Also, IMO, that is really crappy for that woman to use a medical excuse like that for healthy kids. Talk about breaking all kinds of rules!

A friend of mine is joining her DD and family during the Christmas holiday. I told her that the crowds would be quite large, to take that into consideration when making daily plans. She said her DD was under the impression that she could get that litle pass because Mom was in a wheelchair and bypass tha crowds. I did tell her that times have changed, and that it wouldbe in her best interest to research, she had told DD that she did not think the plan was a good one, and that the family was going to be set up for a miserable time.

Thank You.

The new rule is posted which according to Florida statute makes the old "lifetime" contract null and void.

Thats just the way it is.

Do what you want since you feel you have the right.

Peace: :hippie:
Have fun at Disney!

A notice of termination must specifically state the agreement that is being terminated. The new policy of "length of stay" does not invalidate previously purchased "lifetime" mugs. In order for the termination clause to applicable, Disney would need to issue a formal notice specifically stating that mugs previously sold under the "free refills for life" policy would no longer be honored. The only other way they could legally rid themselves of this commitment would be to cease operations - a la Elaine Powers.

Who cares.... really.

Personally, I could not be bothered with packing a mug to get free soda. I think it's petty and just not worth it.

But we all have our little "things" that we do don't we? Some get free soda, some shop lift, some cheat on their taxes, thier spouses, use expired coupons, wear something once then return it.....well you get the picture. The list goes on but the point is we are not perfect.

Soda costs WDW almost nothing. It should be free refills with the purchase of a soda anyway....the mug smugglers are just keeping it even :lmao:

You're actually comparing the 'fat naked guy from survivor' committing tax evasion to a person using a mug they were told they could re-fill for life?

And if you didn't care, as you state above, you wouldn't be classified as a Dis-board quoting, rulle following nerd.

I'm just here to fight for the little guy...too much power for one message board group in my opinion. And they say Opus Dei is dangerous... :)

I love WDW too...but there's just a little too much "oh my god, look at what that woman is doing" in these topics for me to believe that some of this "love" is genuine.

Down to the core of my issue: Why is it that these things bother the Dis-quoting, rule-following nerds so much? Has anyone ever had their vacation completely ruined...or even slightly ruined because of this?

Please share your insights...

(My apologies to the OP.
I do not mean to hijack your thread.)

Have no fear I will not turn you in.
If you feel satisfied that is without your right and feel comfortable about bringing your mug back for refills than have fun refilling it.

The honor system is no longer working.
It use to be that about 98% of the population would follow the rules.
It is not that way anymore. More people think the rules do not apply to them, only to others.
Or even worse that the rule followers are the ignorant ones and the rule breakers are the smart ones.

Now, Disney is cracking down on the rules.
Thus finger scans so tickets are not shared and wrist bands at SAB to keep pool hoppers out.

When Disney feels it time they will either completely get rid of drink stations, decide to discontinue refillable mugs or put barcodes on the mugs that the refill stations will recognize.
I for one feel it unfortunate that Disney has to take such measures to enforce their rules.

Oh my god...I didn't know things were so bad! Were you in on the secret loss prevention meetings at Disney? Is this how you received the stats that say rule following is way down from 98%?

You sound a bit too desparate to prove your point. Do you have proof that this is as huge a dilemma as you say?

I'm all for rule following, my dear. What I'm not for is rule inventing and Dis vigilantism. Why don't you let WDW Security worry about your troubles and you just enjoy your vacation? That's the part I don't get. Stop bashing others for feeling they have a right to take back their old mug when you have no proof they can't.

When Disney decides they share your views about how much of an epic problem this has become, you will see more stringent enforcement. For now, they make WAY more $ than they lose...so you ruin your own vacation thinking about the guy who's refilling his mug and being suspect of everyone in the pool area and whether or not they belong there.

What's the definition of "sad"?

Time to say goodbye to this thread. It isn't about resort planning anymore, it has turned into a debate and that belongs on the community board.

FYI:
The old refillable mugs are NO LONGER good for a lifetime.
I can understand if a guest bought a refillable back when the refillables were sold as a "lifetime'" mug they feel they have a right to use it.

My original All Star refillable was one of those. I thought what a great deal!

I still have mine but I never brought it back and I won't because I know Disney's policy has since changed.

It is just one of those things.
I aslo bought and paid a lot extra for a lifetime membership to a fitness club
called Elaine Powers back in 1976 . With that contract I would be able to rejoin any time I wanted for just $5 a month for a lifetime. What a bargin! Within two years they went out of business.

I still laugh about that one. Here I thought the contract was good for my lifetime but it was only good for the lifetime of the gym.

Such is life.

As longtime DIS member Bicker has stated before
"according to Florida statute, nothing is ever sold for "lifetime" but rather just until notification of termination."

That means (for those of you who do not understand law) the old mugs even thoses which were sold with FREE REFILLS FOR LIFE are no longer valid.

End of discussion.

Have fun at Disney! :wizard:

I am sorry but you are incorrect. If you purchased an old mug under the old policy it is still in fact good for lifetime refills. If you purchase a mug under the new policy it is good for the length of your stay. The new policy is specifically for the mug you are purchasing today. I am sorry for all those that did not purchase mugs under the lifetime refill policy, but for those who did good for you.

Same goes for a lot of things that change over time. The first month DVC was being sold, they sold with Lifetime passes to WDW. After the first month they sold with 10 years worth of admittance to the parks. Now they get $100 off of an AP. Do you think the people that buy today say hey since the policy today is only $100 off of an AP all those people who bought the first month with the lifetime passes are now "breaking the rules" by using their lifetime pass. NO that was the policy that was in effect at the time of purchase and yes the policy has now changed but that does not effect those that bought previsouly. Same goes for the mug. It is all about contractual obligation!

I have worked loss prevention before, but that is not the issue.

You are right!
I am Wrong!
Please forgive me.

Peace :hippie:

It seems like Terry S thinks you're wrong and I'm right too.

I like the bowing...nice touch. I'll get used to it, so don't spoil me.

Next topic for discussion? :smooth:

WHOA.....I have no idea what you are talking about! Are you OK?? :sad2:

If you need me to explain my post to you I will. In the "grand scheme of not playing by the rules" using an old mug is no big deal.
while I do not think it is OK to steal or cheat, we have all done something knowing it was the wrong thing to do. No one is perfect.

I don't know how you got Survivor and The DaVinci Code out of that?!? :confused3

No conspiricy theories here!

I never said I was a disboard quoting rule following nerd....I am NOT the OP just a poster.

To an earlier poster--you're right. I AM a Disney Nazi. I need a support group... :rotfl2:
I didn't mean for this thread to go off on the rights/wrongs of reusing mugs--I should've been clearer in my earlier post. I just meant that I am so obsessed with things I've read on the Dis that I am...shall we say...overeager to inform everyone I come in contact with of what I know ;) to be the rules and procedures of a proper Disney trip! ;) (Tongue firmly in cheek here!)
And, as my OP shows, I'm lacking in tact when it comes to expressing what I know!
I've enjoyed reading other Disney Nazi's faux pas--please keep 'em coming! :sunny:

Haha - the survivor and Da vinci references are just literary fluff. No one was accusing you of being a conspiracy theorist. You said tax evasion...I think Richard what ever his name is. You say there's a rule about not reusing old mugs, I say prove to me Jesus has a bloodline. Purely for style points. Apparently I wasn't clear enough? :confused3

My apologies. If you are not inventing rules for new Dis board members to follow or persecuting them for not knowing, then we have no worries!

Thank you for the expaination.
So when DIs members ask the refill mug question we should advise them if they bought their mug pre 2000 and it was posted as lifetime refills. we can tell them it is Ok but if they bought their mugs after that offer expired we can we are sorry but the rules say no.

Thanks that will be my advise from now on.

Muzigal if I post that advise will it be OK with you?

I would be happy if do not give adviCe when you don't know what the real answer is. Answering out of speculation and "feeling" would be incorrect when giving adviCe.

If you were to go to Disney and get a letter from a VP or a manager of a resort indicating that all individuals who bought their mug during the "4 life" campaign are SOL, then you would have proof to cast over all unknowing persons. You would then be right and I would be wrong. But seeing as you are only speculating and, to be honest, sound a little bitter and spurned about the whole gym closing down on you, I simply don't buy into your claims.

Come back when you have proof and adviSe as much as you like. Until then, all you can say is "I don't know".

Have a Disney Day! :thumbsup2

I do the same thing! Recently I discovered friends of mine make it a point to poolhop at all the deluxe pools yet only stay at the DoubleTee in DtD! Needless to say I have dropped them from my next cook out! LOL!

Seriously? Or are you just kidding? I must be tired this morning.

So, when she said that she carries a tote bag with their swim gear in it and then stow it in a locker at MK I had to ask why. Of course, it was to head over to the Polynesian for a quick dip!!! I was horrified. ;) I gave her the 'correct, current' policy. She didn't seem to much care and said they would take their chances.

Why don't you tell her how wonderful the pool is at Beach Club - how easy it is to get to from EPCOT, etc, etc. Then she could go to all of the trouble to go over there and be turned away for sure.
