I am beginning to lose hope...

At their last report, increased profits were attributed to price increases.

Where do you get your facts?

I was going to post a long, boring post with actual facts about where their profits came from, what their reasons for layoffs were blah, blah, blah..but you know what? You should actually read their financial report before giving that blanket statement.

But I give. You're right.

Disney, despite record profits and attendance, is going in the toilet. It's a matter of time before they shutter the doors forever and it's all because of FP+. Guess I better get my trip in before they shut it down.:rolleyes1

I never said Disney was going in the toilet, nor did I deny that they had record profits. You're the one who's making these statements. You also claimed that disney didn't need to cut back and cut corners to adjust for losses.
So if Disney doesn't need to cut back or adjust for losses, why have they shut down all of the attractions at DHS and not officially announced any new attractions? Why did they cut back on EMH? Why did they lay off 500 IT workers last week and outsource IT positions to India? Why are they going to increase ticket prices?
So I repeat, why are they cutting back?

You do understand that Disney didn't have any losses last year, right? So it follows that they don't need to cut back due to losses because.....anyone? anyone? That's right, they didn't have any.

They shut down ALL the attractions at DHS??? Really? Wow....

Disney isn't required to notify you of why they're doing what they're doing. I'm guessing any closures at DHS is in anticipation of something to do with Star Wars--that insignificant thing they got the rights to not long ago. But I'm guessing because I don't get notifications from Disney on their plans.

Why did they lay off and outsource to India? Really? You can't figure that out? It's CHEAPER. We may not like it, but they're in the business of making money and if they can cut costs somewhere that doesn't hurt them financially, they will. Gripe at every other successful company in America that's doing the same exact thing.

Why are they increasing ticket prices? Because they can and people will pay it. I can't fault them there. Why shouldn't they raise prices? Are you going to gripe when Universal does the same thing? Don't like the prices? Don't go. If enough people don't go, they'll do something about it. But don't pay the increase, they gripe because they increased.

Why did they cut back on EMH? From what point are you talking about? They used to, many years ago, offer EMH at a price for on site guests. You could buy tickets to get extra hours- I'm thinking it was 2, maybe 4 hours but I forget. But I don't know why specifically they did any cut backs to EMH. Do you?

Or one can decide because they don't like fp+ that Disney is headed for trouble - despite the fact that there's no evidence to support that- and they're cutting back to make up their losses- Oh wait, they didn't have any losses..that's a problem.

First of all you knew what I meant whe n I said disney had shut down all of the attractions, but I guess you decided to harp on me for use of hyperbole, so yes I'm guilty.

But then when you make statementslike this:

At any rate- I don't really care where their profits came from. I care that they're doing well, which means they don't need to cut back and cut corners to adjust for losses. Anything beyond that is of no consequence to me.
But in point of fact they are cutting corners and they are cutting back. But as you said, it's of no consequence to you.
I'm only responding to your observations, and pointing out that disney may not have to cut back, but they are in fact doing it. They may be posting profits, but are these profits enough to offset the expense of MDE implementation?

No, they're posting record profits.

If they're setting records for profits, it's safe to assume it's enough. I don't how much better you want them to do than better than they've ever done before.

This is a ridiculous conversation. I'm done with it. If you want to believe that making more money than ever and having more guests in the parks than they've ever had before is an indication of problems- feel free.

You're probably right. I'm hoping that Universal's continued introduction of new attractions will light a fire under Disney. I know people keep saying Star Wars is coming, but when? 2025? All I see is attractions closing at DHS. Avatar 2017. I know some people believe that Disney requires additional time because of their devotion to detail, but if this were true how come attractions like Small World and Pirates moved from story board to operational in sucha short period of time?

I think Universal is already having an effect. I don't think they'd be doing Avatar for one. That's the most likely park to get cut for a Universal day or two.

And whatever they are doing at DHS, same idea.

Disney fans should thank Universal! ;)

I wonder what will happen when the King Kong attraction opens at Universal. Will Disney fans skip Epcot or DHS? Interesting question. I think the King Kong attraction is slated to open before Avatarland, so I think Disney is in for another rude awakening.
What I really find amusing is that one of the Disney execs said disney would not engage in an attractions race! So what are they going to do, offer another dessert party?

This is a ridiculous conversation....

Not really. If you want to see a ridiculous conversation............ :rotfl2:

Seriously though, I think these boards would be pretty dull indeed if it were not for the dedicated and constant efforts of a small but fiercely tenacious group. Because if it weren't for them, we'd have no choice but to read 1,000 iterations of how to customize a magic band.

I don't know about you, but I appreciate a good thread on how to apply nail polish to my bands! ;)

I already decided to skip DHS and Epcot when we go back to WDW. Not sure if we'll have time to do Universal yet since our trips will now be shorter, but it was an easy decision to make DHS and Epcot the first casualties.

And I don't think they really thought they had to do anything in lieu of an arms race. I think they just assume the guests will always be there. Or they would not have resorted to ride rationing while US is ramping up.

......... or line cutting. The line cutters are really giving FP+ a run for its money this week. ;)

Sometimes given some of the ridiculous commentary and the inability to see Disney as anything but perfect I think I'd prefer the " 1000 iterations of how to customize" anything !

Yeah, heaven forbid you suggest how to save a few bucks without pro-forma's and spreadsheets at your fingertips.

Yes, it is kind of funny isn't it? Everything is great.

After all, it's fine that they take jobs away from Americans and outsource to India. I wonder how they're doing with teaching their Indian IT department to end each conversation with, "Have a magical day!" ?

Epcot has become a semi-permanent food-and-drink festival grounds. Nothing wrong with that, I know people enjoy it, but drinky-town is not my thing. That one was the first to get cut for us. It probably makes obscene amounts of profit, which is why they don't care that half of the buildings are empty.
