I am just reaching that frustration point...any ideas on how to break through?

I am just new to the W.I.S.H. so I am sorry if I am just repeating some things that have been said before. But, also I need some time to vent and ask for some help. My new commitment to eat better and be better is hard, so please if you have an advice for me it would be so appreciated.:scared:

Let me give a little history...

About a month and a half ago I found out from visiting with a doctor and having my first physical in about three years that I had 3 options. 1. Have surgery 2. Lose weight naturally or 3. Die at 30 years old. I knew from being obese my whole life and just losing my parents almost 3 years ago with the same problems I had to do something. Thankfully this time, I was ready to commit myself to a new eating plan and start exercising.:yay:

So, my doctor set me with a nutritionist and we sat and made a plan for me to stick to. I was not about to go the surgery road (no offense, it is not for me) and so she put me on a very rigid eating plan. I am to eat heart healthy diet. (High fiber, low salt, no red meat) Also, I do water aerobics 3 times a week for my exercise.:yay:

I am thankful to say that I followed it really well for the last 4 weeks. I even cut out soda and when I had dessert (only twice in the last 4 weeks):woohoo: I opted for only a small scoop of ice cream or fruit. I have stuck to my water class and even am getting strong enough to get out of the pool all by myself.:cheer2: i even started to notice that my once very tight suit is starting to loosen a bit.

Well, that is good and all but this last week was not a good one for me! I am still trying very hard to be on my eating plan but I am starting to get very frustrated with myself. I cannot pin point exactly what I am feeling but I do not want to throw away the last 4 weeks with a setback. I know it is normal, because this is not my first time dieting and changing. But, I need to break through it because if I don't I will fall into a depression.

I am not trying to just fill space and have a pity party, but I really need help. If anybody has a great idea on how to break the cycle it would be greatly appreciated. I want to do this!! I want to be with my DH for a very long time and enjoy every Disney Park! (Lifetime ambition) Thanks for reading. I am glad that I found somewhere to share my story. I hope to be there for others too. To quote HSM: "We're all in this together!":grouphug:

Please know that you are not alone.:grouphug: We have all been there at one time or another, and it is so hard to stick with it, but it can be done, and you can do it. I am so sorry you lost your parents at such a young age. That is very difficult, and you should be proud of yourself for taking the first steps to make your life healthier.

I lost my dad when I was 31, and my mom has multiple health issues, mostly obesity and smoking related and I do not want to be in the same situation as her when I get older. It was after she was in the hospital for about 6 weeks, that I decided I was going to lose this weight for good, and I joined ww, for the last time. I found that looking at the big picture for me was very daunting, so I took it in 10 pound marks, getting from the 220s, into the 110s, etc, and it has been a slow road, with ups and downs, but I will not give up, no matter how long it takes.

It also helps to have support. I used to do weight watcher meetings, but now am doing it on my own, and find my support here on WISH. There are many inspiring and supportive people here, and we are all here to help each other stick with our programs, and not give up. There are lots of fun challenge threads, monthly exercise and weight loss where you set your own goals, and work towards them with the support of others in the same boat.

It is important to cut yourself some slack. You are human and will fall off the plan, and when you do, pick yourself up and start fresh. Try not to let one slip get you down and spiral out of control. You can do this, and you will have ups and downs, but be patient with yourself. You are worth it. Good luck. We are all here for you.

:grouphug: Evita:grouphug: I can tell you from experience that we all get to the point that we just want to give up. How many times do we all say: "What's the point?" "Why isn't the weight coming off faster?" "I am working as hard as I can and not seeing any results." We all have said these phrases and wanted to take a step backwards. That's what is easy. Actually, if you think about it, that is what got us in this situation in the first place. Now for the reality of the ordeal. What you are doing is adding years to your life. You are making yourself healthier. This is essential in order for you to be able to be here for DH as long as you want to be. A little time away now so you can exercise means a lifetime of memories that you wouldn't have otherwise. I am sure that if you get DH onboard, he will support you in any and every fashion that you may need. It has to be a team effort for that is the only true way for you to have true success. :woohoo:

Hope that makes sense and is helpful. I know you will find lots of encouragement an support here on WISH as well. Good luck with getting passed this "roadblock". :cheer2: :grouphug: :cheer2:

Wow! Good for you that you've come so far!

That's the most important thing we all forget to do-we forget that just a few short weeks or months ago we were couch potatoes, eating junk food and not doing anything. The fact that you've made those major changes is really something to be patting yourself on the back about.

Remember that it took a lifetime to get to the pattern you were in, and you're only 4 weeks into your new pattern. The old one will try and reassert itself from time to time.

I actually treat my impulse to backslide like a person and I tell it to go away and leave me alone when the thoughts intrude that tell me I can skip the gym or eat that second helping.

Good for you for posting! That alone is a victory! I think it is wonderful that you are taking care of YOU!

As you know, there are tons of weight loss programs out there...and each one has their share of fans and devotees. Sounds like you are working with a medical team, so stick to what the nutritionist is telling you. Keep your body moving...the water classes are great, but if you are bored or need a change...try shaking things up a bit. Alternate walking with swimming. There are a lot of great DVDs available (Walk Away the Pounds is very popular) so that you can still do it at home in case you didn't get time earlier in the day and/or the weather is not cooperating (though you are in Southern CA, you lucky girl! :goodvibes ).

I have two things that keep me going...

First, I do my workout in the morning. This sets me up for the whole day. I have already exercised and there is no way I am going to blow that by eating garbage.

Secondly, I come here. No kidding. Like many of us here, I have started and had some success--only to eventually fail--many times over. This time I am successful. What changed? Coming here! Being part of this wonderful support system. People listen. They understand. They give advice when asked, or provide a shoulder to cry on when needed, an ear for listening when I need to vent, and a ton of laughs along the way. And most importantly, they do not judge. Ever.

So, welcome! Read as much as you can...jump in on the threads where you feel some kindred spirits hang out...there is more than enough love and support to go around!

You are doing this for YOU...this is YOUR time!

 I feel so loved right now. I can't thank all of you enough for your encouraging words. I guess sometimes I get all caught up and get so frustrated. But, it is nice to know I am not the only one.:grouphug: (I guess even though I knew that in part, it never registers when you are upset)

The good news is I woke up this morning and just started again. I ate exactly what I was supposed to and I went to my Water Aerobic class. It feels good to be back and I want to continue and not give up.:yay: My teacher even came up to me today and congratulated me on my progress. She even reminded me of how things used to be just 4 weeks ago and was amazed that I have progressed so far. (I have gone from 20 min to almost 50 min of constant workout time):thumbsup2

Anyway, thanks again so much. I hope that I can continue to talk to you all. I am so glad that I have a group of people who understand me and are willing to help send good thoughts my way.

HAVE AN AWSOME DAY!!

The best advice that I can offer is to start over. When you have a bad hour, you have the next hour to be good. When you have a bad afternoon, you have the evening to be good. When you have a bad day, you have the next one to be good and so on. Don't let bad hours wreck your day and don't allow yourself to have bad weeks. When you have your next bad meal, make your next one good. You can't undo it but you can let it undo you...DON'T! You'll make it!!!!:cheer2:

Logging your progress helps too. You started at 20 minutes, now you're at 50!! You've added 30 minutes of active time in just 4 weeks!!

I write my workout plans on my dry erase calendar on Sunday night, so that it's the first thing I see when I get out of bed. It's a promise I've made to myself for the week, and I'm the one that's hurt when I break it. I also write down the mileage or time after each workout on my day planner at work. I have a visual reminder of how much exercise I've done each day, each week and each month.

You can do this, you deserve to have the success-and if you forget that-we'll all remind you. :flower3:

From 20 to 50 minutes in just 4 weeks! that's awesome! Aren't you curious to see what else your body can do?
That was a big motivator for me, the fact that the work led to real results, like those! How far can you go?
Soon, you'll begin to regard food more as fuel for your ever-changing body, rather than a reward, or just something to do.
You can do it!!! You are doing it!

The good news is I woke up this morning and just started again.

Good job!
Everyday is a new day and all you can do is your best.
When I feel like binge eating, I head outside for a walk, surf
the disboards, etc.

Keep up the good work and take it one day at a time:goodvibes

Congratulations! You are doing it! Make those small steps and see how well they add up to great things!

Never give up. I am proud of you for getting back right away and making it happen!

I can't wait to read more of your progress.

As already mentioned journaling is quite helpful, what you eat, what you do. Coming here is just as important. We help each other along the way. By helping someone you will find that it helps you too.

You go!

:cheer2: :cheer2:

Everyone is so nice here and I am grateful for everyone's inspiring words. I know that if I just keep going that I can do it.:woohoo:

Even though sometimes it gets hard, I know I have somewhere to go...

Thanks again!:thumbsup2

Evita: Hi there and just as the others posted above, congratulations on making the change and posting your issue when you could have just as easily gone and gotten something bad to eat!! Here's something a friend once told me/asked me when I was frustrated with the slow process of taking weight off:

How long did it take you to put all of that wieght on?

I stopped and realized that it had indeed taken me years to put on the 80ish pounds I shouldnt have put on, so it made me realize that it would probably take me just as long to take it off! Of course the work to take it off is WAY harder than the work to put it on!

Here's a few suggestions for you:
1) even though you're going to a nutritionist, what about finding a local weight loss support group like a weekly Weight Watchers meeting? I find that each week when i go to my meeting/support group I feel refreshed and renewed
2) what about a carrot to dangle in front of you? Ex: Every 5 pounds lost = $10 Disney dollars....save those up for: Once I hit ______pounds I'll get to go on a trip Disneyland (I know you're local but spending the night at the Grand California is a blast!) or to WDW or to Eurodisney!!!

One more thing: where in Socal are you located? I'm in the Santa Clarita area so if we're in close proximity we should get together for a walk and motivation session! I have about 50 more pounds to get to where I need to be so I can use the support too! :grouphug:

Hi Evita - and welcome!
I'm fairly new to posting here myself but, I can tell you this. There is so much inspiration here! I was right where you were, came to here and posted and received so many great ideas, good thoughts, motivation it really helped me so much! So many things you KNOW but, it takes someone else to point it out to you and remind you.
One thing I try to do and someone else mentioned is to keep a journal. Not just a food journal but, thoughts, quotes, ideas, etc. I find when I write things out it makes me stop and look at the big picture.
anyway, best of luck on your journey. Can't wait to hear more from you.

This is a wonderful idea!!

Yes, I am in So. Cal! I live in Long Beach so it is a little far from you. But I would love to keep in touch with eachother and be there for eachother. Do you have an AP to DL?

Great job on your progress! Keep it up! Again, thanks for all your motivating words and all the great ideas! :thumbsup2

Thank you fir the wonderful idea. I am not the best journal writer so i guess that is why i started posting here so I would have an outlet to get out my feelings.

I also noticed today that I need to keep a little book in my purse. I had alot of feelings today while waiting for my water aerobic class and i had to write them down on a recipt I had stashed away. When I looked later at that paper it made me realize that I maybe am a good person anyway.

All the best to you too. Thanks again for all your kind words.:goodvibes
