I am becoming paranoid now?

Over the weekend we had the amber alert for the girl that was kidnapped 10 minutes away from home, whose parents got killed by the kidnapper.
I always locked my cars and the front door when I was alone before that , but now I find myself locking the rear sliding door too. I think I'm getting paranoid.

You are getting paranoid, but with good reason. Too much wacky stuff going on around in this world. I long for the days when I could keep my doors unlocked (actually I do sometimes, but it's by mistake).

Nah, not paranoid according to me. You are just changing your habits to match the environment IMHO.
Now my dh on the other hand...he would say yes you are.

When we lived in rural New Hampshire a few years ago we didn't even have a lock for one of the doors. We just left and went to Florida for a couple of weeks without a thought. The mailman would put packages in the house if we were not home. We always left our keys right in the car. The shop owner on Main Street would just move the car if he needed to.

Now I think you should keep your doors locked - even if you are in the house. It's not paranoid - it's just sensible (and it sucks).

MS Kanga - that is terrible. Sadly enough, chances are it was not a stranger who committed the awful crimes. Still if you doors are locked, a would-be intruder might pick a different house.
