I am NOT staying at a value resort

I stayed deluxe in Feb and am departing today from a value stay. I had no issue with noise at either hotel. House keeping at the value was far superior to the deluxe. The food court at the value was very nice. It was very lacking at the deluxe. We had no issues with transportation at either resort. Walking to Epcot was amazing from the deluxe. I have stayed all levels and have favorite hotels at each level but not a favorite level. There are values I would choose over some mods and deluxes.

My personal preference is to stay in studios or 1 bedrooms, just for the space. DH is ALL about personal space, so staying at Values (which we have done before) is just not for us. We stayed for 2 nights at ASMovies (before moving over to Coronado Springs) and the room was WAY too small for us. Since our kids are now older, we spend less time at the parks and more time at the resorts, so the added space and the balcony areas are used far more. The themes at the values are very cute and our kids loved it, but we just needed more space.

I haven't read the entire 4 pages...I pretty much know what's being said. So....get the OP excited about a value? Don't know if that's going to happen. Seems to be pretty negative about them at this point!
I own DVC...BWV and BLT. I love my villa stays. But, I've stayed at almost all the resorts...not GF yet, or POFQ. I've yet to stay in Movies and Sports, but have stayed in Music...since they're pretty much the same, I can say I've stayed in the All Stars (and staying in Movies in two weeks and then again in Nov).
Yes, the values are smaller and not as 'nicely' themed. No table service restaurants. You get two double beds and a single vanity and a bit less room. I'm not staying there for 6 months...just a week or so!! I can deal with those things for a short period of time if it means I get to either 1. stay longer or 2. go more often!

Pop is my favorite value. If you don't want a longish walk, book a preferred room. That will put you closer to the food court and the buses.
But, with your feelings, I would be very tempted to book a moderate. I love POR...it's one of my favorite resorts. Rooms are a bit bigger, double vanities, the resort is nicely themed. Just very nice overall.

I'm also not a fan of Wilderness Lodge if that helps! :duck:
I'm sorry, what? You what? I can't even process that. Now we will have to throw down because you have the audacity to not like my favorite resort. Oh wait... that means one less person I have to worry about taking a room at Wilderness Lodge and increasing crowds... Hmmm... :upsidedow

One of the things I love about WDW is that you can get a hotel that is so beautifully themed that it can feel like its own vacation. If you really love Hawaii, Polynesian would likely be a great resort for you. If you love the comfort of the lodges int eh pacific northwest, look no further than Wilderness Lodge. If you love the idea of Coney Island back in its heyday, head over to Boardwalk. If you enjoy spending time in Cape Cod, Yacht Club could likely be great for you. If you love anything tropical and long to doze off in a hammock while steal drums play in the background, Caribbean Beach has your name written all over it. If you love Disney movies and want to completely surround yourself with Disney, look no further than All Star Movies or Art of Animation. Love the nostalgia of yesteryear and want to learn fun trivia about days gone by as you stroll the jogging trail? Pop Century! You get the idea. People like what they like and with so many options at WDW I see no reason why everyone shouldn't be able to find and book the resort that will bring them the most enjoyment. And, if a person doesn't particularly care for your favorite resort or even category of resort, who cares? Just means less competition to get the room you want and fewer people taking up lounge chairs at the pool for you. :thumbsup2

The WL does nothing for me. I have no desire to stay there. The theming isn't for me BUT everyone's LOVE (I had coworkers that went every year and raved about it) for it has me interested. If I ever get a good rate I would stay there. I mean it's close the MK so that in itself is enough for me.

It's my favorite just due to how relaxing I find the atmosphere. However, with all of the chopping down of the trees to make room for more DVC properties, I'm not sure how the theme is going to be affected. I always wanted a woods view. The first time, I was "upgraded" to a courtyard view because they were all out of woods views. The second time, construction had begun and I had a view of scrims painted like woods. Blah. I do think it is deserving of being the cheapest of the deluxe resorts because it doesn't have the convenience and/or amenities that other resorts have (walking to 2 parks at the Epcot resorts, monorail for the other MK resorts, animals at AKL). Anyway, I do love the theme but wish it was a bit more convenient. My husband and I agree that if Wilderness Lodge were located in the spot where Boardwalk is, we would never stay anywhere else.

you realize that if you don't stay at OKW (DVC) then you will have a queen bed and a double sleeper sofa - will that even work for you and your mother.

have stayed at all the DVC resorts at WDW (except GF - have no want too) - and love POP - but in Aug - it will be really, really hot.

that say Pop does have some great bus service.

now have not read all the posts - but if you don't like values then your visit would be painfully for you - that say you have to understand your brother's point of view - he can't afford to spend money on hotels.

really think Pop beats OKW on transportation. Pop has one bus stop - OKW has 5 stops - so you are behind before you even leave the resort.

I'm thankful for the value resorts-had it not been for our very first stay at ASMo I would have never known what it was like to stay at WDW. We chose that because of the price on our very first trip. At that time we didn't know that we were going to get sucked into the magic that is Disney. ASMo was like a dream come true for my DS who was 6 at the time and carried a Woody doll with him everywhere he went. It was clean, the grounds were neat, and we felt completely immersed in Disney. Next trip was POR and while it was nice, we had horrible bus experience and DH still won't return after all these years. We stayed at the Poly for many years until we felt like we could no longer justify the cost. CSR is where we have settled for now and we really love our stays there. We did stay at POP last January for one day before a cruise and while we did enjoy the food court, the beds and busses were enough to make DH say never again.

im sure there will be some who think I am being snotty, snobby or both but really I am not.

My brother has decided to take mom to Disneyworld in August - he still has a child in school so he has to go during her break. He is thinking that a value would be better for him cost wise since he will need 2 rooms.

I told him I would split the cost with him paying my portion and half of moms if he wanted to rent points and get a villa or mom could just stay with me in a studio on rented points.

He also thinks free dining will be offered August. 5-11 but I told him probably not that early in August.

I have stayed at BW, AKL, CB and POFQ. My favorite mod is POFQ and there will be no discount for it- but I would stay there and any rack rate but the Dvc resort room is roughly the same price.

I have read lots of posts on the values- smaller rooms, smaller beds, smaller vanity etc. I do enjoy a larger space and love room service but can you convince me to stay in a value resort and if so which one? I don't love a long walk to transportation from the room.

I have heard good things about Pop's food court !

Oh yeah and my SIL says they Don't spend much time in their room so they won't mind it. (They have not stayed in a value before either).

Please Tell me the positives- thanks

We are staying 7 days (they don't want a split stay but I would split a value and then deluxe

We've stayed at 2 values, 2 Moderates and 1 deluxe (3 times) DVC at deluxe (3 times), while yes, the deluxe's are much nicer and have good perks, there's really nothing wrong with the values. They work fine. I have found that as far as bus transportation goes, the values (especially Pop) is better than the moderates and deluxes (no sharing, no multiple stops). While there really is nothing wrong with the values, it sounds like you already have your mind made up that it's not what you want, so it'd probably be better for you to get your own room somewhere that you want and let your mom and brothers family stay where they want/can afford.

You're right about free dining, I highly doubt it'll be offered for those dates, but then again in was offered in July this year with the bounce back, so who knows, but def. not likely.

If you think you will be unhappy in a value then it's probably best not to stay in one. That's the great thing about a Disney vacation, lots of choices.

I truly do not understand what a lot of people say in this thread: Value at Disney is not comparable to value in many ways of the outside world... Deluxe at Disney is not comparable to the outside world either. All Disney resorts are clean, well run, have decent food available-stay deluxe pay for TS why would you expect different?, have nice pools, arcades, shops, and offer free transportation to the parks... I have not stayed in a value since college when the all stars were only a few years old also stayed off site.. working stayed in moderates than deluxe owned DVC since 2004 and who cares.... My wife and I took a trip to All stars when we had a car with my son (stopped at MCD's can not beat a burger and a toy disagree I do not care) he looked said where's the slide I will not stay here... I told him he will be lucky if he can AFFORD to stay here some day as many can not afford a trip to Disney period.... A vacation is what you and your family/friends make it no matter where you stay.... To down any hotel at any budget is simply using poor judgment... Enjoy what any level hotel has to offer and not comment on lack of (there is no lack of at any level at Disney) and you will be happy have a great trip and your money will be well spent... pay for a Deluxe expect to be treated like royalty you will have a bad trip and have wasted your money. 90% of the thongs mentioned here are the equal across all Disney resorts -- I will exclude small things such as better linens, fluffier towels and similar if that make or breaks you my suggestion is BYO as you will be sadly disappointed to find the deluxe quality is by no means deluxe....

As a nurse and mom of 4 kids, I know that sometimes there isn't much that can be done about a screaming 2 year old (especially if they are sick or in pain). I'm guessing they weren't too thrilled about it either and weren't purposely being rude or inconsiderate..

I don't believe that the child was sick. I think they just kept the poor thing out too late and the child was over tired. They were yelling at he/she to stop crying and you could hear them laughing and being really loud themselves. They also had the tv blaring. They were just plain rude!

I have twins and have been in a hotel when one of them got sick and was crabby and crying. I put them in a stroller and went to a common area. That night it took till almost 1am till they fell asleep but I did't disturb the rooms around us. I have missed many meals away from the table at a restaurant because my kids were too noisy (crying baby) or disruptive (typical toddler). If you child is sick, not using the best dining out manners or an infant that cries as they all do, if you are a considerate parent there is no reason to disturb others' sleep or dinners.

Any resort can be noisy. I try to avoid rooms that have connecting doors. I feel it is easier to hear others on the other side if there is a connecting door.

I've only stayed in values (All-Star Sports & Pop, contrary to popular opinion here I thought Sports was much better than Pop in both size and bus service) so I suppose I'm biased but I seriously think the people comparing values to a Motel 6 or equivalent are out of their minds. I've stayed in various Motel 6 like accommodations and they are much, much below what Disney's values offer. The values are bright, clean and reasonably sized for starters. Trust me, I've stayed in quite a few shady budget motels lol.

I'm sure the moderates are nicer though, it is just hard for me to justify the cost for something I deem to be a place to sleep, bath and get dressed.

I couldn't agree more with this. I lived in a 5 star hotel in India (business related) for 2 months. The room was a "club" room and cost an average of $300 USD/night - so much less than a standard room at a MK area deluxe. Everything about my hotel oozed luxury. I had a tv in the bathroom mirror, a pillow menu was provided, full marble bathroom, a bath salt menu, and tons of free food and drinks in the lounge -- which included a decadent afternoon tea everyday. The hotel (Taj Palace Mumbai in case you are ever in the area) is in a touristy area of the city and has amazing onsite restaurants, as well as luxury shopping inside the hotel (Louis Vuitton, Chanel, etc. ). And then I look at the prices of a "deluxe" in Disney and what little you get, and I just have to remind myself there's no comparison to Disney hotels and the real world.

We own Poly DVC, so obviously we too prefer deluxe, but are not against staying at values as well. Did a trip back in November, not enough points for a week, so booked a couple of nights at All Star Movies. I still love the cutesy kitschy Disney in your face themeing. Before becoming DVC members, spent many a memorable vacation while being booked into one of the value resorts. Pop is one of our favorites. AOA in one of the Cars suites is still on my bucket list of Disney resorts to try. Whichever route you decide to go, here's wishing you a truly magical vacation.:flower:

I think you can remove the word "hotel" from that. :rotfl: I don't know anyone who goes to Disney that want the "real world". LOL. We all seem to want to take the Disney world back to our "real world".

I am not the OP but I think all the post just talked me into trying POP! I have been at riverside, WL, AKL, and the Fort Wilderness cabins (). While I am planning on staying a couple of night at a delux (probable AKl) since i want non-park days, I now think the first part will be fine at the value especially since I know what to expect and it will save me $$.

See it is possible to talk someone who is a "no value resort!" into staying there.

For what it's worth, I preferred Sports over Pop, as well. Then again, I preferred Music, Movies, and especially AoA to Pop, so I'm just not a fan of Pop.

Like you we also have stayed at all levels and have favorites at each level and can honestly say the resort has never made any of our trips so much better. I believe the noise factor really depends on what type of neighbors you have, not the walls. If values had queen beds we would stay there more then we do now, I also agree with PP about the posters, who are saying their like a motel 6, as being totally wrong. I am very glad we are not resort snobs where we have to have a balcony or indoor hallway, this way we are not have to stay at a certain level. My DW and I just talked about how it's funny that at WDW we much prefer a room that opens to the outside then a hallway, but when we are traveling we always get an indoor hotel.

Sounds like you have a more open mind. I don't get that vibe from the OP at all.

I'd have to agree with you. Much cleaner and brighter and happier than a Motel 6. Everyone Motel 6 I've stayed at has been dirty and in a shady part of town. I usually smell people smoking funny things when I walk down the hall. Nothing like Disney. The room sizes are similar I guess, but much different in all other ways.

I just want to know where you stayed at a Motel 6....with a hall? pirate:

the few I have stayed at had a light on, but no hall....
