I used to have as many as 550 points. I now have 340 points. I think, at least for me, this was a good decision.
I did not sell the points because I needed the money or because I think DVC is going to hell in a handbasket.
I sold them because I was feeling that I had to arrange to use points for every vacation that went on. I first realized that it was a problem when DVC dropped some of my favorite Concierge entries. (The Grand Hotel, the Plaza and the American Club). I realized it again when I preferred to go on a cruise that was adults only.
Many of you have been smarter than me all along. You have realized that DVC should be a PART of a person's vacation planning. It should not restrict your planning, nor should it make your planning harder.
It should never make you feel that you have to use up your points nor that you have to go to somewhere that is OK rather than the place you really want to go to.

I have 180 and wish I could afford more. It is comforting to know that you can sell contracts and get a pretty fair price for them if you choose to do so.
Change is an unavoidable part of life, Next year my vacation preferences have changed (I've been a bit disillusioned with so many cutbacks at teh world) so I'm renting out my points and heading over to gay Paris for vacation.
I'll always probably be a little in love with wdw but there may come a time when I too will want to sell.
The most logical points to sell would be the BCV points, but I can't seem to let go. One reason is the resale prices are down--no idea if they will rebound. Another is we have a ressie for NYE which I don't want to cancel. Finally, we are planning to go again in APR 2011 and I need a bunch of BCV points!
