This heat is just too much the last couple of days.. well the humidity. And I do not want to be there in Sept, spending $4K and being miserable. So even though I lose free dining, at least I know I wont be hot and humid every single day. So we are going to go in Dec or Jan. So I will be cancelling 2 rooms (standard) at ASMo 9/21-10/1 if anyone wants them!

 This heat has been brutal!:faint:

I, too, am going in early September to tour the resorts so at least I will be inside a lot of the time. And I bought one of those misty fans.

However, I am planning a November trip with the kids to do the parks because I can't stand the heat either. If they do offer free dining in 2008, I am going to take another trip, but it will be to go to the waterparks and Disney Quest. We will have already done the theme parks two years in a row by then.

Anyway........I think you will enjoy January or February better. We did Disneyland one year in February and the parks were not crowded and the weather was nice. The one downside is that some rides go under renovation at that time. (My very favorite ride of all time- the Matterhorn- was down during our trip).

Try to hit early February before President's Weekend and the beginning of Spring Break.

Only one more day of this heat and the weekend is supposed to be beautiful!

Sorry to hear you are cancelling, but I know exactly what you mean. If we didn't have air fare credits that expire Aug 31, I would not choose Aug.

You will love the weather in Dec/Jan. If you go in Dec, you can do MVMCP and see all the Christmas decorations. Good luck to you! Now you have a lot more time to plan a magical vacation.

I made 3-4 trips in FL summer heat over the years. I vowed never again in Aug. We then did 4 trips in Nov/Dec. I loved that time of year. I really don't tolerate heat very well. Then last year, I had to do Aug because of DD's school schedule (HS senior - 5 AP classes, could NOT miss school). I was taking 3 showers a day due to the heat!

So here I am going back in Aug to use up the air credits and I hope to never go back in the summer again.

Thats too bad. The heat the last 2 days in CT has been bad. But really when we are in WDW in Sept the lines are so short we just go from one indoor ride with ac to another. If you pass yourself by getting up early with afternoon resort and swim breaks Sept is really not that bad. But that is the beauty of WDW being there 12 months a year. There is always a good month for everyone.

:grouphug:
Sorry you had to cancel.
I think if the heat gets to you it was a good decision. I am sure you and your children will enjoy the parks and the cooler temps at Disney in Dcember or January.

Have fun planning your next Disney vacation!:wizard:

Thats funny, because Im the reverse. I took a chance and went just this last jan and hated it, it was too cold. Everyone was wearing jackets. It was so cold, I couldnt even use the pool at AKL, and thats stinks, when you pay so much and cant use all the stuff, you know? I will never go in the dead of winter again. Ill go any time from mid spring to mid fall, and thats it. I do wish you good luck with the weather there tho. I lived in West palm for a few years and within that time, one winter it snowed, and that was way back in my late teens. NO WAY will I take a chance like that, With all the AC and indoor rides, it so much easier to just go indoors then freeze outside. Again, good luck and bring a jacket, a spring/fall type jacket. :santa:

Well I am taking a chance I know. I am just too worried about the weather being hot and humid. And with fee dining and now AP rates, who knows how the parks will be. I just dont want to be waiting outside in the heat and humidity. Dec could be cold.. live and learn I guess! I did book the Con for 10 nights, garden view, AAA rate and got it for $2916. Hoping for Poly but no AAA rate so maybe I will switch with an AP rate :)

You know when we went one Dec, one of the days it was about 40 degrees. We had jackets on for some of the trip. But there were days we could swim too! FL is as crazy in the winter as Chicago is all the time. Actually, I am more of a cooler weather person, so I love going to FL when it's cooler.

If the heat bothers you, as it does me, I think you have made a wise choice. So many people love going when it is cooler. It is miserable in the heat... especially with the long lines. What I want to do this Aug, is spend time at the resort and not feel like we have to be racing around all the time at the parks in the heat.

It sounds like you know what is best for your family. :)

I live in Arizona...I understand the heat issue! :)

I too am going in Jan, I can't wait to have some cooler weather...

We went in January for the first time this year and absolutey loved it! We only found the weather to be "too" cold in the early mornings and evenings. Once the sun was out... it was very enjoyable. Have to agree with the fact that its a little too chilly to swim on ocassion, but we brought our bathrobes to the pool and used those once we got out.

I thought about canceling my trip (for other reasons) but coudn't do it... the temptation of that food was too strong for me :sad2:

If this package had not become available I probably would have considered a trip in mid-dec or mid-late jan. I weighed my options though: food for the whole family or a couple degrees cooler... needless to say... we'll be wearing our elastic pants this trip :snooty:

For a family of 6... free food would have been nice. But I know how I get with the heat and the nitpicking with my kids start too. It just wasnt worth it! Plus, I was planning a weekend trip for Dec to see the decorations. It also gives me 3 extra months to save... well 4.5 since I have room only I wont need to pay upfront. So now I get to stay at a deluxe instead of 2 value rooms (No offense but my kids are sooo pool people!!) As long as its warm enough in the water, I will deal with bathrobes or such to get out of the water!

Listen to me people - if you are judging a Sept stay by the weather we have had in the NorthEast/Mid Atlantic the last two days, DON't! The heat and humidity here are brutal. But I have been to Orlando every year during the end of August and it is NOT like this. Yeah - it's hot. But its a tropical sunny hot. The air is not as muggy and hazy. It just feels better there. It rains every afternoon and cools off. The nights are pleasant. There are plenty of indoor things to do in the heat.

Late August and September lines are very small. Yeah - it's hot, but it really is better than our hot & humid.

I already cancelled. I just wasnt up for chancing the weather. This was a big amount of $ for us. But I wanted to go and see the Christmas decorations anyway. So this way I do get an extra day and I can stay at a deluxe vs a value, which was important to me too.

You will like December and the Christmas decorations. I really enjoyed my trip last November. It was actually cold for the first few days, but then it became 75 and sunny. Perfect. Yeah - its definately better weather, but I still Love August. It's something I can't explain.

The first time I went during the summer I was expecting the worst heat ever. That's when I learned that the weather is no more brutal than what we have. It much better than the choking ozone summer days of Delaware. I remember one Labor Day weekend with the most perfect 80 degree, low humidity weather.

Have a great trip!

Just an FYI for any one else up that way whose been considering cancelling because of the heat...the NY metropolitan area frequently gets hotter than Florida for some reason...and hotter than Atlanta as well. I don't think its cracked 100 since I've moved down here three years ago...NJ...it can be high 90's for days every year...occasionally 100 in some locations.

I agree. I sometimes head north during the summer, and it can be hotter elsewhere than here.

When I was a kid/teenager, my family always brought us down the end of August. It was hot, but not unlike being in NJ. (I prefer October, though - pretty perfect weather!) December can be warm or cold, you never know.

Oh - I just noticed it was the end of the month (September). That is a perfect time for here, IMHO. Not so hot like July, not too cold - perfect for swimming and not busy. Sorry you aren't going! (but the free dining booking has ended, so noone will be able to pick it up anymore). :( That is around the time I'm doing free dining - I am looking forward to it - though I don't have to drive too far to get there.

Oh well, I was just too nervous. I shoulda waited though I think. I decided it and cancelled the next day. I should have thought it through. But whats done is done and we are spending Christmas in Disney for 11 days so I guess thats okay, right?

I'm nervous about the heat as well!! We went the first week of December last year and it was WONDERFUL! Crowds were very low and the weather was not hot, and not cold! It was perfect!

I guess the best plan of attack for the September heat is to go early, break in the middle of the day (or do indoor things), and stay late when the sun goes down!

Anyone else have any tips or reassurances that it will be ok??? :goodvibes

I guess I should have questioned what the weather was normally like. Although, with hurricane season, you just never know anyway!

There is never a guarantee of weather anywhere (what the temps will be, if we'll have tropical weather, etc.). We had our worst tropical weather this past year on Christmas and Ground Hogs day - tornadoes through a couple of counties.

The end of September is usually warm. It can be wet, but who knows? We could have a hurricane, but hurricane season lasts for nearly half the year. December can be cold. December can be hot. It can be both hot and cold within a couple of days time.

Our weather is tropical, and you never will have a guarantee. But the late September/October time frame for me is perfect here overall. I love the weather once it gets to late September, starting fall season. I don't love July so much. :) I do like December as well - it's busier than it used to be, but not bad at all (getting discounts can be tough towards the beginning of the month, resorts do fill up pretty well).
