All I will say is if you qualify for UE you will get it. If you don't then you won't get it. OP obviously qualified. And the stimulus income limit was $150k I believe so it looks like OP is making less than that, so they got it.

other posters here seem either mad. jealous, or bitter all because someone you don't even know or know their situation got some help. Is it because other posters make more and got nothing or because you make less and OP still got something?

There have always been people who play the system and I think its wrong but right now I say if you are getting UE or another help then hope people are just smart about it and use it for what it is for.

I will also say that if you live in the Bay Area a six figure salary is pretty much low income.
Totally agree. Some of the other posters, (not all) are bitter and jealous, no doubt. Reminds me of when I worked with a lot of women in the GE plant and I was the only one who had the father of our kids in the home. They couldn't stand it that I was in a better situation becasue my marriage stood the test of time. They even went so far as to try and call my husband and tell him lies about me. The fact that I wasn't living paycheck to paycheck every month and getting to go on vacations every year really angered a lot of them. To see someone else who wasn't in the same misery they were in was just too much for them.

Pretty sure you're not, in fact, eligible for that Karen.
The income limit was $198k married filing jointly. So, yes, the OP would be eligible for a stimulus payment if her husband makes $101k

My sister was disgusted that she received a stimulus check as she has not been financially impacted as of now. So she donated what she received. She was partially phased out but is by no means wealthy. I too thought the idea of sending me a stimulus check when I have not been impacted was ridiculous.
I thought it was a bit ridiculous as well and we do not really need it because we have a lot in savings. That said, there really was no way of knowing back in March (when the stimulus plan was going through) whether you were going to be affected or not.

My husband (an RN at a large hospital) just got partially furloughed for the next four months. I would have likely been laid off this month if my company didn't wind up getting approved for the second wave (just a week or two ago) for the Paycheck Protection Program loan. If the stimulus had been based on whether or not you were affected in March, it would have left out a huge percentage of workers whose jobs delayed their layoffs/furloughs/etc until April or May.

Correct. We don't know if my husband will get furloughed, his pay cut or what in the future.

I get that. I don't feel guilty. I just think it was stupid. I don't see why money was sent to people who were not impacted. That's my $0.02.

What was really stupid was most of the money the US government spent to bail out Wall St. back in 2008/2009 was used to pay multi million bonuses to executives who were responsible for crashing the global economy.

What is the deal with MikeNamez thinking everything is so funny? I guess some could be, but what gives?

🤣 is actually the "Triggered" emoji. Most often used when they read a post that sets them off so bad, but they don't want points, so all that's left is to give the 🤣.

Yeah, forget today's furloughs, hiring freezes and pay cuts. At least after the 2008-09 recession, the biggest hits in my company came in 2011-12 when we were well into recovery and corporate was looking to squeeze profit out of the operation. Entire job classifications went away, most of them at the low end of the pay scale. Now those jobs did come back in 2014-15 when new managers from outside the company and came in and showed corporate how much money cutting those jobs cost them because those people did work and generated revenue above what the salaries cost.

She didn’t pay into it. Her employer did.
I pay NJ unemployment tax every pay period. I have paid into unemployment my entire life.

Late to this party, but yes, some employees pay into unemployment. In PA, I have money taken out every week that goes directly to the unemployment fund. Maybe your state does not, but not every state does unemployment the same way!

Right. Some states do it differently. But hey I'm glad for my brother drawing 1,000.

I don’t really care about the people making more on unemployment than their paycheck. For one they were underpaid and unemployment won’t last forever. Let them enjoy this. I do agree that there better be something for essential workers.

I'm also tired of fellow citizens berating people about a stimulus check and lack of savings especially when billion dollar businesses are getting millions. For one, everybody even Jeff Bezos should have received one. All of our lives were put at and still at risk. Safety measures should have took place back in November. Most importantly you shouldn’t have had to empty out your savings for this. A government should take care of it’s citizens during hard times especially when they dropped the ball. Most First World countries are. Also you don’t know why someone doesn’t have savings.

People are more mad at this unemployment thing then big businesses getting bailouts and still laying off employees.

Yeah I heard some people dont want to come to back work now that some places are stopping the furloughs... They are making good money to stay at home!

Some states are actually encouraging companies to report staff that are claiming unemployment for Covid 19 while there are readily available hours being offered to them. Makes sense to me tbh.

I'm curious to know if anyone who is giving anyone a hard time about $600, saying you shouldn't take it blah blah blah... is giving their $1200 back.

The unemployment can be replaced with a paycheck once things reopen, a stimulus check is different. They’re apples and oranges and don’t really help to prove your point (which I do understand and agree with to an extent).

Technically, that is the legal requirement (at least here in CA). But on the ground, I know several business owners who are aware that their employees are making the same/more on UI/UE and are holding off on recalling employees until after July 31st.

Their situations are informed by the difficulty and cost in hiring new employees and training them, and the inevitable ill-will/friction generated by calling back employees to make less/the same as staying home.

Strange times indeed, and part of the reason why I feel that DLR/WDW will not start recalling the bulk of employees until mid/late-July.

SL6827-Little confused that you believe people should be reported but you are still planning on taking unemployment in the summer during a period when you may not have been eligible, depending on your state rules, for a substitute school employee. In our state, teachers and school employees are not eligible for benefits in the summer.

I believe the PUA is not for the same reason as normal UE. It is for people who would not originally qualify. I believe (my guess) it was created because you can not go out and just work anywhere and try to make ends meet. I am actually glad it is going to everyday people. I would much rather see this than billions to foreign countries or wall street.
This is from our GA site:
The PUA program will provide unemployment benefits to those not ordinarily eligible for them. This includes individuals who are self-employed, gig workers, 1099 independent contractors, employees of churches, employees of non-profits, or those with limited work history who do not qualify for state unemployment benefits.

OP applied for UE, not PUA based on her prior messages. Bottom line is that people are getting more benefits than they should be eligible for but that is a program flaw. IMO People should not take advantage of a program flaw that is going to cost all of us and our children more in the long run.
