I am Legend...

is on HBO right now. This movie make me all nervous. Anyone else?

and I've seen it before.

The book "Cell" by Stephen King is a direct take on "I Am Legend." King even dedicated that book to Richard Matheson, the author of the book which "I Am Legend" was based on. I saw "I Am Legend" once and that was enough. :scared: I haven't read the book but after reading it's very similar cousin "Cell" I think I'll pass.:scared1:

OK, I just watched the alternate ending. Hmm... I don't know. They were both good IMO.

I prefer the alternate.

Whole point of the book was to show that the new bloods were an evolution and that the survivor became kinda the monster. With the Alternate ending Smith realizes that he was WRONG.

I hated every minute of this movie - one of the worst i've ever seen.

I agree. My DH and I thought it was one of the dumbest movies we have both ever seen. I love Will Smith and just thought this movie was so far fetched and "out there" I just couldn't get into it.

Though the "Sam scene" was very sad and disturbing.

I gave up reading The Road a third way in because it was way too depressing.

OMG. Was that the singular MOST DEPRESSING book EVER?!?! I hated that book even though I finished it. I kept hoping there was some alternate ending, but pretty quickly realized it was impossible to have a good ending of any kind. Very depressing, and demoralizing. Didn't Oprah name that as Book of the Month Club? What was SHE thinking?

Coming to a theater near you...

The book is WAY better than the movie, and the movie didn't follow the book that closely. I was disappointed in the movie because I was hoping that it would follow more of the book's storyline.

Both the book and the movie are depressing.

I loved this movie but I have to catch it at the beginning. I won't watch it if it's already playing. It's weird...I feel like I have to "watch" this movie. I can't just have it on and go about my duties around the house. Does this make any sense? I also prefer to watch it at night. With the lights off.

I can't believe that this thread has gone four pages and that no one has mentioned "The Last Man On Earth", starring Vincent Price.

That was the original movie from the book (not the Omega Man), and deserves a good look. Made on a shoe string budget, no special effects and downright laughable makeup, it still manages to capture the mood of the book better than either of the two remakes that followed.

I just watched the alternate ending. I liked it better. :)

I have to check out the alternate ending too. I've only seen the movie in theatre and I can't bring myself to borrow the DVD.

I have to say though, the voice over in the original ending kind of 'cheapens' the whole film. By that point everybody's understood that Dr. Neville is indeed a legend to those people. There's no need for the narrator to point that out.:confused3

I just saw I Am Legend for the first time yesterday. Based on the head zombie's original reaction to the capture of her, I immediately figured that the zombie girl that he was doing research on was the head zombie's girlfriend. After they made a point of showing how many "guinea pigs" Will Smith's character had killed conducting research, I assumed that the movie was going to end exactly how the chessy alternate ending did. I was amazed in the theatrical release that they let Will Smith die...and was happy to be surprised. I always seem to like a grittier ending to most films...

I liked the movie, really liked the book. I loved The Road. I think his writing is so lyrical and poetic. It was sad but hopeful at the end. I love end of the world stories though.

Man, did we read the same book?!? I have blocked out most of that book but the most disturbing passages. How did it end that was hopeful? Nuclear winter, no food, no hope of plant life or animal life to give hope of future food, no sun, roving bands of cannibals, small cluster of people running - -to where and to what? 100% terminal, right? Did I miss something?

I've tried to watch it twice, but had to get up and walk out of the room both times..

I just cant watch it..

I love post-apocalyptic movies and books, but they creep me out so much. I can't get them out of my head for a while after I see them...yet I can't resist watching them.

I love reading post-apocalyptic books. I have a horrible time finding any though. Can you list some that you have read? Then I can add them to my list of books to read.

Thanks

Oh, and for the record. I liked I Am Legend. It didn't live up to the hype for me though. After the way everyone spoke about it, I was expecting more. I also prefer the alternate ending to the theatrical one.
