All this talk about M/S at first had me quite worried, but I have to realize that in the long run Star Tours, Body Wars, tea cups etc do not phase me at all so I am assuming I have nothing to worry about. I am sure I will be nervous but after reading all the reports I don't think it will bother me too much..

BUT!!!

Tower of Terror is something else. Our first trip 2 years ago I figured I didn't know when we would ever come back to WDW so I bit the bullet and went. I did not pay a single bit of attention to the preshow as I was quaking so badly I am surprised I could actually walk straight. We got into the elevators and the bar came down (I had my kids next to and in front of me) and as soon as the doors slid shut and we started going up I started crying (OK.. now you all know what a huge infant I really am), I wasnt bawling out loud or anything, just out of sheer terror the tears were rolling down my face and my kids were all touching me telling me it was going to be OK. I felt so stupid but at that moment I didn't care. I knew nothing about the ride in regard to when it would drop so I just sat there wiping my face and waiting. We got to the top and started moving forward (again I barely paid attention to any of it) Then we went into another room and it was totally black (at this point it didn't even occur to me that we had reached the "drop zone") and suddenly without warning (so glad the kids didn't say "Hear it comes") the whole elevator dropped out from under me and I was falling falling falling..... Then of course it shoots you up and up and you do it all over again. I remember coming off the ride laughing, shaking and saying HEY, that wan't that bad!

We went back to WDW last Feb and for some reason I couldn't muster the courage to do it again.... It completely wrecked my day the first time we went to MGM because I kept thinking I should go and the family kept saying they wanted me to go but I just couldn't. Now we are going back in Dec and I really want to go because I know it wasn't that bad, but I keep thinking that I will be so scared all over again. If I can just do it once (more), I think I will be fine.

I need some people to tell me that it is not as bad as I think it is.... To tell me if I can handle M/S I can handle that....

also, is the the g-force in M/S worse than RNR? I went on that once and thought it was so intense.. I figure if I can handle being shot into space I can handle being shot down the carpool lane.... (I'm a little feraky about RNR too but will go again if people tell me M/S is worse..since I know I can handle M/S)

Basically what I am saying is:

Hello My name is Melora and I am giant chicken. Please help me

It is not as bad as you think it is, Melora. :) You can handle that. :teeth:

Melora.... I wish I could encourage you but I too am a giant chicken.. or a ride sissy as I refer to it.. I have never TOT, RNR, I am pretty proud of the fact that I have done Splash Mountain and can do it.....I have only done Thunder Mountain once never to return.. so do not feel bad, you are not alone..

Marsha, ride sissy..

Hello Melora! My name is Michelle and I am giant chicken too!

You rode RnR? Not me! I WAY too big of a chicken for that one. If you did that then I think you can do ToT again and do M/S for the first time. On our last trip I did do the Tower and was a little scared to do it too. But I made it and I want to do it again!!! Why don't you just run down in October and ride it with me? That way we can keep each other from being scared again! ;)

You can do it!, you can do it!!, you can do it!!!
Just keep telling yourself YOU CAN DO IT!!
I won't touch roller coasters, but i just love TOT. :)

Yes. Hi. My name is Dianna and I am also a fellow chicken (I'm not sure if you read my M:S for chickens post...If I can do it so can you) But it was really not big deal. The worst part is getting yourself so worked up over something that lasts for 20 seconds. Like I said..If I can do it, so can you !

also, is the the g-force in M/S worse than RNR?

Yes. It is. More intense, and longer lasting.

You know, I sympathize with you. A few years ago, my DH and DS dragged me to the top of Summit Plummit and when it was my turn, I didn't want to go. My son had already gone, and my husband was behind me, to go next. I succumed to ridicule and peer pressure, and did it, but my son said he heard me screaming all the way down. I did not enjoy it. I will never do it again.

If you really don't want to do it, don't do it. There is lots more to ENJOY at WDW than Mission: Space. You don't have to prove anything, to anyone. Enjoy yourself, and do that which makes you joyful. :D

I am sooo glad to read that I am not the only chicken!!! I feel so silly sometimes, as my kids are afraid of much less than i am!

My DH loves rollercoasters, and everything of the nature... in fact, he truly cannot wait to shoot down summit plummet! (which of course, there is no way in the world i would ever attempt that)!

But, my plan of action is this... I paid way too much for our entire family to come to the vacation of a lifetime, to wait for everyone to get off the ride! I am trying all of them at least once! If I dont like it I dont have to go again!

We leave in 4 days.... so, if you see someone shaking, sweating profusely, pale, looking like they may spew while in line... it just might be me!

Have a good time everyone!
gabby

ps....I can picture myself now, on tot crying and my 5 & 9 yr olds saying it will be ok mom.... reassuring me all the way! lol!

I am pathetic when it comes to thrill rides, but each visit to WDW I psych myself up to try something new. Of course it has to be something I really WANT to try, and that's my advice to you.

First trip I did Space Mountain and HATED it. Many years later went back with boyfriend (now DH) and did Big Thunder Mountain and HATED it. I just hate coasters, in case you didn't get that.

Have tried to get on Test Track for years, but always broken.

Last trip I worked up the nerve (thanks to many encouraging DISers!) and did Splash Mountain. Wow! I was actually shaking in line, but it was good enough that I decided to do it again in November when we go back.

My targets for our upcoming trip are Test Track (as always), Tower of Terror (big maybe--I truly fear heights and have always had a bit of an elevator phobia), and Mission:Space. Nothing will keep me from trying M:S, altho I'm a bit concerned about nausea (I don't usually get motion sick, but I have a week's supply of Bonine ready).

Just remember, even the scariest ride is over pretty fast and you don't have to ever go again if you don't like it.

Good luck and have fun!

YEAH!!! I'm not the only chicken!!!

But I have to also have to admit that I will not go on Splash Mountain.. I always feel like I am going to be still be hanging in the air after the log drops out from under me.... maybe if there was a seatbelt or something.. I 've never liked log rides for that one reason. (Yes I have stood there and watched the logs go zooming down the flume and I have never actually seen that happen, but theres always a first time, and it will probably be me) I did go on Splash Mountain at Disneyland and again spent the whole time worried about the drop instead of looking at the scenery...

So for anyone who has done M/S.... is it worse than TOT and RNR? I know I will do M/S with only a little worry, but not abject terror ~~

Oh, hello! Fellow chicken here!

I prefer the term scardy-cat, though. And I managed to give birth to one professed scardy-cat and one thrill ride addict. Must not be a dominant genetic trait.

Well, I'll give you my scardy-cat view of WDW having just returned:

M:S--first time, loved it, had no ill effects. Second time, got quesy and had a headache, but still loved it. It didn't scare me. Scardy-cat DS loved this, it was his favorite ride.

Test Track--LOVE IT! Going fast is a thrill, doesn't scare me at all. Scardy-cat DS like it too, even though he was nervous in the queue.

R&RRC--Nope. No way. Can't get me on anything that inverts. The daredevil DD decided this was her favorite ride ever.

Space Mountain--promised my DH I would go on this with him on our honeymoon and haven't been on it since. No way, no how.

BTMRR--never tried it, never will.

Splash Mountain--Oh, we problably shouldn't go there. If you really want to know, read my Cautionary Splash Mountain Tale of a Scardy-Cat, scroll down near the bottom.

As for waiting around while the rest of the family rides, invest in some walkie-talkies and let them do their thing while you do yours. It might give you the chance to see something that the rest of the thrill-seekers in your family would consider "boring". This worked well for us this trip. I refuse to waste valuable vacation time crying and shaking in fear.

Oh my gosh, that was the funniest story I've read in a long time. No, I am not laughing at you but with you. OK, I lied. I am laughing at you! (Sorry, couldn't help myself.)

But just so you know, Splash Mountain scares me also. I do love the ride because of the characters, storyline, themeing, and especially the music but that drop scares me. It is the sight of the briar patch thorns. (Sorry folks but they don't look like any thorns I've ever seen in this lifetime. They look like big giant deer antlers to me.) I just know I'm going to be stabbed and they will find my body floating in the water while all those watching from the bridge try to decide if I'm an animatronics and part of the ride or if someone actually was gored by a herd of stampeding deer on Splash Mountain.

I still ride it everytime and still fear it might be my last day on earth when I ride it so I better make my peace with God. On other rides I am fearless. I love thrill rides and scream with delight when on R'nR, Thundermountain, Space Mountain, Mission: Space, and even ToT. I'm the first on the rollercoasters at other theme and amusements parks also. (Hulk is another one of my favorites at USF. I'm the one riding with my hands in the air.) But I just hate those big, honkin' deer antlers on Splash Mountain!

Now that my secret is out, how will I ever be able to show my face on the DisBoard again. (I'm soooo ashamed.)

Disnee Dad Says....................................Go on ToT. Put a penny in your hand and face the palm upwards. When the drop starts open your hand and watch the penny start to rise! You are dropping faster than gravity.

BTW, I hate heights, went on the Space Needle in Seattle, and I could feel it moving!!! But ToT is different. You can't look down, so height doesn't really matter.

It's the same way with the invertion at RnRC. What most people don't like is seeing the ground, the sky and the ground.
On RnRC you are blasted into darkness and don't see anything you can use to guess speed or height. You will be through it before your brain can figure it out. And it's over in about 90 seconds.

Splash is very tame except for the big drop which is over in like four seconds.

Hi! I'm Sharon and I am a chicken too.

I would love to try TOT and Space Mountain but I am so worried about the pre-ride anxiety that I am afraid to even get in line:( No one in my immediate family is particularly brave and DH suffers from severe "thrill ride avoidance." I am hoping that during our extended family trip next year I can work up the courage to try:(

That is ONE that I have tried. You know what? It wasn't bad at all! I am absolutely terrified of roller coasters, but this one was fun. I'm actually disappointed because it will be closed on my next trip.

michygoomy...yours is one of my FAVORITE stories I've EVER read here on the DIS!!!:teeth: It made me LOL again!!!:p

Melora...if ya don't want to go don't! I have a few feathers myself but it's for Alien Encounter, Tough to Be a Bug and Dinosaur! ECK! to all 3 of those!

A few years ago when Erich was about 6 he and I were in line for ToT.There was a young couple in front of us and the girl was a bit shakey about the ride.Erich told her it wasn't bad and she was impressed that he had been on it several times in his short life span! Finally Erich says to her " I'll sit next to you and hold you're hand if you'd like!" I'm standing there with my mouth agape!!! The girl agreed  and once the ride was over she thanked Erich profusely but wasn't going back anytime soon! LOL!

Hey Melora, from ANOTHER fellow chicken out there...YOU CAN DO IT! after all, you survived Tower of Terror! to tell you the truth, I've never been able to even get CLOSE to ToT! the only ride I've been able to do is Rockin' Roller Coaster. I thought for sure I was going to lose my cookies! I am going to Disneyworld in December and plan on giving MS a try...but first I am going to put on my motion sickness patch! after that....smoothe sailing!
YOU CAN DO IT! AND HAVE FUN!!!!! Helen

I've done every scary ride at WDW at least once. Having never riden a roller coaster that was at a local amusement park when I was a kid (it's gone now) and regretting it ever since, my motto is "What if it's more fun than it is scary."

Space Mtn. First trip way back in 1986. Never again!

Splash and BTMRR: Was really nervous the first times. Now I love Splash and can even hold my hands in the air during the final drop. BTMRR I'll only do on an empty stomach. What's with the drop where it looks like your head's going to be chopped off? Whether my eyes are open or closed, I always have about 5 seconds of dizziness.

R&RC: A one hit wonder. I really liked this ride but, unlike so many rides with the "if you have a bad back" warnings, this one really did bother my neck.

Test Track: First ride and last ride of every trip! :teeth: Love it, love it, love it!

Triceratops Spin: Nope, no way. Did it once and when that spinning started, I was toast. :( Spent 90% of the ride with my eyes closed.

ToT: It took me 4 years to get up enough courage to do this ride. This was when they just shot you up and down. It was another 2 years before I'd do it again. By then they changed the drop sequence and it was true love. :p

I went to MGM one night last May and did nothing but ride the ToT for about 4 hours. Heaven!

M/S: Haven't been on it yet. I'm not sure whether I will or won't. I'm pretty sure that curiosity will win out eventually but it many take years for that to happen. I don't like some of the reviews I'm reading about the nausea, dizziness, etc.

Although many of the rides I've listed have scared me silly, only Tric Spin made me ill and then only for a few minutes. The jury is still out on M/S for me.

Roberta
