I am crazy or does anyone else do this - RO discount

I have been crunching numbers this morning in anticipation of the rumored RO discount. I have a package - it is paid off - so the money is gone so to speak - I have been looking upgrading my current room situation - currently I have a garden view at the Beach - if I go for the RO discount (my guess is 20% at the POLY) I can go to the POLY standard room - or AK or WL CL (guessing 35%) for just about the same price as my Garden view package

I love the convenience of the Beach, but would you upgrade to a different hotel to get a new experience or just stay where you are if the money is the same? The Beach and Yacht are just about completely sold out for my dates - only lagoon view left at both and Beach doesn't even have any standard CL rooms available - so I can probably be assured that they won't have any discounts available so I won't be able to get a cheaper price staying there.

I definitely love to try new hotels! For our upcoming October trip we had initially booked POFQ. We've stayed there before and love it; but... well, we've stayed there before and we already know we love it. LOL! So we changed over to POR - same price, but a new resort experience (and close enough to walk to POFQ for beignets)! We also did a previous trip that was a WL/AKL split stay, just to try different resorts. For us, the resort is one of the fun parts of the trip so we love to mix it up and try new places.

I'd go to the new place, for me I can't declare a favorite till I've tried them all.

I think when discounts are released that it's a great way to experience other resorts or room types that you might not otherwise try. We upgraded room types in the past when we were able to get a discount. When we first tried the WL, we were originally booked in a standard view room. When a discount came out (can't remember exactly what it was), WL CL was the same price as what standard view was at rack rate. I could have saved money by applying the discount and sticking with standard view, but we decided to upgrade and give CL a try. We weren't paid in full at the time the discount was released, but we were prepared to pay what was booked, so I saw it as a chance to try CL for a great rate. To some that might seem crazy, but to this day I don't regret that decision at all.

I just did the same thing...our goal is a BLT 2BR, but I booked rooms we would be thrilled with, AKL Savanna, and was willing to pay rack rate. Then I got a 15% AAA discount, then a 40% military discount. When I crunched the numbers, I saw that with the 40% military discount, we could have CR TPV for the price of AKL Savanna with AAA, so I booked it!

I always book the resort that I want to stay in, and if a discount comes up I "bank it". I love saving money, so if I get a discount, that means I am spending less money for my trip than I thought I would. I would not upgrade so that I could "spend" the money I just saved.

But then that's me, and I love the Beach Club. Garden view is my favorite but I've also received free upgrades to lagoon view several times. I love the free upgrades.
