I was told by the state of Mass, that I couldn't get my own BC!!! Not sure exactly what I was supposed to do, but thank goodness my Mom was still around (still is!) and SHE could get it for me.
When the gal told me I wasn't allowed to get it, because of sealed records and all, I was stunned speechless......and called my Mom crying! So much for being a grownup after 40 years!!![]()

FYI -- anyone who finds they need their birth certificate and do not live in the state they were born, go to vitalchek.com. You can get a birth certificate for any state in the country and they also offer overnight service.
We live in NJ and I got my husband's Tennessee and my Florida birth certificates through them.

Folks...this is just another example of why everyone really should invest in getting passports....travel outside of the U.S. is becoming more strict and all indications are that passports will be the only acceptable form of I.D. in the future. Many islands that only required BC before are now requiring passports. Even when I travel within the U.S. I still carry my passport to use for photo I.D. for flights.
I agree that they are a chunk of money to layout for the average family...but well worth it if you are doing any kind of traveling outside the U.S. Adult passports are good for 10 years and children's are good for 5 years.
KarenB...so glad it worked out for you...relax and enjoy your cruise!!!

Now back to making packing lists...

We will, however, be sure to get them for next year's Mexican Riviera cruises, but we can plan better for that much of a chunk of money with a little more time to save.

You should be aware that if you get your 14 and 16-year-olds done now, it would only cost like $25 or something like that. That's what happened with my DD, we waited a year too long and now she falls into the other category. 16 and under is MUCH cheaper to get. Even tough they only last 5 years, you would be saving over $100 between the two of them. Might be worth a look into.
