I live at the end of a street, it is a dead end and there is a culdesac ( big circle) aftet it for people to turn around. Back in July i wrote a letter about having the bus stop moved closer for DS6 so it wasnt so far. I never heard about it. The closest stop is you go to the end of my street up half a block take the 1st right and go almost to the top of that street. It is to far for him to walk alone and is considered a saftey issue by the school and the safety officer. So in November I called the man office that handles this.
I explain i sent the letter, spoke with the bus ocmpnay, the safety officer, and have heard nothing THis was on NOv 1st. He says he will look into it then 3 weeks go by it is the Wednesday the day before Thansgiving I call again for an update he says its to far, I say ok well the bus company has been stopping at the corner of the block instead of making me walk up the other st he says well that still almost 2 blocks and to far I said i agree he said thanks for your patience and i am making them move the stop.

I called today as its 11 degrees and i am walking shawn to the bus with DS 22 months and freezing my butt off. He says oh the bus company didnt call you we dont go down culdesacs so we cant move any closer.

I am DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lost it
if that was the case how come no one ever said that to me
they kne wi lived one. I am so mad. I have wasted a month and half on this and now they wont move the stop. I just got off the phone with the superintendent and he was surprised that they didnt tell me about the culdesac, i was clear, the map of the town shows I live at a dead end. This is ridculus. I said well its still to far to walk well yes it is but we dont go down so
tough
what am i sup to do, its not SAFE for my son but oh well

I am at my wits end, I am ready to move I am so mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can they stop at the top of your street without turning it?

I guess you will have to drive your son to school. I don't think 2 blocks is too far to walk for a bus, sorry.

no they cant if they come past that block they have to go all the way down my street to turn around
the whoel things is ridiculous

I guess I don't understand your grievance... because the busses around here don't go down culdesacs either. They always stop at the tops of streets, regardless of how far kids/parents have to walk. Just how it is. If they start redoing the route for one person, they'll have to redo it for everyone, and then the kids would be getting to school at 2pm in the afternoon! :)

Can you drive your son to the bus stop? I remember a lot of mommies doing this when I was little and it was raining or really, really cold!

I'm sorry you're frustrated though.

Julia

i guess i am more frustrated at the poor communication and lack if it
if they had said theat from the beginning that would be one thing
you dont call a mom and say it s safety issue we are moving the stop and then say no we arent cuz we dont want to drive down there
the garbage truck and fire trucks get down here
oil trucks, water trucks
whatever he bus company said they dont want to add the 2min on to the route it would add so i am thinking this is the real reason
i just talked to them
im glad all of these reasons are more important that his safety
hmm i just had a huge tax hike to ....

I can't imagine why you wouldn't be walking him to the bus stop even if it's nearby.

My kids' bus stop is that far away too. Even the parents whose houses sit right alongside the stop come out of their houses to stand with their kids. I can't imagine letting a kid walk alone to the bus stop. :confused3 Even though two blocks isn't far, I still drive my DD when the weather is cold or bad.

Some of the kids living in the country have a mile to get to a bus stop. Their parents just have to drive them. :confused3

they cant stop at the top of my street so that wont work

Wow, for the younger ones here they do whatever it takes to make it safer for them. I live in the country. SO most of the main road are not safe for the kids to be waiting on. I live at the last house on a dead end. The bus comes all the way down to pick my DD up in the driveway. They use my driveway for a turn around. She has a great bus driver though. If there is a sub they back the bus up all the way down the street.

I feel your pain as we are in a similar situation. Long story short, my kids go to a private school that "uses/rents? busses from one of our cities public school district. Well, our house is in a "different" school district and the bus my kids take is "not allowed" to come into our neighborhood b/c of us being in a different school district. So, my kids would have to walk about 2 1/2 blocks to catch the stinking bus, which just isn't going to happen. So I end up driving them to school every morning. We went round and round with the superintendent last year to no avail. We brought up the safety issues just like you did but basically were told that's just the way it is. Frustrating beyond belief. :sad2:

I guess it all depends on where you live. No one walks their kids or drives their kids to the bus stop here. If your mom or dad waited with you at the bus stop that is grounds for the class bully to beat you up :rotfl: . It just isn't done around here.

sorry you are upset...but we don't have buses here..the school is within 1 mile.

So from Kindergarten on I drove my kids to school.....if I did not do that they would have to walk pretty far and on a very busy North Jersey road for most of the walk.( and yes I had infants that I had to get up , bundle up and take with me too)

I guess since the bus is coming within 2 blocks you think that they might as well come all the way....but look at it from the point of view that if you lived within a mile of school he would either be walking or you would be driving anyway!!

Drive down to the stop.......

I do walk him and if it was clsoer i would walk him to
i dont have an issue walking him
they dont want you to drive to the stop then all the cars get in theway of the bus i was doing this was sent a letter by the bus company
i feel like i cant win
i drive him they complain, they wont move the stop i complain
if they had never said it was a safety isssue i probably would have dropped it

Where I currently live, the bus does not go down cul-de-sac's either, they just go in a loop around the street. I see quite a few mothers driving their kids to the stop, even if it's a few blocks.

It's a shame they weren't more clear with you from the beginning and told you that they can't come down your street.

If you had a pedophile in your neighborhood, it would be done.

That's bogus. The bus company has no right to tell you that you can't drive your child and park on a public street. If I'd ever get a letter like that, it would go right into the circular file. :rotfl2:

Anyway, I'm sorry I got the impression that you didn't walk him. :)

Does anybody EVER park along the edge of the circle?

Don't blame the busses, blame the people who make them have to consider where they can drive without getting stuck.

And many kids in my area have to walk at least two blocks to he stop.

I drove him every day to K last year and my just start driving him again
they said it wasnt safe and then said they were moving the stop
then now say this culdesac thing
im sorry a six year old shouldnt have to walk 2 and half block to catch the busyou cant say its a safety issue and then do nothing to fix it
THE SCHOOL said if should be able to walk to the stop by themsleves
i am the only mom out there as all the other kids live 2 houses from the stop

and if I had a 6 year old like the OP I would be driving to the stop !!

OP If you drive and they send you another letter.....send them a policy letter from your family.....(styled after their no culdesac letter) letting them know that it is not your family policy to alllow a 6 year old walk to and wait unattended to a bus stop!!

whatever he bus company said they dont want to add the 2min on to the route it would add so i am thinking this is the real reason

But see, how many busses are out there on the roads for every school in your school system? If they make a change like that for you, they're going to have to make a zillion other changes, and the "2 min" addition to your bus's route just turned into an additional 2 hours.

Of course garbage trucks and fire trucks go down the street. It's not that the bus can't, it's just so much more time-effective to pick up a bunch of children in a single location, rather than solitary children at multiple locations.

ETA: And if it's a super long route, think about what time that first child has to get on!!! :(
