Two weeks ago I brought all my indoor plants outside for the summer. I think I placed them in a wrong spot. I have since moved them to a more shaded area but they look fried!!!! And we had tons of rain, not too many hot days here.

Do you think there is hope for them? They include mostly what I wrote SSB about:

~ A Philodendrun - I've always called it Elephant Ears. Passed down to me by my mother-in-law. Age of plant is unknown.
~ Two Dracaenas - from cuttings of a plant belonging to a beloved uncle. Plants are older than my son.
~ What remained of a two newly acquired Spider plants after the kitty got at them.
~ Sansevieria (aka Mother-in-law's tongue) This plant is older than my marriage!
~ English ivy plant (I believe it's English ivy).
~ A Yucca plant.

Hubby is very upset with me. Should I bring them back in? Or should I leave them in the new shaded spot? I've put them outside in previous years but not in the spot I did this time. Oh, sometimes I am just such a puddin head!!!

:( :o :(

when they start getting their new growth...cut the burned stuff off....Also....some plants get outside buggies...so keep your eyes open for them....my english ivy is happy to stay inside..it is almost 20 feet long and it has been cut back once two years ago ....it is 12 years old....we call him Ralph....an elderly gentleman who had bought this plant and it was two inches high...died and I took it home with me .....cause he was so proud of it....and it keeps on ticking....my granddaughter one year said...that plant is ralph right? and I said yup.....and ralph died right? and I said yup....and he came back as a plant!! She was a kindergarten student at a catholic school and it was during Easter time....I still get a kick out of this

everyone hs done this at one time or another you are not a puddin head....LOL

how badly burnt are they?

can you remove the leaves and still have decent looking plants?

if not do what pumbaa suggested it will take awhile to get them back to where they were but if these are treasured friends it will be worth it.(I know from whereas I speak LOL having done this befor also.)

Sorry about you incident but keep your chin up.

Tuli house plants need complete shade, no sun at all.

Trim off all the burned leaves. You may have small plants for a while. Fertilize them and keep them well watered. They usually come back fuller, but it may take the whole summer.

Good luck with your house plants and remember No Sun.

Don't forget the Miracle Grow. It can do wonders. My oldest DS worked at a nursery a few years back and brought many plants back from almost death with weekly (sometimes daily) treatments of Miracle Grow.

Thank you all for your words of wisdom and for your support.

My philodendrum is fine (I found the tag to it, it's a "Tree Philodendum").

I forgot to mention a croton which someone gave my husband. That only got bleached a little but I brought it back inside. It should be fine.

The spider plants are gone but they were doomed before going outside because the cat ate most of them. :(

The yucca plant is not as bad as I thought and will do fine.

My english ivy plant is really a pothos (Thanks pumba, I had forgotten that but your post triggered the old noodle). I brought that back inside too. It was pretty badly damaged. I cut back severely and I am hopeful for a comeback.

The two Dracaenas are really really bad. I have taken some of the more burnt leaves off. I am reluctant to cut it back because the leaves are burnt all over, top and bottom of plant. :(

I don't know WHAT to make of the Mother-in-Law's tongue. I should try to post a picture of it, is all I can say about it.

I will water all plants a lot (except maybe the MIL's Tongue). Miracle Grow sounds like a good idea but the only thing that concerns me about that is just before bringing them out I treated all with Osmocote long acting fertilizer. I had never used that before. Can I still use the Miracle Grow or should I wait since the Osmocote is suppose to last for several months?
