C.Ann said:Try to think of things you can look forward to - and then start making plans for them.. Don't worry about - "Well what if we can't do/afford it?" - just go ahead and make the plans.. (Obviously I don't mean putting any money down on anything - just all of the other planning stages..) When and if the time comes and Plan A doesn't work out, move on to Plan B..
That's pretty much how I've been dealing since my DH passed away a year ago.. I started making "plans" right away - with no idea if they would pan out or not - but the thought process made me feel better and when things went awry along the way, I just switched to another plan.. I know I wouldn't have made it through the past year without falling into a deep depression if I didn't find things to look forward to.. There has to be some sort of goal to aim for later on or you feel stagnant - like one day just runs into another - and you end up feeling like, "What's the point?"..
Try it - it works great for me!![]()
I think this is great advice. I find that whether I actually do it or not, just planning things lifts my spirits. My DH has been pretty ill for the last 3 yrs and I sometimes get depressed at the turn our lives have taken. Planning trips and learning about other parts of the country helps take my mind off the things that are going badly.
