and planning a trip to WDW next fall (last week in Sept) for my three sons who will be 4, 6, 17 months. Am I crazy? :) I wanted to go then because of free dining and my sons school schedule but after reading some posts I wonder if I should avoid free dining like the plague?

Welcome, and No dont avoid free dining!!! Just make sure you have backup Table Service dining options just in case you dont get your first choices. And make sure you make your reservations at the 90 day mark. you'll have a blast. Im going this September and Im looking forward to it. my kids are 6 and 2!!!

You'll be fine! Besides, spring is crowded, Halloween is crowded, Christmas time is crowded.....

Lots of people won't go then because of school. The whole south has gone back to school by then.;)

If you haven't made your ADR's for table service meals yet- make them now!!!
Really, except for the fact that getting "walk up" seating is nearly impossible, it's a wonderful time to go! We try to go Sept. every year!

You're talking about September 2010, right? That's how I read your post. If you are talking about this coming September, then you might have some difficulty getting ADRs at the more desirable restaurants at this point. But for September 2010, just make sure to make your ADRs at the 90 day mark. I was there last September and the parks were not busy at all. Restaurants were packed, but I'd made my ADRs at the 180 day mark (back when that was possible) and we were fine. It's a great time to go.

Thanks for the replies. I actually took my sister to WDW in 2000 in Sept and it seemed like a good time except that it was HOT!! I remember I did not research and knew nothing about WDW and we missed so much only being there for 3 1/2 days. We didn't even see Splash Mountain!!:sad2: I wwant to be alot better prepaired this time but alas we had a surprise baby this year that has put our visit off until next year. I am really interested in going to the Halloween party. Do you guys think it would be worth it with small kids?

Couple of thoughts

MNSSHP is the best money we've ever spent at Disney but you know your kids the best. Are they good late at night??? The party is only worth the money if you stay the whole time. Are your kids scared of Halloween? If they scare easy, it may not be the night for them. My DD was never scared but she doesn't scare easily.

Free dining has not been offered for next year yet so don't count on that yet. You'll have to wait until next spring to find out if they will be offering free dining again.

Sept is super hot. That being said, we always go in Sept because of the low crowds (even with free dining). You do need to plan for that and plan to take daily breaks with kids that age. Also, at 4 & 6, I doubt they use strollers at home but will need them at Disney. It's a lot of walking for little legs and combined with the heat- no strollers can lead to major meltdowns. We usually take DD's and park it in a certain park area and the do all the rides in that area and then move it again. We just have it for when DD needs a break.
