that Disney is out pricing what I want to pay. Yeah I keep booking at increased costs trip after trip. (in non-pandemic times we go three times a year two of those are eight day trips and usually a quick getaway in the winter for four days) I am frustrated paying Increased costs as services decrease. Yet I can’t bring myself to stay out of the bubble. As I’m packing for our beach club stay, I’m excited that someone gave the hint to take some trash bags so is your trash overflows in your room you have somewhere to put it. ( thank you to the person that suggested this it was a great tip). And as I’m putting garbage bags in my list of packing items I’m thinking this is insane to pay almost $500 for a night in a room and I’m bringing garbage bags. Yet won’t stop staying on site. I’m not sure of the point of this thread I just wanted to vent a little I’m sorry.

Totally get it.

I'm really hoping we like Gran Destino this visit as I think we've finally reached the limit of what we will pay for deluxe hotels.

I'm right there with you (and adding trash bags to my packing list). My preference is always on-site but I have booked the Swan for stays later this year. I ADORE the Yacht Club but when the price differential gets to be $200+ a night, it's getting harder to justify to myself.

I don’t say this to deter your excitement or wish you a bad experience with the dolphin. We tried that last year when the parks re-opened since you couldn’t really park hop And we knew it wouldn’t be a resort heavy trip. Now I will say the friendship boats weren’t running, and they weren’t using Disney transportation to the parks. We said never again. We had a great rate we couldn’t pass up, I think they were doing $200 a night for annual passholders, but we did say never again. It just wasn’t a great experience I felt like I was at a holiday inn along the highway if that makes any sense. Again I’m hoping you have a wonderful experience just sharing mine for you

Same, just back and we swapped out of the Dolphin after 1 night. I would not pay any amount of money to stay there again.

I dunno, our trash was taken out daily when they did room checks, I've stayed on property 6 times now with multiple split stays between DVC and Deluxe (twice staying on rented points, the rest on cash). Even on the rented points they took out our trash when they did the room check, I even watched them at OKW because I was sitting there reading a book when they did it. I have thankfully not been priced out yet, and have still found lots of discounts so I haven't paid more than usual. I usually go arond 6-7 times a year which is what I'm doing this year, from August-August I will have been 7 times, and while it's not the same I understand why at the moment. Will the whole every other day cleaning thing fly after another year? Absolutely not, it needs to change soon, but as of right now I'm still fine with adding to the problem (and I won't be packing trash bags, because even with a family of 4 our trash has still been removed daily and we've been fine at every resort).

So glad we bought DVC when we did (about 15 years ago.) There's no way we'd spend several hundred dollars a night for our WDW trips. Of course we had a large initial expenditure, plus some add-on contracts, so we basically paid our resort costs in advance.

I have the Dolphin for 159.00 - 199.00 a night including fees (parking not in price) for a a four night stay in July. I was there in March, and had a wonderful time/ experience. It’s not the same as on property, and I do miss that, but I can’t pass up these prices. We are doing one night at GF to rope drop, and I’m spending close to 700.00 in total. I’ll stay on property again for sure, but I’m trying this split stay to see if I get the best of both worlds without breaking the bank.

We were there before and liked it. This time there was a huge huge convention of poorly behaved children that made the difference- they were literally in the Dolphin fountain, shouting off balconies to other rooms at midnight, trashing the hallways, 10 minute wait for an elevator. You will have a magical time since they are gone :)

 There is a convention when I’m there. Hopefully it will be better. Thanks for the update!

I’m always wishy washy with my resort decisions. Maybe it’s just me, but 8 out if 10 times, I end up back on property at a deluxe. I’m guessing that’s why I’m part of the problem also 😂

Is there somewhere to check and see what, if any, conventions will be there?

We are normally a moderate resort family. Deluxe and Value a few times which the Deluxe was lovely. But that lovely comes at a cost. For us we prefer longer stays. Our longer stay was 11 nights. The next trip is 9 nights. We prefer staying longer at a moderate then shorter at a deluxe but have done many split stays so we can enjoy them all.

Agree with another poster - with our kid getting older we aren't going as often but will always be on our rotation.

I tried to add a room at the beginning of my stay, and the price was outrageous. I called the Marriott direct, and a woman said she was shocked at the prices. She looked into it, and said yes, there was some type of convention that booked a lot of rooms. She didn’t say what type or anything. That’s why the leftover rooms are so high. Supply and demand. I just checked rooms for 20th Cheapest with AAA is 1,031. They are large, but the same room in April was around 400.
So, if you see something similar happening while looking into a stay, it could be a convention. You may able to just call and ask too.

Minimal housekeeping may be here to stay. Hilton has moved to ‘on demand’ housekeeping for its non-luxury brands. If you don’t call down to the front desk you only get housekeeping on the 5th day. If the industry as a whole moves in that direction then Disney will not bring it back.

I am currently in a Westin and housekeeping is every third day. Hotels are having the same problem every other business is having, not enough staff and they can't hire more. No one wants to work these jobs, especially with the extra government money to sit on your keister.

We have spent 4 weeks at the poly and boardwalk in the last year. Never had our trash to overflow. Someone came and got it every single day. I am not sure I would be worrying about overflowing trash unless your family produces a ton of trash.

My husband and I do not produce a lot of trash, we have no children so it’s just us and we are very clean people. At home I take the garbage out every day. Even though my family does not produce a ton of trash we just like things clean.
